Amara stared at the man, jaws about to drop, eyes wide open when the wind curled into her hair…soft like a child tugging at his mother's cloth.
It slid across her cheek like fingers trying to guide her…to turn her…to look.
She swallowed, still staring at him…at the hard calm in his eyes…still trying to comprehend what she had just heard.
Her mind tripped over the words a couple of times.
…Orange moon.
…Everyone gone.
…No one survived.**
Her breath came out hesitant yet adamant as she repeated her question.
"Tell me. Please. What do you mean… you were here?" she whispered this time, voice barely threading past her dry throat.
He didn't answer.
Not with words.
His jaw tightened… ever so slightly…
like pulling up a memory he had buried too deep for too long.
The wind tugged at her hair again.
Harder this time.
Almost like an impatient child.
Amara blinked, startled. Her chest tightened as something unseen brushed the back of her neck.
