Chapter 140: Resurrected Fossils
With Togekiss's help, the embryos of each fossil Pokémon took shape in the incubator. Ryan was overjoyed. Seventy-three fossils, excluding those that failed, had been revived for a total of fifty-eight—a success rate of nearly eighty percent!
This was already a staggering number, considering the researchers' calculations. A fifty percent success rate would be considered incredibly lucky.
"Cranidos, Shieldon, Tirtouga, Archen," Ryan murmured with delight, counting the fossil Pokémon in the incubator.
"Almost all of them," he nodded.
"Is this a fossil Pokémon? It's truly astonishing!" N said, hugging Zoroark. Looking at the Pokémon in the incubator, he felt a genuine sense of awe.
Perhaps Team Plasma should consider shifting its research focus to ancient Pokémon. They'd just discovered the fossil remains of an ancient Pokémon; they could consider resurrecting it as a final battle force. N couldn't help but think of the ancient Pokémon fossil remains that Team Plasma had previously discovered, which could be used for research.
Ryan didn't know that, because of him, Team Plasma had accelerated its research on Genesect, perhaps bringing it to life sooner. How would the mightiest hunter from 300 million years ago break into the world of Legendary Pokémon? That would have to wait for another time.
The embryos had already emerged; after another day of nurturing, they could be captured with Poké Balls.
Ryan and his group then left Devon Corporation. After all, there was a Pokémon Contest in Rustboro City tomorrow, and Ruby was going to participate, so she had to prepare her outfit.
Ryan had no talent for this, as evidenced by his black casual clothes. His motto was: Clothes, as long as they worked, were fine, and black was stain-resistant.
So, he was helpless. Lillie and Sapphire, however, were excited to help Ruby choose her contest outfit.
Watching the three excitedly leave and head to the department store to shop for clothes, N said, "Want to take a look around?"
"Then let's find a quiet place to talk," Ryan nodded.
The two walked in silence and came to a park in Rustboro City. They found a secluded corner and sat down on a bench by the roadside. Ryan said, "Okay, there shouldn't be anyone here. Let's talk."
N nodded and said, "Actually, I don't have any ill intentions. I just wanted to go out for a walk. After all, I'm really happy to know that there are people in the world who can understand the words of Pokémon and know their hearts."
Ryan sighed and said, "She told you."
"Well, it seems you know." N smiled slightly and said, "You don't have to blame her. She told me because she wanted me to be happy."
"I know, I don't blame her." Ryan said, "But to be honest, I don't agree with your ideals."
N shook his head and said, "But it agrees with my ideals. As long as Pokémon are locked in Poké Balls, they will never be perfect. I want to turn this world into a world of Pokémon because they are my friends."
"Then why did you give me the other one?" Ryan asked.
"I want to see things no one else can: the ideals of the Pokémon in their Poké Balls, the truth behind the existence of trainers, and a future where Pokémon can fully exist. Do you want to see that too?" N asked.
"I don't want to," Ryan said. "Your perspective is completely different from ours. But you're a good person. A kind person who always prioritizes the well-being of Pokémon."
"Thank you very much for your affirmation," N said. "Let me be clear: I'm the King of Team Plasma. I've been invited by Ghetsis to help him liberate Pokémon."
"He's lying to you," Ryan said.
"I know, but I can't stop," N said seriously. "I'm going to be a hero or a villain, so I need a villain or a hero to stop me. That's why I chose you. Because as long as you understand the language of Pokémon, no one will fail to sympathize with their plight. You're a gentle person, and entrusting it to you is the best choice."
"Ideals will eventually lose to reality," Ryan shook his head. "Even if ideals triumph, they become reality. Then is it still an ideal?"
N fell into deep thought. After a long while, N shook his head and said, "I don't know, but this is the answer I seek."
"I will stop you," Ryan said seriously. "If you lose, come to me."
"Thank you very much," N smiled.
The conversation ended there. They understood each other and could be considered friends, but in the end, there would be a battle, a battle that would define their lives.
"When will you return to Team Plasma?" Ryan asked.
"I'll walk with you to the end of Hoenn," N said. "As much as I want to stay, I'm sure the Shadow Triad are already on their way to find me. And the others will probably be worried and will likely be looking for me soon."
"Then let's say goodbye in Dewford Town," Ryan said. "Dewford Island is a great resort, so enjoy your last bit of leisure time."
"Yes. It really is my last bit of leisure time," N said, standing up.
"Let's go and see how Ruby and the others are doing with their shopping," Ryan said.
The two smiled at each other, their understanding finally reached. They then returned the same way, heading to the department store.
Ruby had already finished her shopping, but the two girls were still browsing, which would likely take some time.
By the time they were satisfied, they had finally left the store. Of course, it was already dark. They had settled down at the Pokémon Center, ready to cheer on Ruby for the Pokémon Contest tomorrow.
The next day, Ryan and his companions arrived at the venue of the Pokémon Contest in Rustboro City. However, Ryan couldn't cheer for Ruby today because he had received a call from President Stone the previous night. Apparently, a criminal organization had set their sights on Ryan's fossil Pokémon and was planning to steal them from Devon Corporation.
Watching Ruby and her companions enter the venue, Ryan tossed his Ultra Ball: "I want to see who has the audacity to try to steal my Pokémon. Prepare to face my wrath!"
Ryan arrived at Devon Corporation and, led by security, he entered the Fossil Resurrection Laboratory. President Stone was there, and he nodded, saying, "I'll leave the rest to you."
"I'm counting on you," said President Stone.
"Come out, Zeraora, Celebi." Ryan released Zeraora and Celebi.
Ryan had teleported Zeraora and Celebi from the breeding center as a precaution. Now that they were guarded by two Legendary Pokémon, if those guys tried to steal them, they'd be courting death.
"BOOM!" Ryan had just thought this when an explosion ripped through the laboratory walls.
"Tie them all up!" a gruff voice shouted.
Ryan's forehead throbbed with a vein: "Talk about timing!" Are there still such reckless idiots in the world?! This is simply bringing down the overall level of criminal organizations!
