Not everyone knew who Stephen Strange was.
"Who is he?"
Steve Rogers asked with some confusion.
Before Tony Stark could explain, Stephen Strange spoke first.
"Perhaps you don't know me, but I know the famous Captain America, Steve Rogers."
"As for me, I'm just a sorcerer. Although you may not have heard my name before, I believe you should have at least some understanding of me."
"For example, the war against the invasion from another dimension…"
Hearing this, Steve Rogers looked at Stephen Strange with surprise.
His eyes carried a trace of suspicion as he carefully examined the man in front of him.
Then, suddenly, his expression changed slightly.
He seemed to recognize him.
It was not only Steve Rogers.
The others also showed varying degrees of surprise.
They had all seen that video before.
"So you're the mage who stood beside Mr. Locke?"
Quicksilver asked.
Strange nodded.
Everyone's eyes widened slightly as they finally recognized him.
According to what Nolan Locke had said back then, this mage was the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth.
In other words, he was the strongest sorcerer on the planet.
And there was no one above him.
But why would such a powerful sorcerer appear at the Avengers base?
After all, they had never had any contact with him before.
As someone familiar with him, Tony Stark finally spoke.
"Why did you come to the Avengers base? Do you need the Avengers' help with something?"
Stephen Strange nodded.
"Indeed, there is a problem."
"However, I don't think this is a matter where I am asking for your help. This is something that no one can escape from."
"Because this concerns the survival of Earth. If we fail, then I believe the entire planet will be destroyed."
After hearing Strange's explanation, everyone took a sharp breath.
Natasha's expression became serious.
As an agent, she had always maintained a strong suspicion toward Stephen Strange.
"Earth is perfectly safe right now. I don't think there is anything threatening the existence of the entire planet."
Stephen Strange smiled slightly.
Then he said:
"I believe you still remember the alien invasion from before."
"Perhaps you still don't understand the true origins of those aliens."
"In reality, they belonged to Thanos' army."
"And Thanos' army is the direct military force of one of the greatest powers in the universe."
"The powerful mage among them was even one of the Black Order, one of Thanos' most trusted servants."
"Now that they have appeared on Earth, it means Earth has already become their target."
Stephen Strange's expression darkened slightly.
"As one of the strongest beings in the universe, no one can stop Thanos from obtaining what he wants."
"And once he achieves his final goal, the entire universe will suffer an unimaginable disaster."
Even Tony Stark felt that Strange's words sounded unbelievable.
Thanos?
A crisis affecting the entire universe?
Those two things sounded like something from a cheap science fiction novel.
How could they possibly happen in reality?
But the person saying it was Stephen Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth.
Because of that, Tony had no choice but to believe him.
"But how do you know all this?"
Tony Stark finally asked.
Stephen Strange lowered his gaze and touched the gemstone hanging on his chest.
"Because one of the things Thanos wants is currently in my possession."
As he spoke, Stephen Strange opened the Eye of Agamotto.
A beautiful glow spread out from within.
Then a dazzling gemstone appeared in front of everyone.
"This is the Eye of Agamotto."
"And inside it is the Time Stone."
"It is one of the six most mysterious stones in the universe, possessing unimaginable power."
"Each stone can grant the person who obtains it one of the most terrifying abilities in existence."
"And the ability of the Time Stone in my hand is the power to reverse time."
"Reverse time?"
Everyone was stunned.
Time had always been one of the greatest mysteries in science.
Although countless scientists believed time might be reversible, many others believed time could never truly be stopped.
Until now, there had been no real evidence proving that time could be manipulated.
Yet Stephen Strange was saying that a single gemstone in his possession could grant someone the ability to turn back time.
Was he joking?
But as they looked at the Time Stone, no one spoke against him.
Because they suddenly thought of something.
Bruce Banner spoke.
"The Space Stone and this Time Stone are the same type of thing, aren't they?"
The previous Chitauri invasion happened because the Tesseract was suddenly activated.
A portal appeared, allowing the Chitauri to enter Earth.
But the true cause of everything was Loki.
He had used his scepter to control the scientist researching the Tesseract.
Eventually, because of many different factors, the Tesseract was activated.
From what they learned from Thor, everyone already knew that the Tesseract was actually the Space Stone.
And now that the Time Stone had appeared on Earth, perhaps it was not that strange after all.
"Thanos' target is these stones?"
"Yes. The Chitauri invasion happened because of the same reason."
After hearing Strange's answer, everyone seemed to understand the situation.
"Looks like our problem is much bigger than we thought."
"But I want to know something."
"How strong is Thanos exactly?"
Tony Stark shrugged.
"You know, there is still someone like Nolan Locke on Earth."
"Until now, I don't know if there is anyone capable of stopping him."
Tony was not overly worried.
Although he had never left Earth, after witnessing the Chitauri's strength, he could roughly imagine the level of threats in the universe.
The aliens were not strong enough to make him afraid.
Perhaps if Nolan Locke appeared somewhere else in the universe, he might even become a cosmic-level ruler himself.
"I don't know."
"But I'm certain Nolan is not his opponent."
Stephen Strange gave his answer.
"Why are you so sure?"
Bruce Banner asked curiously.
"You know, I possess the ability to look into time."
"So I have seen the future."
"Countless possible futures."
Stephen Strange's expression became slightly heavy.
"No matter what future I saw, Earth never achieved victory."
"All I saw was death."
"Not only you, not only the Avengers, and not only myself."
"Even Nolan Locke was included."
"In the future I witnessed, Thanos arrived on Earth and killed everyone."
"He obtained all six Infinity Stones."
"And then, with a single snap of his fingers, half of all life in the universe disappeared."
"That was a disaster no one could escape."
"Whether someone survived or not was decided only by luck."
