Lia asked, confused etched on her face as we walk through a forest. That is right,we are currently walking deep in the forest.
"Lia! Refrain question big brother like that!"
Ria interjected, defending me from her question as I patted her head to made her stop, indicating its okay.
"We're finding a group of rogue angels who are on the loose. The association said this is where they were last seen few days ago."
I answered gently, also patting lia's head who hide her blushed. Typical lia, acting all tsundere on me.
"Also, if we ever encounter them, aliya won't engage with you guys unless the situation is dire."
"Eh? Why big brother?"
"Yeah? Is she not the strongest angel on our platoon? We definitely need her help!"
Woah? She's already accepting being on this platoon? That's definitely not normal. Usually, you have to do a huge amount of effort just to hear that sentence yet all I do is be patient and understanding to her.
"Its for both of you as well."
Unlocking their second modes needed experience unlike aliya. Aliya's second mode can be forced through what I did since like I said, she is compatible for it.
But the two of them, ria and lia, needed experience to unlock theirs. Why? Because the blood that is injected with their body stimulates more faster the more they fight.
That's the best way I could explain their situation.
"Arghh!! You don't make any sense commander! Just say it already!"
I giggle, patting her head to calm her down which worked.
Always work when they're mad.
"Then it won't be a suprise anymore right?"
"Huh?! It was a suprise in the first place?"
"Mhm."
I nodded, as she stared at me. Confuse as to what suprise I'm talking about. What's that got to do with the mission we accepted? Is what I think she's thinking, considering she's making that kind of face.
"Alright alright I won't tease you both. In short, I'm trying to speed up both of your second modes."
Scientist on this world couldn't find an explainable answer as to what kind of blood the invaders has. What they do know is the person injected with it can become stronger the more you fought.
Limits weren't recorded as angels, both archi and rogue get stronger and stronger. It got to the point of discovering modes. Though, the last mode, their third modes are still in theory as no one knows it. Even in the game, it didn't explain what kind it is nor how powerful the angels will be.
Thw only information I have is the fact that it is one thousand times stronger than their second form and how to activate it.
You just needed to max your angel's affectionate towards you.
Now I kind of see why they couldn't achieve third mode even with some well known commanders at the front line. That is because their minds limit their thinking that angels are just 'weapons' that the humanity has against these invaders.
They treated them as some kind of disposable items, hence their angels would not be able to extract affection towards their commanders.
Maybe that is also the reason why I could not transform my nagels into third mode back when I wasplaying this game. I am also the reason why I got the bad ending.
I secretly clenched my fist as realization dawn on me. The fact that everyone, my angels and the game world itself ended, is because of my limited thinking.
I was too focus on finishing thegame that I didn't notice what gaming is supposed to be in the first place.
I was so focus on having some kind of achievements I didn't deserve.
But, I won't let that happen anymore. I won't let any angels on my platoon to die nor betray me.
Ah. Right... There is one angel that comes in my mind...
Even so, if that same angel still betrayed me, I wouldn't hate her. Because, I already know who it is what her story is. I will not let her leave this platoon if it is the last thing I do.
"Commander!"
"Hm?"
"Quit spacing out will you!"
Lia said, pouting like a cute squirrel eating some nuts. Seriously, with this kind of cuteness, why would her former commander treated her like some kind of garbage? I don't get it.
"Sorry sorry."
"Hmph! Just focus ahead. We're already here."
I looked around, taking a note to our surroundings.
This is the last place they were scene... Strange... Why is it so—
"—clean?"
"Hm? What do you mean commander?"
Aliya, hearing what I muttered asked. She cutely tilted her head as she stared at me, confusing on ehat I meant.
"I mean, those group of rogues... They would have fought with the association right? Yet look around, there's no scar. No sign of any battle at all."
"But that's impossible! Rogue angels would immediately pounce on anyone who has close tide with the association! We know that because we were like that once as well in the past!"
Lia, ever the talkative between the two refused my deduction.
She's right. It is impossible for them to not engage with the association just like what she said.
In the game, the mission I took right now is automatically done. And the description is just the same as the association, find the missing rogues and bring them to the association.
"Unless they encounter someone they fear?"
Ria, who was silent till now, spoke. She too couldn't understand why this group of rogue angels would not engage. Rogue angels are generally hostile to the associations or those who are connected with it, to the point of attacking them without any hesitation.
Wait... That actually made sense...
"Right. I also realized that ria."
I nodded, agreeing with ria as I saw her smile. Seems like she's glad I was telling the truth, that I sided with her. I mean, people usually said they sided with her yet its all a lie. So it is natural for her to act this way.
Powerful enough to make rogue angels hesitate... Have enough authority to not make them want to engage...
I could think of five people who have that kind of quality but they are all at the frontline, fighting for humanity...
So then who?
Who made these rogue angels hesitate?
Then, realization hit me. I was too narrow minded, only focusing on the association side when there are also other forces like the atrocious knights or the invaders.
But where did the association got their information then? Is it someone working with them secretly?
No... That ain't right. No rogue would side on the association, I know that for sure... Yet, how do I explain this?
"Aliya, can you sense anything strange?"
Aliya, knowing her sensitive senses, can identify if something is wrong here. She close her eyes and focus, before opening them. She look at me and nodded.
"There is something weird commander."
"Really? Tell me."
I asked gently, as she continue.
"There is this strange energy all over us right now. Floating and twisting at the same time."
My eyes widden, I finally understood why.
"Aliya, get into second mode and burn that energy your sensing."
"Eh/huh?"
Both ria and lia squeal in suprise as they immediately move away from her and hide behind me. Despite them being angels, they still have a mind of a innocent child. Plus, they already know what kind of power she holds behind her second mode.
"Understood."
She nodded before transforming. The same futuristic armor and blue wings greeted us.
"[White Ash]."
She muttered as fire errupted from her hands. The heat behind it is so powerful that made us three step back. Then, she unleashed it on a random location.
What we witness it the energy appearing in front of us as it slowly burned. Then, a shocking view came.
Bodies everywhere, not angels but people from the associations called [Hunters]. These guys are responsible for accepting unreasonable requests and stuff like these.
They are strong, often having two to three angels with them on their side. Usually, one of them even has a second form. So naturally the sight we are seeing is shocking.
I knew it... There is one thing I learn mid way through the game. Energy like what aliya describe earlier, is a work of a rogue angel. The same angel I would need to recruit in order to fight against the atrocious knights.
But, I did not know she already unlocked her second mode already... Last time I remember, i needed her to help it awaken her mode...
Did something happened for her to go as far as to awaken her second mode?
She too, just like aliya, is compatible for force awakening.
As if seeing the answer myself, I noticed some weird stuff that definitely did not belong to the association.
I walk over it, my three angels follow suit as I stared at a device. I picked it up and examined them.
This is...
"Invaders?"
Ria blurted out.
"Huh? Why would there be invaders here?"
She's right, why would invaders here when its not even at the middle of the plot yet. Unless its one of those kinds.
The frontline of humanity, known as 'hell', can occasionally let through small groups of invaders in the beginning. Then, midway, the invaders that got through keep getting larger and larger.
So a group of stray invaders huh?
Now I understand everything. I know understand why there's no sign of any battle here.
[Ziyan]. The most troublesome rogue angels I would ever encounter is I would say so. Her second ability, [Illusion], is pretty hard to deal with.
Unless you know her or understand her second mode, you will never ever disconcern it entirely.
The twisting energy that aliya describe earlier when I tried to let her sense our surroundings is one of the sign she used her abilities.
Since her second mode can create realistic illusions, the only way you can destroy it or discover everything is an illusion, is to identify like what aliya did. If not, then you will never find the truth behind those illusion she made.
"Commander... Do you know what's this all about?"
Lia, unable to stay quiet anymore, asked. She, like the other two angels with me, couldn't comprehend what is going on nor understand.
"Ziyan, a rogue angels like you. Her second mode can create hyper realistic illusions that can make you question if everything is real. It seems lik she's in a group."
"Eh? Second mode? You're telling us we both have to deal with her?!"
Lia panicked, realization dawn on her as she remember my statement earlier.
I nodded.
"Don't worry, even if she has a second mode, it is actually not suitable for combat."
"Its not that we are worried about commander! It's the illusion themselves! What if she showed us ten aliya on her second form?! Are you telling us to fight it?! That's practically suicide!"
Her concern is understable, since they saw how capable aliya's second form is. If ziyan somehow create ten aliya, then even these two won't be able to hold out unless they have their second forms.
"Calm down lia. Ziyan won't be able to create aliya on her illusion."
"How can you be so sure commander?! And why are you talking a rogue like she's your friend or what?! Are you familiar with her too?!"
"Well, in a way yes."
Lia then looked at ria, who nodded. Confirming I do have some connections with this illusionist angel but at the same time it is complicated.
"Anyway, you don't have to worry. At this time, she probably forced her second mode to be unlocked and isn't familiar with it yet. So this is a perfect time to unlock both of your second modes."
Angel's second modes are complicated. You need enough experience to stimulate the blood within them in order to activate it. Forcing it to stimulate fast needed a more thoroughly actions, hence why they both need to fight ziyan, who already unlocked her second mode.
But something is strange. In the game plot, she never really unlock her second form up until we met her. Yet here she is, already using it despite not having to know what to do.
Well, let's think about that later. What we need to focus on is this two in front of me.
I looked at ria and lia, who still has that panicked and scared expression from earlier. It is normal. After all it is general knowledge to never ever engaged an angel with her second form unlocked while yours are not. Its a suicide situation, which both of them did not want too.
"Urgh!! Fine! But I better get good compensation after!"
I smiled and patted both of their heads, nodding in agreement to lia's statement.
"Don't worry, I'll upgrade both of yours weapons if you two unlocked your second forms."
"Yes, big brother."
"Your on!"

After more investigating, we left the scene and reported them. The first step of this mission is to identify the situation first, before engaging to the group of rogues.
But it seems like ziyan is the only left alive on this group, considering she needed to forcefully awaken her second form.
I wish I could recruit her right now but it's unfortunate. She still has something to do right abou this time so she won't definitely accept my invitation.
Plus, I gotta focus on awaken lia and ria's second form then solidify it to at least manageable. After all, I made three forces my enemy right from the start.
The invaders, which is the natural enemy of the humanity.
The [Atrocious Knights], by taking both lia and ria with me.
And some commanders within the double a association itself, which is very annoying to say the least.
We are currently heading back to the forest after we reported everything. Since scouting is done, we are now in the next step.
Step two, engage with the said enemy if the situation is doable. Unless its an emergency or something unexpected happens midway, the usual response to all of the missions that the association give is to engage.
That's why they earn the title of being the most ruthless and efficient at the same time. Once you have information, you immediately head out to engage.
Typical double a association.
"Commander, I sensed something."
"Hm?"
I stopped, loooking at aliya as she whispered something to me.
"I see. Lia, ria, prepare for battle."
""Huh/eh?""
Both were confuse as to why but prepared their weapons nonetheless. Even if they didn't know or confused, they will still follow his order naturally.
"Three invaders to the south, four to the west."
Aliya reported as she open her eyes. The one she senses earlier is none other than invaders themselves.
Why is the backline already infested with invaders? Maybe another group of stray that got lucky?
I question myself, thinking how these invaders got through from the frontlines when the line up of humanity right now is the strongest.
It stay like this up until five years later, when the rogue angels agreed to team up and fight humanity. Which broke the long stalemate at the frontlines, with the addition of rogue angels on the invader sides.
Even the atrocious knights join in for a few months before backing out. They realized this is not the path they want to took, as invaders are their enemies as well.
They realized the risk once the humanity is gone, they are next.
"Lia, south. Ria, take the west. Try to hit and run as much as possible. Its never too late to be cautious after all."
Even if these invaders are stray that got lucky, I will never let my guard down no matter what. Because, I learn that in the hard way.
That never ever underestimate anything that is in front of you.
"On it!"
"Mhm!"
Both respond as they take their positions via my instructions. Lia took the south, positioning herself on top of a tree. Hiding from the view as she transformed her weapon into a futuristic looking sniper rifle.
Ria on the other hand is more bold. She pull out her signature weapon, her war axe. She positioned herself behind the tree, ready to ambush them.
While me and aliya step back. Not too far away, not too near as well. Just the perfect distance so we could response if necessary.
"Aliya, be ready too."
"Yes, commander."
She then transformed to her second mode and positioned herself behind me. Ready to engage at any moment.
...
*Bang*
Bullet passes through one of the invaders. It jerk around before falling to the ground, dead in an instant.
Noticing their dead comrade, they immediately scattered. Hiding behind trees, using it as cover. Yet it was useless.
*Bang*
The bullet passes through the tree itself before embedded into on of the invaders' forehead, making their hiding strategy useless.
The last invader, realizing it's useless to hide, tried to run away. Yet, this prove useless for lia, who was hiding on top of a tree.
*Bang*
The last one dropped on the ground, dead. It couldn't get away, nor could hide away. That is because, in front of lia, there is nothing she couldn't hit.
Heh.
I smirked, watching the entire time. From how lia shoot the firs shot, to thelast one running away.
It's useless. In terms of accuracy, no one can beat her. It doesn't matter if you're hiding or running, as long as she makes you her target, it's all over for you.
I sighed.
I even remembered being shot by her from like, 1000 meters. Head shot too. That's why I learn, in order to recruit her, you just have to be bold enough to confront her face to face. Or else, this will happen to you.

"Garhkk!!—"
One invader groaned as it step back, terrified of what's in front of her.
Ria, holding her war axe while standing on three bodies that she killed earlier.
Unlike lia, ria likes to be in front. Swinging her war axe like some kind of battle maniac. Did not expect that right? After all, this is her true nature.
The last invader, who barely dodge ria's strike, fell to the ground.
Ria, earning her rank as the second most ruthless angels I have in my platoon, slashed the last invader on its neck. Beheading it before catching the head.
She smiled, the crazy smile you usually see on joker as she crushed the head with her bare hands. That's right, she crushed that poor invader's head despite being already dead.
Yup. She really do deserve her second place of being ruthless and merciless amongst my angels in my platoon.
When I first encounter her, she instantly pounce on me.
I was only able to recruit after trying every method I could think of.
"Seems like they're done. Let's go aliya."
"Yes commander."
Ever the attendant, she follow silently.
'commander truly have an exceptional talent when it comes to recruiting. Even if they are ex-rogues, I never expected they have this much strength even without there second mode unlocked. Truly amazing, commander~'

"How did I do big brother?"
"Hmph! You think I expect praises from you?"
Ria asked, full of expectations and excitement after brutally killing the four invaders that is assigned to her.
Lia on the other hand crossed her arms and pout. Despite what she said, you could practically feel she wants it as well. Typical her.
I smiled as I stared at them waiting for my praises.
"Yes. Yes. You both did good, amazing even."
As I put my hands on their heads, there eyes lit up in happiness as they respond to their own unique way.
"Yay!"
Ria giggled, happy she detected what I said is all true.
"H-hmph! I didn't need it in the pfirst place!"
While lia look away, still pouting and trying so hrd to not be pleased.

After dealing with the group of stray invaders, we continue on our journey to find where ziyan is.
Even though I won't recruit her yet, I needed some evidence in order to complete this missions. So we have no choice but to hopefully ask some things from her and hand it on the double a.
Plus, this will boost lia and ria anyway. Two bird with one stone.
"Are you sure we are heading the right way big brother?"
Ria, who's currently riding on top of my head while we walk asked. She find the path we're heading strange.
Well, its understandable. If you look at our surroundings, there's nothing but withered plants and trees. The soil makes it even worse as it is as black as a charcoal or something.
"Don't worry, we're heading at the right way."
From what I remember, ziyan mention she hide herself her while she was being hunted. And since this is just the beginning of the game, we might be able to encounter her here.
"Hm? What's wrong aliya?"
I noticed aliya stopping before forcefully grabbing my hand and pulled me out of the way. After all, from where I last stood was currently being disintegrated.
"Acid?"
Ria, who mount off on me immediately place her self in front of me while lia pulled out her signature sniper rifle and aim from the direction where the acid came from.
*Bang*
"How dare you!... How dare you almost kill my commander!..."
*Bang*
She fired another shot, forcing the enemy to reveal themself.
"Tch... Another batch annoying hunters..."
It was ziyan. The rogue angel we were trying to locate. Blood dripping, clutching her injured right shoulder. It seems like lia shot her right shoulder perfectly despite not having a clear view where she is.
"I hate you!... I hate you!... I hate you!... I haye you!... I hate you!!!"
Lia, muttered in repeat aim her sniper rifle at ziyan's head. Intending to shot her through her forehead but I signal her to stop.
This is one of the few things I'm afraid of. Lia having her 'episodes'.
You see, in order to understand this, lia have an uncurable mental illness.
It's that, whoever she considered the most precious in her life and that most precious gor hurt, she will turn into an unstoppable monster. She will kill who is responsible for it no matter what.
From game, she almost killed yuki when she already surrender because she slightly harmed me in a playful way. It was supposed to be a joke but lia unexpectedly took it too serious and tried to kill her.
Lia, seeing me signaling her to calm down and put her weapon away, stopped. But the hatred in her eyes didn't.
"What do you want, hunter..."
Ah... Right... She must have think I am a hunter.
"First of all, please calm down. I'm here to talk, not to fight. Second, I am not a hunter but a commander."
"Co... Mmander?..."
Her eyes changed in an instant. The hatred she's feeling, the rage she felt from all those years sprouted.
"Why would I talk to someone who never let me in the first place?!"
The ground we are in exploded. But luckily, aliya grabbed me and flew above. Dodging the massive explosion.
Ria and lia follow suit as they position themselves in front of me.
"That was close..."
I muttered, sweat pour down on my back as I realized I almost died if not for aliya.
"I should really plan meeting them and not blindly follow what I know."
Reaizing my mistakes, from now on, I will plan everything perfectly before meeting all of these angels. Special rogues.
"[All World]!!"
We heardziyan shouted, as the world darkened. No, we were enveloped by a huge sphere.
Shit... Did she already learn her ultimate move?! This is bad!...
[All world], ziyan's most strongest move in her second mode. To summarise what it can do, she summoned a huge sphere around her and her enemy and enveloped them inside it.
There, she can do anything she wants. Illusion or not, aslong as your inside the sphere, you're screwed nonetheless.
"Ria, lia, fight with everything you've got. That's an order."
""Yes big brother/hmph! Of course!""
The two flew towards ziyan and engaged her.
Now, you might say I'm sending them to their deaths. With ziyan using her ultimate move while being on second mode while lia and ria only at their based/first mode, its unfair right?
Wrong. Ria and lia is enough to deal with her. Not because they are strong or they have some kind of advantage against her.
Its because of their [Synergy].
[Synergy], a type of combat inside the game. Basically, if you and your partner have great chemistry, or generally close to each other, you will receive a boost. Depends on what you are focus on, for example lia. She's a marksman angel who uses long range weapons. If she synergize with ria, her marksmanship will have a massive boost that can turn things around.
Same goes for ria who uses short to mid range weapons. Her capabilities will took a massive boost from their synergy.
Though it might not be enough to take ziyan right away, they still have a chance to defeat her if they stall enough time.
Plus, I promise I'm not letting aliya fight so they will receive the needed experience in order to unlocked their second form.
I know it's heartless and stupid of me to let them fight someone who has a second form, but this much pursuing can improve them.
I ordered aliya to take me a little bit far away so I won't be a collateral in their fight.
She nodded before flying a little bit far where the twins and ziyan is fighting. I grabbed a conveniently telescope from my storage, as I watched with full focus. Unless they really about to die, I won't let aliya interfere.

To where the three are, they are currently standing at one another.
"Hey. Why did that bastard sent you two instead of the other angel with him?"
"Ha?! You think we can't beat your ass?!"
"Lia, language."
Ziyan, eyeing the two, laugh all of a sudden. Its like lia made a joke out of nowhere.
"Are you kidding? You two, who don't even have your second modes?—"
Before she could say any further, a bullet partially grazed her left cheek. A little bit of blood came out right after, a sign she was injured.
"The next one won't miss."
Lia said, already aiming where her head is. Ready to pull the trigger at any moment while having that serious expression on her face.
Ria on the other hand looks completely relax.
'what's wrong with these two?... They're facing someone who has a second mode yet they look like they didn't care?'
Well, its not like ria and lia didn't care. Its just that, they are used to deal with angels who has second mode.
For example is their former group, the atrocious knights. Almost all of rogue angels there already unlocked their second modes or about to unlock it.
That's why, facing someone like her, is no different from facing an average atrocious knight members.
But, this is ziyan we are talking about. As long as you are in her sphere, you are practically a cornered rat. She can manipulate, create, or destroy anything as she wills it.
"Ria."
"On it."
Ria rushes towards ziyan, who were caught off guard by their eagerness to fight and finish this.
As she prepare to engage with the coming ria, she wasn't able to noticed lia's bullet right behind ria.
Not until she sensed it through her experience of dealing with sharpshooter type angels.
She was able to dodge the incoming bullet from lia before blocking ria's incoming strike right after.
Then, she striked back. Sword made out of ice appeared on her hand and swiftly struck ria on her right side. But ria notice this and was able to block it on time, or else, she might have been cut in half.
"Tch..."
It seems like she didn't expect she has a good battle instinct. With her young look, people often underestimate her. Thinking she's a fresh angel, hence why ziyan is suprised.
She goes for a low kick but parried it with her left arm, then she goes for a punch which made ziyan caught off guard again.
It's useless to predict ria's close combat as she's the most unpredictable to fight with up close. She uses her legs then arms, then her head. She pretty much utilize every part of her body until she can't. Her movements were erratic, going for a side to side then straight up launching herself towards the enemy.
Even yuki, the strongest angel in terms of close combat wouldn't be careless against her.
"Enough!"
A huge shockwave brought ria and lia to be sent backwards, but the twin catch their selves in time.
Two circular canons slowly formed behind ziyan as she aim her fingers at the twin who is still recovering from the shockwave earlier.
They sensed something was wrong and look at ziyan. The two circular canons were finally charged before being fired by ziyan without hesitation.
The anger she has towards commanders and their angels is so deep to the point she wanted them to disintegrated.
The sky blue beam tear through the air as it head towards the twin.
"Lia. I can sense that thing will still hit us even if we dodge."
"No choice then..."
To contest with the beam that ziyan threw, she needed a similar fire power. So, in order to do that, she need to use one of her cards when she's fighting with angels who is in their second modes.
"[X-10]."
She muttered, as her sniper rifle began to glow in red lights. The energy around it slowly becoming unstable as if it was messing with the space itself.
This is one of her trump cards, [X-10].
As the energy stabilise on her sniper rifle, she fired the shot.
A huge bullet came out of the muzzle and head towards the incoming beam while getting larger and larger as it get closer.
After few seconds, the two collided creating a massive explosion before being envelope by huge amount of smoke.
Lightning crackles inside the smoke as it creates an unexpected chemical reaction when the two attacks collided.
Seeing this, I realized how powerful the twins are with their synergy.
Well, to be fair, in terms of combat capabilities, ziyan is at the mid rank while the twins are the upper mid rank.
That's because ziyan is supposed to be a support character that helps the protagonist inside the game. But since this is the reality I am in now, that means it could be changed.
I said this because ziyan appeared behind the two caughting them off guard.
She grabbed lia on the throat while kicking ria on the stomach, sending her far back.
"Knowing that attack, it seems like you have a nice weapon. I guess that bastard favours you huh?"
Lia, being choked by ziyan smirked.
"Dumbass... My commander treated us all equally... He never have favourites amongst us..."
In lia's perspective, I treated the three of them equally. When one is sad, I consulted her. When one is worried, I made sure it vanishes. If someone is angry, I patiently make them calm down.
From her view, I treated them as 'humans' not 'weapons', which made ziyan disgust, having that disdain expression on her face.
"Seems like he brainwashed all of you."
"Heh... You might never know this, but both of us were onced rogue angels..."
Her eyes widden a little, not sure if what she heard was right.
"What did you say?"
"Me and the other angel your fighting, we were once a rogue angels."
Her body started to convulse as she looked down. Creating enough time for ria to swoop in and grabbed lia to safety.
They expect for her to fight back but she just stand there, still looking at the ground. Though her body stopped convulsing, you could still feel the shock around her, not believing what she just heard.
In order for you to understand, a commander who recruits rogue angels have never been heard before. Why? Well, that is because every commanders will immediately order their execution rather than recruitment.
No one in the history have ever done what I did which is enough for her to caught off guard.
"You're lying..."
"The [Twin Casters], familiar with that name?"
She finally realized why she felt familiar when she was fighting them. The puzzle has been solve, the familiarity she felt was not because the three of them are close, but because she widely familiar how the twin fight because they were once fought each other unknowingly.
"There's... No way..."
So what she was saying is true? Someone really recruited them? Not just someone, its a commander no less. That is practically impossible to happen unless its an illusion.
"Illusion... It's all an illusion!!!"
