As Lin finished speaking.
The wagtail yokai hurriedly replied:
"There shouldn't be any more nearby."
"There used to be a yokai in that place called Rikugi-en, but it was eaten by a terrifying black monster a few days ago."
"If we both hadn't flown away so fast, we would have been eaten too."
"That's why we decided to leave this place quickly."
"Yes, yes."
The white-eye yokai nodded in agreement.
"..."
Lin fell into thought upon hearing this.
He then used his psychic power to grab the two bird yokai and leave the park, finding an evil spirit in an alley a hundred meters away.
"The black monster you're talking about, is it this?"
Lin made them look at the evil spirit.
"Yes, yes, that's it!"
The two little bird yokai were startled the moment they saw the evil spirit.
The evil spirit looked at Lin and the two bird yokai, and when it spotted the yokai, a greedy malice erupted from its body.
It charged straight over.
It seemed to want to devour the two bird yokai.
"Help, save the birds!"
Seeing the evil spirit rushing toward them, the little bird yokai were terrified.
"Both of you, quiet down,"
Lin said softly.
He looked at the evil spirit, his eyes narrowing slightly.
With a bang, the evil spirit exploded, dissipating into wisps of black smoke.
"!!!"
Witnessing this, the two bird yokai instantly fell silent, trembling with fear.
What a terrifying human!
The black monster was so frightening,
yet it exploded from just a single glance.
In their minds, Lin was now the most terrifying thing in the world.
After annihilating the evil spirit, Lin retracted his psychic power.
Although the restraint was lifted, the two little bird yokai didn't dare fly away.
They obediently stayed put,
afraid that Lin would make them explode with a glance.
Looking at the two trembling little bird yokai, Lin smiled.
"Alright, you can go now."
"Really?"
Hearing that they were allowed to leave, the two little bird yokai could hardly believe it.
Lin narrowed his eyes slightly, the smile on his face gradually vanishing.
"Since you don't want to go, you can just end up in my stomach."
"We're going, we're going!"
Terror filled the eyes of the two little bird yokai as they frantically flapped their wings, soaring high into the sky and flying toward Nagano Prefecture.
Tokyo was too scary for birds.
Not only were there terrifying black monsters,
but there were also humans more terrifying than the monsters.
...
Watching the two little bird yokai fly away, a slight smile touched Lin's lips.
The concealment barrier was still active around him.
Enveloped by the Silver Sanctuary, a faint silver-white light surrounded him as he flew into the air toward his home in Nerima Ward.
His speed was neither fast nor slow.
Along the way, he mused:
"Evil spirits eating yokai... that's a new discovery."
"No wonder there are so few yokai here in Tokyo—no, it must be the entire Kanto region. It's almost all evil spirits."
"Yamanashi Prefecture was full of yokai, and according to the little bird yokai, Nagano Prefecture should be the same."
"So what about other places?"
Thinking this, Lin paused mid-air.
He gently closed his eyes, and his spiritual perception spread out across all of Japan.
It quickly enveloped the entire country.
He wasn't sensing fine details, just the distinct differences between regions.
The feedback emerged in his mind.
The Kanto region's prefectures—Gunma, Tochigi, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tokyo, Chiba, and Kanagawa—were almost entirely filled with evil spirits.
The Chubu region—Nagano, Gifu, Niigata, Shizuoka, Yamanashi, Aichi, Fukui, Ishikawa, and Toyama—was dominated by yokai.
The Kinki region—Kyoto, Shiga, Hyogo, Osaka, Mie, Nara, and Wakayama—was tentatively categorized as 'unknown'.
It was slightly strange there.
Although they felt like yokai, they also possessed some traits of evil spirits.
Specifically, 'negative emotions'.
Continuing west, across regions like Shikoku, all the way to Kyushu.
Fukuoka, Oita, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, Saga, Nagasaki, and Kumamoto were once again occupied by yokai.
Looking toward the northeast of Japan.
It was a state of coexistence, but the numbers of all three types were extremely low.
The same was true for Hokkaido.
This was the general situation Lin grasped through his spiritual perception.
It was as if Japan in this crossover world had been divided into different zones by an invisible force of rules.
The differences varied in degree.
The Kanto region was rife with evil spirits, while the Chubu and Kyushu regions were rife with yokai.
The Kinki region was something else entirely.
And regions like Shikoku, Chugoku, Tohoku, and Hokkaido had all three types of supernatural beings, just in very small numbers.
Retracting his spiritual perception, he opened his eyes.
Lin's eyes flickered as he thought to himself:
"The evil spirits belong to the Mieruko-chan worldview. The yokai and that other type clearly belong to their own respective worldviews as well."
"I can explore that later."
"And I'm a little interested in that so-called yokai deity."
Having made up his mind,
Lin stopped overthinking it, cleared his mind, and continued flying toward his home, maintaining an altitude of about ten meters.
His speed was slightly faster than a race walker.
He observed his surroundings along the way.
Whenever he saw an evil spirit, he would instantly kill it, harvesting a negligible amount of energy.
The reason he didn't teleport back was so he wouldn't miss out on any pleasant surprises.
Like the two little bird yokai.
Although with his power, he could bring everything under his control with his spiritual perception if he wanted to.
But that would take away the fun.
It's like going to see a movie, only to have someone spoil the whole thing for you.
The experience would be gone.
A little over ten minutes later.
Nothing eventful happened along the way.
Other than annihilating a few evil spirits, Lin made no new discoveries.
He landed in the courtyard
and dispelled the barrier around him.
Akashiya Moka, Shuzen Akua, Shuzen Kokoa, and Kanna were in the living room, chatting and watching a TV show.
It was mainly Kanna who was watching.
The others were chatting.
Seeing Lin appear in the courtyard, Akashiya Moka and the others came over to the sliding glass door to greet him:
"Xiao Bai (Lin, Kobayashi), welcome back."
It was Kanna who called him Kobayashi,
clearly copying Tohru.
"I'm home."
Lin smiled and nodded.
He took off his shoes, walked into the living room, placed his schoolbag on the coffee table, and patted Kanna's head with a smile.
"How are you feeling today, Kanna?"
"Very happy, because all the big sisters were very nice to me."
Kanna tilted her head up slightly to look at Lin, enjoying his head pats.
Although she was actually the second oldest here, she didn't mind calling Akashiya Moka and the others 'big sister'.
After all, she was still a child.
Among dragons, she was about the equivalent of an eight or nine-year-old human girl.
"Xiao Bai (Kobayashi)..."
Just then, Akasha and Tohru came out of the kitchen, looking at Lin with charming smiles.
"Welcome back."
"I'm home."
Lin smiled back at them and then asked curiously:
"You were both in the kitchen. Are you making dinner together today?"
"Mhm."
Tohru nodded with a smile.
Akasha smiled faintly and said, "Tohru is still the head chef. I'm just helping her prepare the ingredients."
After chatting for a bit, Akasha and Tohru returned to the kitchen.
Lin took a bunch of seedless grapes from the Mirage Realm out of the fridge, along with some crisp persimmons, cherries, and strawberries.
The environment of the Mirage Realm was generated according to his will, so various fruits grew in different areas.
Anything that existed in the real world could be found in the Mirage Realm.
"Kanna, say ahh."
Picking up a large strawberry, Lin began to feed Kanna.
Kanna opened her mouth and took it in with a big bite.
