Chapter 27 - Chapter 28 Presents

ROMEO'S POV

As I recalled the events of that fateful evening, I couldn't help but think that Cassandra's frustration was palpable as she exclaimed, "I had insisted that we should have hired a professional event planner for this occasion."

It was her birthday, and Lucille, Xander, and I had taken it upon ourselves to organize a party, but things were rapidly spiraling out of control.

Lucille burst into the room, her face flushed with exertion as she dabbed her perspiring forehead with a crumbled tissue.

"I've managed to secure the cake and food," she announced, slightly breathless, her voice betraying a hint of relief.

I chimed in, attempting to inject some levity into the atmosphere, "The drinks are chilling, and the playlist is ready; it's time to commence the celebration." Xander erupted into laughter, his amusement infectious.

Cassandra, however, was undeterred, her excitement evident as she urged, "My father's yacht is waiting, and I've arranged for a team to decorate it; let us proceed, everyone."

We made our way to the yacht, and upon arrival, we found everything impeccably arranged, the party officially underway.

Cassandra called out, her voice carrying across the deck, "Gather around, everyone! My friends have arrived," beckoning us over with a sweep of her arm.

As we strolled over, she introduced us to her friends with a flourish, "This is Dean, Beckham, Jess, and Erica," gesturing elegantly to each of them in turn.

"And this is Lucille, Xander, and Romeo," she added, completing the introductions.

We exchanged pleasantries, and I recalled thinking that it was nice to finally meet her friends.

The evening wore on, and before we knew it, it was time to cut the cake.

Lucille retrieved the cake, and after Cassandra whispered her wishes, we sang her a birthday song, our voices blending in harmony as we cut the cake.

The festivities continued, with dancing and eating, until we were all exhausted. It was then that we sat down to present gifts to the birthday girl.

The first gift presented was from Jess, who handed Cassandra a beautifully wrapped box, saying, "Happy birthday, darling."

I couldn't help but wonder why he had used such an affectionate term, but Cassandra seemed delighted, exclaiming, "Oh! Thank you so much, Jess. I have always wanted one of these," as she hugged him warmly.

For some unknown reason, I glanced at Xander, and his expression was a picture of distress, his eyes clouding with upset.

He attempted to conceal his anger, saying, "Okay, okay, let us continue," but I had already noticed the fleeting look of discomfort.

The gift, as it turned out, was a camera, and Cassandra's eyes sparkled with joy as she unwrapped it.

She had always loved taking pictures, and I could understand her delight.

The gifts kept coming, with Iris presenting her with a stunning diamond chain.

Dean presented her with an exquisite Birkin bag, a coveted limited‑edition treasure she had heard whispered about in fashionable circles.

Beckham and Erica beseeched her to select any country of her desire, promising to finance the entire venture

Lucille and I promised to take her on a shopping spree to any boutique she desired the following day.

As the evening drew to a close, Cassandra turned to Xander, her eyes filled with a mix of anxiety and foreboding, and asked, "Do you have anything for me?"

Xander hesitated, a hushed silence falling over the gathering, before replying, "No, I forgot."

Cassandra's face crumbled, her cheeks dampened by tears as she asked, "Do not joke with me; you know how much I love presents. Why did you forget?"

Xander's apology was barely audible as he declared, "I am sorry," before departing, his footsteps echoing away, leaving us all in an uncomfortable silence.
