Chapter 205 - Plot Summary

"Tell me, what exactly are you doing here?" After a desperate struggle, or so they thought, the entire Fox Squadron was annihilated. All twelve helicopters were smashed to pieces like toys by a suddenly appearing super-sized monkey.

Captain Packard, the sole survivor, now sat on a rock, facing Dr. Randa, who had lured them to the island. He held a firearm and demanded answers.

Before their arrival, Dr. Randa had told them that their mission was a topographical survey. The island was perpetually shrouded in a ring of storms, isolated from the world. No external signals could penetrate, so they needed a team of skilled pilots to bring in the researchers for the survey.

Initially, Captain Packard had assumed the mission was just another instance of those politicians in Washington wanting to expand the nation's territory. After all, America's thirst for territorial expansion was endless. Otherwise, he wouldn't have led his team in Vietnam for so many years.

This was Fox Squadron's final mission; after this, they could all go home. But Captain Packard hadn't expected that his men, who had survived over a decade of combat in Vietnam with relatively few casualties, would be decimated on this unknown island by a giant ape.

"For years, no one believed me. Everyone thought I was delusional!" Dr. Randa began to recount his experiences at length. As a young man, he was the only survivor of a cruise ship. The official report stated the ship had sunk due to an explosion, as accidental damage was common during World War II.

However, Dr. Randa, the only witness, knew the ship had not been destroyed by explosives, but by a giant sea monster.

Everyone just dismissed his words as hallucinations brought on by extreme stress. For thirty years, Dr. Randa had been trying to validate his research. Now, he'd finally succeeded!

Dr. Randa believed that the Earth's interior was actually hollow, and that colossal behemoths were sleeping inside. Once the right moment arrived, those monsters would awaken and destroy all of human civilization.

The island they were on was the connection point between the underground world and the surface world. The giant Kong that had just appeared validated Dr. Randa's theory.

"SHIT!"

Captain Packard spat out in frustration. He didn't understand anything about giant beasts, Titans, or the Monarch Program. He only knew that most of his soldiers had been killed by that giant monster.

So he stood up, turned around, and said to his men,

"Chapman is currently at the highest peak on the West Side. The arms transport plane is there too. As long as we get there and get the weapons, we can kill that monster!"

As a U.S. military combat hero, Captain Packard didn't think of himself as an intruder. Although they had flown directly into this island and dropped bombs, which woke up Kong, that was just the American way of thinking, you know!

"I'm giving you face by dropping bombs on your house, and you dare to resist? You really don't know what's good for you."

"Aren't we supposed to go to the North Side rendezvous point?" Cole, the Black soldier, timidly raised his hand and asked.

An Aircraft Carrier was waiting for them outside the island. However, it couldn't get in because of the storm. The original plan was for them to survey everything on the island within three days, then head to the North Side rendezvous point, where someone would send a plane to pick them up.

"Without any transportation, there's no way we can reach the North Side of the island in three days. Besides, that monster killed so many of our brothers. I have to kill him no matter what!" Captain Packard said with a grim expression.

This island was at least four or five hundred kilometers long from north to south. If the helicopters were still around, it would only be an hour's journey. But now they could only rely on their two legs.

Captain Packard knew that his men were all battle-hardened veterans, but three days to cover five hundred kilometers in the Rainforest? That's simply not a task humans can accomplish!

All the helicopters were either crushed or smashed to the ground by Kong. With Kong's huge size and strength, all the survivors were now evenly distributed within a five-kilometer radius.

Besides Captain Packard's team, another team with a larger number of people was the research team that had just been deployed!

This team was led by Conrad, a former captain in the British Royal Air Force. The group included Weaver, an anti-war female journalist; Dr. Brooks, a geology professor; Dr. San, a paleontology professor; Victor, a field supervisor sent by the government; and Cliff, a combatant.

Because all the helicopters had crashed, they had completely lost contact with the others. After some discussion, they decided to try and reach the rendezvous point on the North Side of the island.

Conrad knew that, at their pace, reaching the rendezvous point in three days was a pipe dream, but it was something to aim for, wasn't it?

He wasn't like Captain Packard, with his stubborn insistence on going after the giant ape!

That thing had taken down an entire squadron of helicopters like they were toys. For this group of the weak and the wounded to try and cause trouble for it was frankly a bit absurd.

"Follow me, everyone. We'll go along the riverbank. Maybe we can find a campsite tonight!"

Conrad encouraged the group as they walked. They were basically a bunch of weaklings. Apart from Cliff, who had some combat ability, the other four could be described as completely defenseless.

Moreover, after the shocking performance of Kong taking down the aircraft, the entire team's mood was off.

No one could remain calm after seeing the mountain-sized ape, and even Conrad's mind was buzzing.

However, as a wilderness survival expert, he knew he had to calm down; after all, he seemed to be the only one in the entire team who could handle the situation.

"I have to say, the environment here is beautiful!" Weaver, the female journalist, was the first to recover. As an anti-war reporter, she had taken many photos in Vietnam exposing the cruelty of war over the years, giving her a stronger psychological resilience than the average person.

Seeing the scenery around them, which resembled a fairyland, Weaver felt she should take more photos.

"Water sources are actually very dangerous places. Generally speaking, if you are alone deep in the forest, you must be careful when approaching a water source!" Conrad began to educate everyone on wilderness survival guidelines. Although everyone was still in a daze, it was better to say something than nothing.

"What's that?" Dr. San, who had been a background character, pointed at something that was revealed in the pond and asked.

"That's a Reef Island, which is very common in the Rainforest—"

Conrad was about to show off his professional knowledge, but then he saw that the Reef Island suddenly moved!
