Chapter 7 - Dick Quartel (3)

They continued chasing down the black SUV. A few lanes down, he turned left.

"Hey! What are you doing? We lost him." Krishna shouted.

"If we followed him for too long, he would've gotten suspicious." Henry replied, without turning away from the wheel. "We need to act normal."

Then, he pulled into an electric charging station.

"And besides I needed to get a refill."

He stepped outside and grabbed the charger. He tapped the back of his car and the charging port opened. He plugged it in, and its edges glowed blue. Krishna snorted and opened his laptop. He began to click on the keyboard, various codes and programs popping up on his display. After a few minutes, he hacked into the city's security system. He switched cameras rapidly and eventually found the politician's car stuck in a red light.

"You know, you're insane for breaking into a city system," Henry muttered, bending down to look inside his car.

Krishna snorted. "Relax, it's not like I'm using their gear. Every security core is bound to one unique terminal. Touch it without the right system ID and it nukes your data in seconds."

"So, how aren't you fried?"

Krishna smirked, fingers flying. "Because I'm smarter than their AI. Now stop talking — I've got about thirty seconds before it catches me."

He carefully watched the SUV. A while later, it began driving again. He switched cameras, trying to follow it.

'Seems to be going to his home…'

But just then a warning signal appeared on his laptop. He almost jumped and frantically began typing. He had been caught hacking into the security system and now it was responding. He quickly exited the system, removed any traces and closed his exit route. After that, he linked his laptop to the Ip of a laptop he threw away. His Ip instantly changed, and he calmly switched it off.

"Should've used my own account to login…oh, wait, that wouldn't work." He groaned.

Then, Henry entered the car, slamming the door shut.

"Finished charging?" Krishna asked.

"Yes."

Henry activated the car and departed the charging station.

"Where is he now?"

"Heading home." Krishna replied.

***

Henry weaved through the streets, taking over every car that came in their way. He had his GPS open and was heading in the direction of Dick's home. On the highway, the sound of continuous honks blasted through his ears, making him grit his teeth. Then, he swiftly exited the highway, turning right then left. He drove forward for a while before stopping before the black SUV. The politician was stuck at another red light.

Henry grinned, gripping. the wheel.

"Found you."

Krishna sulked in the passenger seat, staring at the back of the SUV. A few minutes went by without anything happening. Then, the traffic lights turned green. Henry pressed the accelerator but stopped right after.

"Why aren't they going? Are they waiting for someone or did they forgot to see?"

A few minutes later, his suspicions were confirmed. From the alley, a man wearing a black suit with a red interior stepped out. He looked to be in his twenties with brown hair and eyes. His face was covered under the hood of his cloak, but Henry still felt a chill down his spine. The figure's aura…was too natural – too free. Krishna eyes widened, cold sweat rolling down his face. The man halted before the door.

The car opened and he stepped inside then the car drove off. Henry and Krishna sat in utter confusion and shock as vehicles passed them. Henry snapped back to his senses a few seconds after and slammed on the accelerator. The car roared the life and quickly tailed behind the Black SUV which was turning a corner. Krishna's lips parted and he tried to say something, but no sound came out.

He flinched and touched his neck, surprised at the disappearance of his voice. Then, he frowned as his voice came back.

"-haos, definitely."

"Right, that guy's aura was too…normal." Henry hissed.

He glanced at his GPS. They were about a mile from Dick's home. The SUV turned left but he drove forward. He turned left on the next turn, then turned left again, driving straight. The black SUV stopped in front of a mansion surrounded by many police officers. Dick and the strange man stepped out. Henry passed the SUV, turning right. The officers greeted Dick and the strange man as they entered the mansion.

The doors silently closed behind them as the strangely normal aura disappeared. Henry drove behind the mansion, stopping a few lanes down. Krishna kicked the door opened and stepped out.

"Hey!"

"What?" Krishna turned around.

"Don't kick the car! These things are expensive to repair." Henry hissed.

"So? I'm not the one who has tinted glass and fancy interior." Krishna mocked.

"Oh, you are dead." Henry stepped out of the car.

Krishna chuckled and closed the door. Both opened the trunk at the same time. Henry slammed Krishna on the head. Krishna picked binoculars. They walked down the alley and climbed up a ladder. They climbed for half an hour before finally reaching the top. The duo breathed heavily as they fell.

"God damn! Why do the buildings in the outer districts have no elevators?" Krishna complained.

"This part is usually for homeless people. Even in rom, there are bound to be some. Even if they can't stand up on their damn feet and are uselessly using the money on drinks and excessive food rather than getting a stable insurance, than these places will always exist." Henry ranted.

"But what can I say? It's an equilibrium we've got. If one person falls, another rises. There is always disparity, never equality."

"You and your rants." Krishna teased as he stood up. "At least the rent is cheap."

"That I can agree with you on." Henry jumped up to his feet.

Then, they both walked towards the edge of the tall building made of bricks. Henry squinted his eyes, barely seeing Dick's home from far away. He and Krishna sat down, gripping their binoculars. They looked through them, but they didn't zoom in.

"God dammit, did you forget to zoom them?"

"Bro, you're the one who's supposed to do that. Me for me. You for you." Krishna replied.

"Okay – okay. Fine." Henry said.

He grabbed the edge of the binocular with his index finger and thumb. Then, he twisted a disc on the edge of the binocular. Henry's vision instantly zoomed in, allowing him to see the interior of Dick's home through his windows. Both searched for a while, trying to find Dick.

"Hey." Krishna whispered.

"What?" Henry asked.

"Look through the second window on the left side."

Henry adjusted his posture and looked at the window Krishna had pointed at. He saw Dick and the man sitting on chairs, discussing something they couldn't hear.

'Who is that guy?'

Henry continued to stare at them while the mystery of the strange man lingered in his mind. After a while of talking, the man and Dick moved. Henry clicked his tongue, unable to follow them. He looked through his binoculars, scanning through each window but had no luck in finding them. But just then, his phone buzzed. He picked up the call and heard a familiar voice.

"We got the warrants. Keep your positions."
