Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: The Family's Secrets Grow Thicker

Su Qing glanced at her father-in-law, deliberately feigning sorrow. "Dad, what does Xiao Ji have to do with this arcade? The woman next to him—that Homo sapiens—is the same one from the video on Xiao Ji's phone.

They've been together all this time. They never broke up. He's been lying to me! How could he do this?"Her voice trembled with grief and anger as she confronted her father-in-law.

Her father-in-law's face darkened, but he remained silent. He stood up from the sofa and muttered, "I don't know,"before retreating into his room.

Su Qing watched him leave, then returned to her own room. She waited for Xiao Ji to come home, wondering how he would spin his lies this time.

She didn't even know if he would return tonight. Glancing at the clock—11:30 PM—she drifted into drowsiness. Just as she was about to fall asleep, the door creaked open. Xiao Ji was back.

She stayed silent, pretending to be asleep.

If Xiao Ji had any sense, he wouldn't provoke her tonight. It was too late, and she didn't want to bring it up now—it would only ruin her sleep and affect tomorrow's work.

But she wouldn't let this go. She feigned sleep as he approached, bent down to look at her, then turned off her bedside lamp and quietly left.

Since he hadn't disturbed her, they could both rest easy tonight. Everything else could wait until tomorrow.

She kept her eyes shut, still pretending, when suddenly she heard her father-in-law's voice outside.

"Wait. I need to talk to you."

Su Qing quickly slipped out of bed, tiptoed to the door, and pressed her ear against it.

She wanted to hear what her father-in-law had to say to Xiao Ji.

The two sat on the living room sofa. She gently turned the doorknob, cracking it open just enough to listen. If she didn't open it, she wouldn't be able to hear clearly—but from this angle, the sofa was out of sight.

"Su Qing's asleep."

Xiao Ji gave a quiet "Mm."

"What happened at your escape room?"

"Dad, how do you know?"

"I watched City Expresstonight. With Su Qing."

"How does sheknow?"Xiao Ji's voice was laced with shock.

Su Qing never imagined that Xiao Ji's escape room—run with that Homo sapienswoman—was something even her father-in-law knew about.

"Who knows? Tonight, Su Qing suddenly asked me to turn on the news. She said she saw you on her phone. What's going on? It made such a big scene it even made the news."

"Didn't you see the report? It's exactly what happened. A player got drunk, started a scene, tried to fake a Phoxinus phoxinus subsp. phoxinusscenario, and two groups of Homo sapiensended up brawling. They wrecked my arcade. I wanted to settle it privately, without involving the police—but someone called them. And then the news crew showed up. The police investigated for hours, and Si-Yan was terrified.

I had to step in. Now that it's on TV, Su Qing definitely knows about me and Si-Yan."

"Su Qing probably knew long ago. Otherwise, it wouldn't be such a coincidence. Maybe she hired someone to investigate you."Her father-in-law's voice dropped.

"No way. Su Qing's only been back a few days. She might've guessed I had someone else, but she wouldn't know who.

And the escape room—it's weird. The moment something happened, Su Qing found out. She came back demanding a divorce. Maybe she's known about Si-Yan all along!"

"I told you before—cut ties with Si-Yan. But you wouldn't listen. You've been tangled up with her for years.

Think carefully. Do you want a life with Si-Yan or Su Qing? You need to decide.

I gave her 300,000 to leave you—compensation. But you've kept dragging this out. Su Qing must know by now. What's your plan?"His voice grew heavier.

"You think 300,000 can erase all these years between me and Si-Yan? The damage you caused her can never be undone. Don't worry about my affairs."

Xiao Ji's voice was icy.

Su Qing, still pressed against the door, felt a chill crawl through her. Xiao Ji's affair wasn't just known by his parents—they'd even paid that Homo sapienswoman 300,000. What was going on?

That woman's connection to their family clearly ran deeper. The mysteries in this household were piling up.

"Xiao Ji, sit down. There's more I need to say."Her father-in-law's tone softened.

"If it's about that Homo sapiensand her son, save it. I don't want to hear it. He's nothing to me, and I owe her nothing."Xiao Ji's voice was cold.

"I was wrong. I hurt you. Xiao Ji, I'm begging you. Just go—"
