Chapter 8 - Chapter 3:To The Academy

"It seems we are early," Orin grinned, nudging his twin with an elbow as they stood under the massive, shadow-drenched archway of the Zion transport docks.

Ren offered a soft, quiet smile, adjusting the heavy strap of his duffel bag. "Of course we are early. You practically stuffed our gear into our bags, threw them over your shoulders, and bolted out the door. Mom and Dad barely had time to process it. If I hadn't stepped in to properly explain that the transport schedule shifted, they would have worried themselves sick."

Orin pouted, crossing his arms over his chest, though his purplish-red eyes danced with an irrepressible spark. "I was just excited! Can you blame me? We're finally leaving the canyon." His expression instantly shifted, lighting up as he spotted a group approaching through the morning haze. "Look! The others are here!"

Orin raised an arm, waving them over with a wide, infectious grin.

"Orin! Ren! You guys are going to the Academy too? I can't believe it!"

A vibrant girl burst from the approaching group. It was Sena, a childhood friend and a fiercely loyal Delta tracker from the lower rings of Zion. Before either of the twins could reply, she threw her arms around them, pulling both Orin and Ren into a tight, breathless hug.

Ren caught his breath, his soft voice cutting through her enthusiastic greeting with a gentle warmth. "Sena... it seems we're all going together after all."

As Sena finally released them, a heavy, familiar pressure settled over the docks. The idle chatter of the gathering students ground to an absolute halt. The ambient temperature seemed to drop, and the faint, molten veins running along the stone floor throbbed a deep, warning crimson.

"It seems you are all here, then."

The voice was a low rumble that resonated right through the soles of their boots. Lord Enigma Titan strode out from the shadow of the command tower, his towering presence immediately commanding the space. Beside him, Rhea walked with a disciplined, rhythmic stride, her sharp Alpha gaze scanning the small crowd of recruits before settling on the twins.

The weight of the Enigma's aura was suffocating, a silent reminder of the vast world they were about to step into—and the secrets they desperately needed to keep hidden.

"Alright then," Lord Enigma Titan boomed, his voice cutting clean through the air as his heavy gaze swept over the small line of youth standing before the canyon gates. "You kids have been selected to attend the Academy. Remember who you represent, and do your best."

His expression remained stern, a stoic cliff face forged in stone and earth, but there was an unmistakable weight in his final words. "Now, it is time for you to go."

A low, subterranean hum vibrated through the metal plating of the landing pad, growing into a roaring wind that whipped through their hair. From the thick cloud cover above the canyon walls, a colossal brass-and-iron airship descended. Its hull was reinforced with thick runic plating, and massive anti-grav engines turned the sky into a shimmering heat haze. The sheer size of the vessel made the students shrink back in awe—a true sky-dreadnought, built to navigate the chaotic airspaces between the city-states.

The heavy boarding ramp lowered with a loud hiss of released steam. With quick nudges and hushed whispers, the youths hauled their luggage aboard.

Inside, the transport was vast and atmospheric, illuminated by amber glow-strips recessed along the walls. Row upon row of cushioned seats accommodated recruits brought in from various outposts. Orin practically dragged Ren toward a window row to watch the docks shrink below them, his purplish-red eyes drinking in every detail of the airship's interior, while Ren leaned back, taking deep breaths to tune out the overwhelming buzz of anxiety radiating from the dozens of teenagers crammed into the hold.

Nearby, Rhea stood straight, taking in the cabin with a quiet, disciplined Alpha demeanor.

"Rhea!"

A light, melodious voice called out over the dull roar of the airship's engines. A girl with soft features and a warm, calm aura stepped into the main aisle from the forward section. It was Anya, the Omega child of Enigma Gaia, hailing from the lush, wild city of Mycelia. Her gentle presence seemed to instantly ease the thick tension in the surrounding air.

Rhea turned, her sharp expression softening just a fraction as she recognized her. "Anya. I didn't realize that the transport had already docked in Mycelia." Rhea said

"Yeah, it did," Anya said, offering a small, relieved smile as she adjusted the strap of her travel pack. "Our flight out of Mycelia was delayed by a spirit-storm, so we had to link up with Zion's transport route at the last minute."

"I'm here too, Rhea," a crisp, confident voice chimed in.

Caelus stepped out from behind a row of brass-rimmed passenger seats, a sleek data-tablet tucked casually under his arm. The Enigma-born son of Aethelgard adjusted the collar of his tailored jacket, his sharp eyes scanning the high-tech interior of the sky-dreadnought with open fascination.

"Aren't you guys excited?" Caelus said, a grin breaking across his face as he gestured to the sprawling cabin around them. "This isn't just any transport—it's equipped with classic Aethelgardian engine modifications. We're going to reach the Citadel in half the standard travel time."

Rhea gave a single, firm nod, her Alpha presence remaining calm and grounded despite the growing energy in the cabin. "Excited or not, Caelus, we need to stay sharp. The Crucible won't be a simple orientation."

A few seats back, Orin leaned over the headrest, his purplish-red eyes practically glowing with enthusiasm as he took in the sight of the other Enigma children gathering. "See, Ren?" he whispered loudly, nudging his brother's shoulder. "Everyone's hyped up. This is going to be incredible."

Ren, sitting quietly by the window, let out a soft, breathy laugh. He pulled his hood up slightly, feeling the faint, overlapping hum of Caelus's restless intellect and Anya's soothe-aura washing across his sensitive Omega perception. "Incredible, maybe," Ren murmured softly, his gaze drifting out the thick glass pane as Zion's massive stone canyons shrank into distant ribbons below them. "Just try not to start a fight before we even land."
