Reverend: "Do you believe in Angels, my child?"
The cool holding cell evoked feelings of boredom and a slight sense of solitude to Eclair, well it was 'slight' for a reason. The young boy faced the old clergyman with a beard reaching down to the bottom of his throat and eyes so dark that they seemed to absorbed all the lights in world.
What was Eclair thinking? Being held in a holding cell below moderate temperature? Enclosed in a room with a drooling, sniveling senior who wouldn't stop spouting about common notions and events. Things like how certain people actively kidnap and conduct rituals on people, or how their 'goal' was to make demonic contracts through those rituals. Typical events that news outlets like Current Affair would broadcast.
Eclair: Angel? Uhhhhm, why do you ask?
Whilst fidgeting with his hair, Eclair asked the reverend:
Eclair: To be honest, I'm not all caught up on my Bible studies...and I haven't been to church in a while....
Eclair: 'When was the last time I visited church?'
Him thinking of visiting church was convenient, as it was never a significant affair for him.
The man sat facing Eclair and proceeded to reach his left arm into the left back pocket of his robe. Pulling out an undamaged book.
Reverend: "So you truly do not know? Good, I shall tutor you and grant you insight into God's holy troops."
Eclair, still slouched in a round posture and showing no interest in a lesson could only stay quiet as the Reverend began rambling.
Reverend: "When God make Heaven, he had created an army of beings made of pure light. These beings were Angels, and their only purpose in life were to serve him. But one day, God decided to split the concepts he used to create this fake, disgusting world and give it to the Angels.
Eclair: 'Disgusting? Is he talking about Earth?'
He had received quite a shock as the cruel remarks by the Reverend were relayed with zero context.
Reverend: Thus, the Angels now carry the concepts of existence! How holy, what a sacred duty it is to wield the very foundation of this world! Can you believe it! Can you even comprehend the mission they are tasked with!!!
Eclair reeled back as the man leaped up with an unnatural ferociousness, uncommon for those of his age and stature.
Eclair: "I-I know."
Reverend: "DO YOU? DO YOU TRULY UNDERSTAND THE MIGHT OF THE ANGELS, THE POWER THEY POSSESS?! IF THEY TRULY WANTED TO, THEY COULD UPTURN THIS ENTIRE WORLD WITH A FLAP OF THEIR WINGS! THERE EXISTS NOTHING IN THIS WORLD THAT CAN TOPPL-".
-----
-----
Reverend: "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-"
Grabbing at his face, the man quite literally begins to gouge out his eyeballs!
Eclair: "Wha-. EHH! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
The teen, finally awakened from his state of shock, begins to jump and prance around his cell frantically.
Grabbing at the cell's rails, he yells out and pleas for help, for anyone, anything to get him out of this cell.
Eclair: "OWUHAUHW, ANYONE, PLEASEEEEEEE!!!! HELPPPPPPPP! HELPPPP ME!
The most-recently insane man begins to speak on something...
Reverend: "IM SORRY, PLEASE, PLEASE, GET AWAY FROM ME, IM SORRY, I WONT PRAISE THE ANGELS, ILL NEVER DISRESPECT THE MIGHT OF THE DEMO-."
Splat!
Grrglrrrrglrrrlgrrl
The sound of flowing blood. Eclair with his back facing the wild father hears a flowing stream behind him.
He turns his head ever so slowly, capturing an image devoid of anything holy. A scene possessing such dread, such repulsion, Eclair felt as though nothing good had ever happened to him.
Eclair: "Owah, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!""
Falling on his back in pure terror, he shuffles into a corner of the cell and begins weeping in panic.
Eclair: "Auntie!!! , I don't wanna be here no more! PLEASE!"
The corner of the room where the man had begun his apologetic self harm was completely obscured by deep dark shadows that stretched and shifted to take the form of horns and claws.
The man, In whose clothes and face were once clean and unwounded, now possessed empty eye sockets, his face half torn open from the jaw to the nose, his torse punctured leaving bloody holes, and in his hands were the pieces of flesh, muscle and glands missing from his neck!
Eclair simply could not behold this scene any longer.
But where were guards? It was midday, surely they were supposed to be working?
Eclair: 'O my God, O my God. How!?! Why!?!"
How could this have happened?
Why did the reverend, who not long ago spoke highly of God and his Angels begin to ravage himself?
Eclair: 'What were those holes? He couldn't of made those!'
Shaking whilst holding his knees onto his chest, tears continued to flow as he held his head up to see the man.
Nothing
The man was gone, his blood, neck muscles, all of it.
All traces of the man's existence were gone.
Eclair swiftly put his head down and began to weep even harder now.
Eclair: "Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaehheh. Wahhhhhh."
-----------------------------
8 Hours Later.
Eclair would stand trial for the murder of a homeless individual that was seen frequently in his neighborhood.
He had only ever interacted with the man once.
That was during the mans final moments.
The boy attempted to help by pulling out the murder weapon.
The police would later find Eclair near the man's corpse and with his fingerprints on the murder weapon.
There was no need for a retrial.
He lost, horribly.
35 Years, No parole.
His life. Over. Like that.
....
....
...
Eclair: O God, why?
Sat in the same cell. He began to pray. Pray for salvation from a crooked fate.
His life revolved around nothing but his aunt. The news of the murder had devastated her beyond any healing. Her only family, took the life of an innocent man.
There was hope, hope that her nephew did not kill that man!
But hope never held a candle towards 'justice', towards the 'law'.
Thus, her own candle of hope was snuffed out by his sentencing.
Eclair: "What did I do? Had I ever sinned? How serious was my sin?? Tell me! TELL ME!"
He screamed into the once occupied cell.
Eclair: "EVIL! HOW EVIL MUST YOU BE! TO GRANT ME A FUTURE LIKE THIS! WHAT ABOUT MY AUNTIE? HOW WILL SHE LIVE KNOWING HER ONLY LIVING FAMILY IS A FUCKING NO GOOD KILLER!
Tears gradually began to form, his voice cracking as he exclaimed:
Eclair: "T-there is nothing left for me! NOTHING!"
---:"But their is."
?
Eclair: What?
Eclair: 'Am I hearing things? I must be.'
---: "So what if you are? What was it that you said before?
Eclair jumped up from his seat.
Eclair: "There's nothing left for me?"
---: "Hmmmm."
This entity inside Eclair head seems to be contemplating something.
---: "Eclair Adams, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.'
Eclair: "What? Who ar- What are you?"
---: Did you not understand the contents of what the man who killed himself was teaching. The reverend who was consumed by offended Demons.
Eclair stood shaken by the nebulous beings words.
Eclair: "You! You must be angel!"
---: "Then I will continue! Eclair Adams, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Would you like to enter a Contract with me."
---: "Eclair, DO YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR AUNT AGAIN!"
Eclair stops and stares at the ceiling, to the sky that lay beyond that cold, diminutive cell, and accepts.
Eclair: "Yes! I do want to see her again!. I accept the contract!"
---: "Then do you agree to aid and follow my requests to the best of your abilities? Would you go to the ends of the earth for your aunt, would you dive into the rushing waves of filled with the tortured souls of Wrath for her!?"
Eclair screams out with tears of desire and hope in his eyes.
Eclair: "YES!"
---: "THEN SAY MY NAME AND ACCEPT THE CONTRACT. BECOME MY CONTRACTED AND SOAR HIGHER THEN ANYONE EVER HAS. I WILL FULFILL YOUR WISH ECLAIR!"
Eclair crumples down onto his knees in pure joy and elation.
Eclair: "What is your name?"
---: "My name is.....
"Anki."
Eclair declares: "Anki, you are my angel!"
