Chapter 94 - 94. Annual Guilds meeting (8)

With a calm face, Makarov rained down numerous light spears at the cloaked figures, obliterating them instantly.

"Dead Wave!" Multiple ghosts formed a circular shape as they quickly began revolving before rushing at Makarov at high speed.

"Three Pillar Gods!" A barrier surrounded Makarov.

BOOM

The destructive wave clashed with the protective barrier, producing a loud sound in the surrounding area.

"You need to try better than that." Makarov taunted.

"Yeah? How about you try this?"

Multiple ghosts floated in the sky before combining to form a large jellyfish.

The tentacles of the jellyfish morphed into a needle-like shape as they quickly released a barrage of punches. Each of them was fast enough to be blurred to an ordinary person.

BANG BANG BANG

The barrier shielded Makarov from the punches. The latter released a multiple beam of light on the tentacles, but they weren't able to do any significant damage.

"Now, that's what I am talking about. Though it's not that outstanding either." Makarov shook his head before jumping up.

The ground beneath him cracked as if a building had fallen on it.

Next second, Makarov appeared above the Jellyfish with his right arm enlarged.

BAM

In one punch, the jellyfish was sent flying at Jose, who quickly changed his position.

BOOM

"I think I have seen enough. Let's end this." Makarov said in a tone of finality, before his body enlarged into a gigantic figure.

He raised his large foot and stomped on the ground.

The entire ground within a mile radius shook violently, as if a serious earthquake was happening.

"Fuck." Jose lost his footing due to that, which was Makarov's goal.

A humongous fist rushed at him with blinding speed. All the shade troopers near him quickly formed a defensive sphere around Jose.

"It's futile."

CRACK

All of them were demolished instantly, before the fist connected with Jose, instantly knocking him out.

"That was...pretty quick." Jenny had expected a long and epic battle between the two, but didn't expect the battle to be over in less than 2 minutes. That included the time in which both she and Kazu had conversed.

"Yup. Pretty quick." Kazu smirked. 'Maybe I was a bit too hasty to say that Gildarts is stronger than Makarov. I am really curious how the battle between the two would go.' They were currently standing on a barrier floating in the sky.

He looked down at the surroundings. The ground was cracked in many places, losing any sign of evenness. Trees were uprooted or crushed into pieces. It looked like an apocalyptic scene.

'He didn't even use Fairy Law. His signature magic—Giant was only used as a finisher. This was too one-sided. I wonder if I would if I could cause this level of destruction in the future.'

---

After the quick battle, the meeting continued without any interruption. The first thing Makarov had told Jose, when the latter had woken up, was—

"I think the Council's ranking of you being a Wizard Saint is not incorrect. I was expecting to beat you in just one move, so stand proud." Makarov smirked while saying that.

Jose clenched his fist, but his expression didn't change. He didn't react to the provocation.

"Now, now. Let's continue the meeting." The speaker quickly killed any possibility of another battle occurring.

---

"Well, if there's a chance, let's meet again in the future."

"Yeah."

Kazu said his farewell to Jenny before getting on the carriage.

'The only possibility to meet again would be either on a mission, or if I am near Blue Pegasus's area. Though I remember that the guild was even weirder than Fairy Tail.' His lips twitched when he remembered Ichiya.

"So, how were the last two days?" Makarov asked with a smirk.

Kazu rolled his eyes. "You just brought me to show off."

Makarov shook his head. "You are forgetting the main thing—the betting." He pointed at his waist bag.

"Right. We really made a haul this time. This much money could fuel several S-rank missions easily." Kazu hummed, mentally, about the finances.

"What are you thinking so seriously about?" Makarov suddenly asked.

"Just thinking about where to invest the new capital. The treasury is already overfilled. I feel like money is being wasted if it's just static."

Makarov nodded. "Actually, I think it's time you completely take control over resource allocation and acquisition. Currently, you just advise me to make a decision, and I execute on it. I am giving you full control over execution, too. I would just be a spectator."

Kazu blinked. "Wait, what!?" He was caught off guard by the suddenness of this.

"Though you still need to mature in several ways, you are ready for this," Makarov said in a reassuring tone.

Kazu made a cross with both his arms. "Pause. You can't just dump all those responsibilities so suddenly, without any warning. I can't spend too much time on this. I need to still train the old man."

'With my current position, I barely need to work 10 hours a month. With this, it would probably increase to 30-40 hours a month. That's like 1 hour per day.' Kazu was quite against the idea.

"Oh, I forgot to mention, but I am increasing your salary too. As they say, with great responsibility comes great power." As if he could see through Kazu's thoughts, Makarov added this next second.

'I think he said that phrase in the opposite order.'

"7 Million per month."

Kazu blinked. His eyes widened next second. 'Hold up. This is a 10 times increase. My time increase is by 3 times only...No, I can't fall for this trap. My time is more precious.'

Just as Kazu was going to retort, Makarov beat him to it. "You won't have to take any missions with that money. You also know that it's rare to get S-rank missions. Moreover, there's already one S-rank present in the guild. You would have to compete with him for those few missions.

Moreover, in the future, there would be more S-rankers, so the competition for such a mission would increase. You are technically saving time by not needing to do multiple lower-ranked missions, right?"

Kazu's neutral expression finally broke into a deadpan. "You have already planned this carefully, haven't you, old man?"

Makarov laughed. "Will you believe me that I thought of all this on the spot?"

"No." 'Well, the deal is not bad. An alternative option would be to do multiple missions in a short amount of time and collect a large amount of money for a year or two, but that's unsustainable if I want to buy artefacts in the future.

Moreover, I do like my current role. Expanding on that would be an interesting experience.' Kazu had already made a decision, but he didn't want to say it out loud.

It felt like he was losing to the old man.

"Also, now that I think about it, haven't you guided Gray, Cana and a few others in their magic path? Technically, this kind of role is done by me, but you seem pretty capable. How about I make an official role for that?"

Kazu rolled his eyes. "Old man, I get it. I accept. No need to make another role. I don't want money for helping fellow guild mates."

"Haha. I am doing this for them, not you. They won't have a clear conscience if they ask you without anything in exchange. Currently, only your close friends can do that, but I am thinking about the entire guild." Makarov stroked his chin.

Kazu hummed. A mental image of people brawling in the tavern came up in his mind.

'Do those people even have a conscience?' He rolled his eyes, but didn't say anything.

'I was going to do something like this eventually. Just knowing different kinds of magic gives me a completely new perspective. My understanding of magic had increased deeply. One example was that I was able to cancel Eris's final spell despite seeing it for the first time.

I was also unconscious while doing that. So, it was ridiculous. This is pretty important for my Interference, and for a few more spells I would be creating in the future.'

"Fine. But I don't want the money. What would I do with that much money? 7 million is already too much for a month."

"Just take it. You would realise it later that there's not always enough money."

Kazu rolled his eyes. "Well, what would be my responsibilities?"

"We will discuss this after this year's S-rank trials. You should focus on mastering the Three Pillar Gods."

'So, he wants me to take this position after I become S-rank. Guess, that would give more credibility.'

"Very well."

September x778

"What did you call me for?" Kazu entered the room. His expression turned when he looked at Makarov's appearance.

"Take a look at this." Makarov handed him a document, which Kazu took.

His eyes widened when he read its contents.
