Raven slipped silently through the cool night air, her clothing fluttering behind her as she landed softly on the windowsill of her bedroom at the Krusty Kunai. The moonlight glimmered faintly on her white hair as she eased the window open and stepped inside. The room was dim, filled with the soft scent of herbs and parchment. On her bed, the nine-tailed fox Yumi lounged comfortably, her fur shining like spun silver, each tail spread across the blankets like delicate ribbons of moonlight.
Yumi's golden eyes followed Raven as she closed the window behind her. "Sneaking in through your own window late at night, huh? Your parents would be so proud."
Raven sighed, pulling down her hood and tossing her cloak across a chair. "Shut it, you little fox."
Yumi's ears twitched as she grinned lazily. "Ha ha ha, I am a little fox."
Raven rolled her eyes and dropped onto the edge of her bed, stretching her arms. "So, how'd it go?" Yumi asked, sitting up, her tails swaying gently.
Raven raised one hand and made an A-OK sign. "I recruited Hinata to improve her training. After observing her closely, I realized her elemental affinity is water. Once she masters Water Release, she'll be able to learn Ice Release as an extension of her power."
She folded her arms, thoughtful. "As for the Gentle Fist style of the Hyūga Clan, we can integrate it into our own techniques. That way her father won't completely disown her."
Yumi tilted her head as Raven's tone darkened. "Speaking of the Hyūga," Raven continued, "they're completely incompetent—letting a foreign delegation into their home and allowing the elders and Hinata's father to be drugged without suspecting a thing. You never accept food or drink from outsiders and actually consume it right in front of them! That's practically begging to be kidnapped."
Yumi sighed, flicking one tail lazily. "Are you done post-battle monologuing?"
Raven blinked, then gave a small shrug. "Yeah, I don't know. I just like monologuing. I've got to get better at it, though—that wasn't an epic rant. Not nearly as good as I know it could be."
"Whatever," Yumi said with a yawn. "So what are you doing now?"
"First?" Raven muttered, stretching again. "Bed."
She grabbed a towel and headed into the small washroom, the sound of running water echoing softly through the quiet apartment. After showering, she changed into her sleepwear, her hair damp against her shoulders. Yumi had already curled herself into a ball at the corner of the bed by the time Raven climbed under the blankets. Within seconds, the little fox's tails lifted and settled again in rhythm with Raven's breathing as she drifted into sleep.
Minutes passed before the door creaked open. Chiyo Kamazaki and Seijirō Kamazaki peeked into the room quietly, their faces soft with affection. The dim light revealed their daughter fast asleep, her white hair tousled across the pillow, the faint rise and fall of her chest peaceful at last.
"Oh, looks like Raven's doing good," Seijirō whispered.
Chiyo smiled as she noticed Yumi in the corner, meticulously grooming one of her tails. "All right, dear, she's fine. Let's get back to making those pizza-crust fortune cookies. Business is up another sixty percent since you started adding those sage-like messages telling people to buy more pizza inside the store."
Seijirō chuckled under his breath as they both eased the door closed again. Yumi paused her grooming for a moment, ears twitching, then went back to licking her tail with a quiet hum.
By morning, sunlight streamed through the window, warming the wooden floor and casting long, gold bands of light across the room. Raven stirred beneath the sheets, blinking her violet eyes open. She sat up slowly, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. Yumi stretched near the foot of the bed, her tails unfurling like soft white silk.
"Your parents checked on you last night," Yumi said, her voice drowsy.
Raven smiled faintly as she reached for her clothes. "They wouldn't be good parents if they didn't."
Yumi tilted her head. "So, who's your target today?"
"Ino," Raven said simply, pulling her dark tunic over her head and fastening her belt.
Yumi perked up, her ears twitching. "As in the Ino-Shika-Chō families? The trio that always takes missions together?"
"Exactly," Raven replied, adjusting the straps of her sandals. "I'm going to intercept Ino and help her become stronger."
Yumi flicked one of her tails, eyes narrowing curiously. "Is there some kind of master grand plan behind all these people you're helping?"
Raven glanced over her shoulder, her expression calm but thoughtful. "You never know, Yumi. You never know."
