Chapter 366 - Chapter 366

Noctis steadied his sword arm despite the cut running along it and watched the closest flattened anchor-plane turn toward him like a judgment surface. The failed spear-points around the emptied radius continued opening, their Chains of Law stretching into rigid borders, their faces taking in his stance, weapon, Reapers, chains, and the pressure shift beneath Genesis Step, while the first shape of a compressed Radiant Trial Field closed inward around him.

The field did not need the lost fortress. It did not need courtyard stones, towers, barracks, chapel walls, market streets, foundation channels, or the five-kilometer radius Aurelion had used before Annihilation Trinity erased it. Those broad structures were gone, and the absence remained clean around the cracked remnants under Noctis's feet. Aurelion no longer tried to rebuild that scale. He used what Radiant Crucifixion had already placed around the newly ascended blood god: failed anchors, interrupted spear-points, Chains of Law, halo timing, Judicael's central authority, and the movement data gathered while Noctis fought through the pinning pattern. The anchors flattened, their spear-heads unfolding into white-gold planes. The Chains of Law between them hardened into borders. Severance pressure gathered along those borders in thin edges. The plane faces deepened into mirror-like surfaces that reflected angles and routes rather than ordinary images.

One plane recorded the angle of Noctis's right shoulder and the damaged sword arm. Another tracked the opened left palm and the route where the Heartwood transfer had entered in the previous chapter. A third followed the pressure of the sealed soul-vessel scar beneath his sternum armor. A fourth held the rotation of the surviving Reaper near his shoulder. Smaller planes formed around partial Reaper blades trying to recover near his hips. Narrower surfaces marked chain tension along both forearms, arrow formation under the left gauntlet, blood-fire residue burning across his armor seams, and the pressure shift that formed before Genesis Step opened. Each plane was close enough that even a small adjustment in stance gave it new information. Each border was close enough that a careless extension of sword, chain, or Reaper would cross active severance.

Judicael remained the center of the geometry. Aurelion held the blade-scepter above and forward, the lower guard still bearing damage from Sanguinastra and repeated impacts from Ghorvath, while the halo behind the faceless helm fed correction into every plane. The cracked spoke dragged when correction passed through it, but the compact field reused nearby hinges quickly enough that the delay no longer gave Noctis an easy line. The field had less mass than the fortress-wide trial and fewer layers of external testimony, but that also made it faster. There was no long route from wall to tower to foundation to witness surface. The planes stood around him at close range. They recorded movement at the point where movement began.

Noctis did not attack immediately.

He shifted the sword angle by three degrees.

The nearest plane brightened along its lower half. A severance border to his right adjusted, moving not toward where the blade was, but toward where the next practical cut would have to pass if he used the same hand position. Crimson Omen Sight marked the response. Noctis rotated the surviving Reaper near his left shoulder by half a turn. A second plane deepened, and a thin line of Chain of Law extended from its border toward the Reaper's rotational path. He stopped the rotation before the line touched. An abyssal chain extended four links from his right forearm. A border on the lower plane moved toward it, not fast enough to catch the chain immediately, but fast enough to turn a full extension into a trap. He retracted the chain before Malgoryth's black-red pressure, still moving beyond the planes, could pull at its outer links.

He formed a single lightning arrowhead beneath the left gauntlet.

A small mirror surface above his wrist recorded the arrow before the bow frame completed. The field did not wait for release. It judged formation as evidence. Noctis collapsed the arrowhead and shifted weight from the damaged thigh to the stronger leg. A low plane tilted toward the injured route, using the old spear mark that had grazed his ankle and thigh during Radiant Crucifixion. Genesis Step pressure gathered under his feet for only a fraction. Three planes turned before the step opened, each one marking a likely exit. He canceled the movement and let the pressure fade. The planes did not lose the data. Their borders settled into new angles, ready to punish the next version of the same attempt.

This field reacted faster than the old large trial because it did not have to consult the battlefield. The old field had needed witnesses spread across fortress structures, anchors in walls, foundation routes, tower lines, and judgment surfaces distributed through a wide area. This one had none of that weight. It sat close, direct, and hungry for motion in the mechanical sense of a technique made to record and answer. Every adjustment became testimony. Every tool became evidence. Every correction taught the surrounding geometry where he would spend power to survive.

But close also meant compact.

Noctis saw that as clearly as the danger. Compact correction reused the same hinges. Compact return nodes had shorter paths back to the halo. Compact witness planes could be disturbed locally if their timing broke in the same breath. The field was faster, but it had less depth. A local collapse might work if he struck hinge, border, return node, and Judicael reference together. It would not destroy the whole technique. It might open a gap.

Malgoryth struck before Noctis could test further.

Ghorvath came down against Judicael's guard with black-red war pressure packed along the axe head, and the impact bent several nearby planes inward. Aurelion braced with Judicael, halo correction tightening through the clean spokes and forcing the cracked spoke into motion after them. The planes closest to the weapon line trembled and darkened along their edges where Ghorvath's rift wake brushed them. They did not collapse. Their surfaces recorded the distortion and shifted border angles accordingly. One plane near Noctis's right side bent enough to open a gap, but the gap carried Malgoryth's rift edge through it, a black-red tear in pressure that would have cut across his leg if he took the apparent route. He stayed where he was and used blood-fire to burn a smear of demonic residue that drifted toward his greave.

Malgoryth's presence made the field less predictable, not safer. His war pressure bent the planes, shook return nodes, and forced Aurelion to spend correction, but it also pulled at abyssal chains, disrupted Genesis Step exits, and dragged black-red command pressure across spaces Noctis had to cross. A plane edge to his left darkened under the War-Crown's wake, and for one breath the witness surface recorded both Noctis's chain tension and the direction of Ghorvath's rift pull. Aurelion's halo corrected around that mixed data and turned the border toward Noctis's hip. Noctis cut the border with a small Reaper hook and withdrew the blade before the field could follow the rotational route back to Genesis circulation.

Aurelion used the distortion without looking away from Malgoryth. Judicael pressed against Ghorvath, severance light cutting at the outer layer of the axe's war force while the compressed field around Noctis tightened by another handspan. The closest plane turned. Its surface marked the Reaper hook he had used. A return node above the plane brightened, sending the data toward the halo. Noctis saw the line and fired the lightning arrowhead he had canceled earlier, forming and releasing it in the same breath. The arrow struck the return line and disturbed its timing. The field recorded the arrow as well, but the disruption delayed the correction long enough for him to shift his foot away from a severance border sliding toward his ankle.

He needed a real exit test.

Shadow-split arrows formed first. He released four at close range, each one crossing a different plane face with a false Genesis Core trace mixed through the shaft. The witness planes recorded them faster than Aurelion's broader recognition would have. Two false traces were exposed before the arrows traveled a body length. The third reached a border before a plane folded and pinned its path. The fourth carried enough inverted sanctity to draw a fraction of classification longer than the rest. Noctis used that fraction to fire lightning into the plane tracking his sword arm. The lightning did not break the plane, but it made its reflection stutter. Frost followed into the nearest severance border, stiffening the edge before it could rotate fully. A Reaper cut the border between two planes, and an abyssal chain caught the loosened edge, pulling it sideways while inverted holy chains caught the sanctified backlash that spilled from the hinge.

Genesis Step opened through the corner that appeared.

Noctis entered it immediately, body low, sword close to his side, chains retracted to avoid the borders. Aurelion's counter came through the field before the exit completed. The mirror surfaces exposed the false traces and marked the Reaper cut as evidence of unlawful extension. The plane he had shocked with lightning shifted its stutter into the return node rather than losing the data. Judicael sent a Bell-like pressure through the compressed geometry, and every plane around Noctis vibrated once. The Genesis Step exit became a cutting surface. Severance pressure ran along the opening he had chosen, not from a spear-point but from the border itself turning into a blade.

He forced the step shorter.

The exit tore across his right side instead of carrying him outside the field. The shoulder armor split from collarbone toward the upper back. The sword arm burned when the Bell-like vibration passed through the blade and entered the hand. One Reaper, caught between the plane he cut and the border he tried to pass, was pinned flat against a witness surface for less than a breath before Chain of Law began following its formation route. Noctis dismissed the Reaper and burned the contaminated half before Devour reclaimed the safe fragments. Sovereign Blood Aegis compressed around the sternum and soul-vessel scar as the field tried to record the brief flare beneath his chest plate. Genesis Vessel closed the side wound enough to keep his movement from dragging open with every step.

He remained inside the compressed field.

The failed escape taught him more than a clean success would have. The field's hierarchy became clearer now that he had forced several reactions in sequence. Witness planes recorded movement, tool use, pressure shifts, injury protection, and formation routes. Border severance lines punished crossing, cutting, and overextension. Correction hinges rotated planes based on each response. Return nodes fed destroyed or disturbed plane data back to the halo, where Aurelion used it to adjust the next angle. Judicael remained the central authority route, the reference point that would eventually draw the field into execution if enough surfaces agreed. Halo correction controlled timing and replacement, with the cracked spoke causing slight delay on one side, though the compact field reduced the value of that delay by using multiple nearby hinges.

The weaknesses were not generous, but they existed.

The same correction hinges were reused often because the geometry had to stay close around him. Return nodes carried data along short, visible lines when Crimson Omen Sight narrowed enough. The cracked halo spoke delayed the correction on the side connected to Aurelion's damaged wrist-support route, especially when Judicael absorbed pressure from Ghorvath. Planes closest to that damaged route hesitated for fractions whenever Aurelion corrected the blade-scepter's lower guard. Malgoryth's impacts shook the Judicael reference line without destroying it. If Noctis disrupted a hinge, a return node, and the lower Judicael reference route in the same moment, a cluster of planes could lose synchronization.

Aurelion compressed the field further.

The planes moved closer. The available space around Noctis shrank from several body lengths to less than the reach of a full sword stroke. Wide cuts became dangerous because the blade would cross three borders before completing its arc. Reaper orbit tightened until only small blades and hooks could move without scraping a plane. Chains could no longer extend more than a few links before a border tracked their tension. Arrow formation had to happen at point-blank range because the witness planes recorded bow frames as soon as they appeared. Genesis Step exits were marked almost as soon as pressure gathered under his feet. Even the Aegis reinforcement route across his sternum reflected as a faint white-gold outline on a nearby plane, giving the field a way to time pressure toward the soul-vessel scar if he let the reflection settle.

Noctis adapted by making everything smaller.

The blood-forged sword shortened into a compact blade with a reinforced spine and narrow edge. Reapers became defensive knives, short hooks, and small crescent blades placed near shoulders, hips, and knees. Arrows formed as single arrowheads released from the gauntlet rather than full shots drawn through a bow frame. Chains became wrist-length pulls used to redirect his own body or tilt a border by inches. Blood-fire burned residue the instant it appeared, even if the burn spent more energy than leaving it would have cost in an ordinary fight. Genesis Step became tiny repositioning inside the geometry rather than an escape from it. He stopped thinking about leaving the entire field. He focused on breaking one section.

The local cluster he chose sat between three planes to his right and slightly above his sword arm. One plane tracked blade angle. One tracked chain tension. One tracked Genesis Step pressure. Their borders met at a correction hinge tied to a return node behind the upper plane. That return node fed into Judicael's lower reference route, then upward toward the halo through the damaged side where the cracked spoke dragged if Ghorvath pressed hard enough. The cluster was not weak by itself. It was vulnerable only if Malgoryth's next impact shook Judicael at the same time Noctis attacked hinge, return node, and reference route.

He waited through one breath.

A spear-thin severance border moved toward his damaged thigh. He cut it with a short Reaper hook and accepted the field recording the action because the real target remained elsewhere. A plane reflected the opened palm route and tried to angle toward it. Inverted holy chains caught the sanctified edge and curled it aside, burning another link under the bracer. The Genesis Core circulation stayed stable under the pain. He held the sword low and let Aurelion's field believe the next cut would defend his leg.

Malgoryth's Ghorvath rose.

The War-Crown struck Judicael from below with a heavy rift-weighted blow aimed at the same lower guard route he had been attacking since his descent. Aurelion caught the axe and pushed down with severance pressure. The lower reference route in Judicael trembled under the impact. The cracked halo spoke dragged as correction crossed the damaged side. That was the moment.

Noctis fired shadow-split arrowheads into all three witness planes at once.

The arrowheads carried false Genesis Core pressure shifts, each one close enough to the real circulation to demand classification. The planes marked them, and Aurelion's recognition began burning through them. Lightning struck the correction hinge before that classification finished. The hinge brightened and skipped half a rotation. Frost touched the halo correction line linked to the cracked spoke, stiffening the delayed portion while Malgoryth's impact still shook Judicael. An iron-marrow drillpoint drove into the return node behind the upper plane. The drillpoint cracked immediately, but its broken head wedged inside the node long enough to make the data route stutter. A Reaper hook dragged the nearest border severance line downward. An abyssal chain pulled the hinge sideways by two inches and burned along its outer links. Inverted holy chains caught the sanctified backlash from the hinge and held it away from the opened palm route.

Blood-fire ran across the sword edge and chest armor, burning residue before the witness planes could reuse it.

Noctis drove the shortened sword into the hinge-reference overlap and released a narrow blood-cutting pressure through the blade.

It was not Sanguinastra. He kept the named technique held back because Aurelion had already begun guarding for it after Chapter 906, and because the target was not a divine support chain but a local field mechanism. The pressure he released was smaller, practical, and routed through the Genesis Core as a cutting contact against hinge, return node, and Judicael reference. The blade entered the overlap at the instant the lower guard trembled. The witness planes tried to turn the cut into evidence. The return node tried to send the angle back to the halo. The iron-marrow drillpoint wedged deeper and broke fully. Lightning disturbed the hinge again. Frost held the delayed correction just long enough.

The cluster collapsed.

It did not shatter outward. Three planes lost synchronization, folded against their own borders, and failed to agree on Noctis's position. The blade-angle plane marked his sword too late. The chain-tension plane marked the abyssal chain after he had already severed the burned links. The Genesis Step plane recorded pressure that no longer matched his actual movement. The border between them loosened, opening a narrow gap in the compressed field. Judicael's lower reference route trembled and sent a brief vibration back through Aurelion's guard. The halo corrected, but the cracked spoke dragged behind the clean spokes, and for a fraction the gap remained usable.

Noctis moved through it.

The cost landed before he cleared the cluster. The sword edge thinned where the narrow blood-cutting pressure had met active holy geometry. The Reaper hook that dragged the severance border was caught by the collapsing plane and erased. He burned the contaminated fragments and reclaimed only what he could safely take. The abyssal chain used on the hinge lost its outer links and recoiled into his wrist with enough force to split skin beneath the bracer. The opened palm tore wider from the recoil, blood sliding across the gauntlet and chest seam before Arsenal pulled it back into the route. The left shoulder root flared, and for a moment the old Academy wound felt as if the first divine strike had landed again. His thigh buckled when the damaged muscle took weight during the movement, and Sovereign Blood Aegis had to divide pressure between the soul-vessel scar, the sword arm, the opened palm, and the leg. Genesis Vessel sealed what it could and left the rest painful.

The gap carried him out of the local cluster, not out of the field.

Aurelion adapted again before Noctis could expand the collapse.

The Radiant Judge did not waste force trying to restore the broken three-plane section. Judicael's inner channel brightened, and the surviving compressed planes began folding toward the blade-scepter. The broken planes bent first, not repaired, but repurposed. Their remaining witness surfaces slid toward Judicael's lower guard. Severance borders detached from their positions around Noctis and laid themselves along the weapon's guard and shaft. The Chain of Law segments that had formed anchor frames pulled inward and became barbed ridges along the lower guard. Return nodes moved toward the blade-scepter's inner channel, condensing into small mirror plates around the weapon. Bell-like pressure gathered near the guard, using the compressed field's witness rhythm as a vibration layer. Halo correction no longer fed the planes as separate geometry alone. It fed them into Judicael.

Noctis saw the premise change.

The field was not failing. It was being folded into the weapon.

Aurelion had taken the compressed trial that Noctis disrupted locally and turned its surviving mechanisms into a weapon-field around Judicael. The witness planes became mirror plates along the blade-scepter. The border severance lines became sharpened edges around guard and shaft. Anchor remnants became binding hooks and ridges. The Bell-like vibration from the field's correction rhythm settled near the lower guard. Judicael's point began carrying not only holy execution pressure but the recorded angles of Noctis's sword, Reapers, chains, Genesis Step pressure, Aegis routes, and recent cuts. The next chapter's danger formed in front of him before the current one released him.

Malgoryth struck at that moment, trying to break Aurelion's guard while the field folded.

Ghorvath's Rift Cleave cut across the side of Judicael, black-red pressure dragging at the forming mirror plates. Aurelion met the axe with the weapon-field half-condensed. Several mirror plates cracked before seating fully. One severance edge misaligned along the lower shaft. The Bell-like pressure stuttered, then resumed with a harsher rhythm. Malgoryth did not aim at the plates for Noctis. He struck Judicael because Aurelion's weapon was reorganizing and the guard carried strain. The effect still helped Noctis by shaking the last planes that remained around him. It also sent a rift wake through the gap he had planned to use, forcing him to choose a worse escape.

The remaining planes rotated inward.

One border cut across his sword arm route, forcing him to shorten the blade and bring it close to the chest. Another plane tried to capture the pressure gathering beneath Genesis Step before he could enter the movement. A mirror surface marked the sealed soul-vessel scar and reflected the Aegis pressure surrounding it. The reflection began to brighten, which meant Aurelion could use it as a timing point if Noctis left it exposed for another breath. He burned blood-fire over the sternum plate to distort the residue, but the mirror surface still tracked the reinforcement route. A severance border slid toward the opened palm from the opposite side.

Malgoryth's axe struck Judicael again, and the entire folding structure shook.

Noctis used the shake.

A short Reaper formed near his right hip and struck the mirror surface tracking the soul-vessel scar, not to break it, but to make it flash. The flash disrupted the timing of the border aimed at his palm. An inverted holy chain caught the border's sanctified edge and twisted it outward. An abyssal chain wrapped his own waist and pulled him low through the space beneath two folding planes. Genesis Step opened at knee height, a bad route with a severance edge grazing its upper half and rift pressure crossing its lower half. He entered anyway, because every cleaner exit had already been marked or folded into Judicael.

The step tore across his body.

The severance edge cut the upper arm, reopening part of the sword-arm wound from Radiant Crucifixion. The rift pressure scraped along the outer thigh armor and nearly pulled his damaged leg sideways. The abyssal chain around his waist burned under both pressures but completed the pull before snapping. His opened palm hit one of the folding plane borders as he passed, and the burn traveled up the wrist until Aegis closed the route. Crimson Arsenal rebuilt the gauntlet around the hand without closing the wound fully, because Genesis Vessel still needed that route accessible for repair pressure. The soul-vessel scar stayed sealed. That mattered more than the blood loss.

He cleared the last local plane cluster as it folded behind him.

Noctis dropped beneath Judicael's weapon line with blood running down the sword arm, one Reaper reforming near his left shoulder, two smaller partial blades trying to form near his hips, and both chains burned short along his forearms. The Genesis Core circulation remained stable but pressured, carrying injury, repair, Aegis reinforcement, Arsenal rebuilding, Reaper formation, chain recovery, and the next Genesis Step route through one foundation. He did not have room to breathe fully. He had room to look up.

Above him, the surviving planes finished folding into Judicael's guard and shaft.

Mirror plates tightened along the lower guard where Malgoryth's strikes had left stress. Severance edges settled along the weapon's borders. Barbed anchor ridges formed where Radiant Crucifixion's spear remnants had been drawn inward. Bell-like pressure gathered in a compact ring beneath the guard, vibrating through the shaft instead of the surrounding planes. Witness surfaces condensed along the blade-scepter in layered plates, each one angled to record and answer movement near the weapon itself. Aurelion's halo connected directly to that new weapon-field, the cracked spoke still dragging but no longer the only source of correction. Malgoryth pulled Ghorvath back for another strike, black-red war pressure massing along the axe head, while Aurelion lowered Judicael with the compressed trial now wrapped around the weapon.

Noctis steadied the shortened sword in his right hand and moved under the first line of the blade-scepter's descent, no longer surrounded by the original planes but now beneath a weapon carrying their judgment surfaces, severance borders, anchor ridges, and Bell pressure in its guard and shaft.
