*~Gabrielle's POV~*
The Wolf Guards led me back to the High House, promising they'd continue the search for my sisters. I nodded along, but my mind was far away—filled with questions I couldn't answer and fears I didn't want to name.
My thoughts were spinning. My sisters were still missing, even after I had entrusted them to Alaric. The book I'd placed all my hope in the one that was supposed to hold the truth about me, about everything...turned out to be nothing but a storybook. Or so it seemed.
The "Child Book of the White Wolf."
I let out a scream, raw and frustrated, but even that didn't ease the pressure in my chest. It felt like my emotions were trapped inside me, clawing at my ribs but unable to escape. I sat back on the bed, running my hands through my hair.
"You are stressing me out so much," I muttered at the book lying innocently on the sheets. "Mother wouldn't have hidden you away if you were just some useless children's story."
