Chapter 49 - Episode 49: The Person He Can’t Escape

The next morning, Maya didn't get the chance to see Adrian at all.

And the words he said last night kept looping in her mind…

"They told me to stay away from you."

"I'm scared I'll lose you."

Those lines were burning inside her more than anything else.

Maya and Emila were heading home together.

They sat quietly in the car — or rather, Maya sat quietly.

Emila kept glancing at her, confused.

Just yesterday, Maya was smiling like she had found a new world.

But today…

she looked like a storm had swallowed her completely.

Emila wanted to ask, but something told her—

maybe Maya needed silence… not questions.Adrian Arrives at the Hotel

Meanwhile, Adrian reached a high-end hotel on the other side of the city.

He walked into a private lounge.

And there she was—

Shiya.

The past he wanted to bury forever.

The moment she saw him, Shiya smiled sweetly.

But Adrian's expression was icy cold.

Anger was written all over his face.

"What is this, Shiya?" Adrian asked sharply.

"Why are you disturbing me again?"

Shiya slowly walked toward him, her heels clicking softly on the marble floor.

She reached out, gently touching the fabric of his coat like old times.

But Adrian immediately stepped back and pushed her hand away.

"Don't," he warned.

"What the hell is going on in your head?"

Shiya smirked, turning away to pick up a glass of wine.

She sipped it gracefully and said—

"What's wrong, Adrian? I'm your fiancée. Why are you so distant?"

Adrian's jaw tightened.You're my ex-fiancée, Shiya."

She turned back, her smile fading into something wounded-but-possessive.

"Adrian, you used to look at me with warmth," she said softly.

"What happened to you? Why are you acting like a stranger?"

Adrian didn't let his guard drop for even a second.

"Just answer one thing," he said sternly.

"Why did you call me? Why drag me here?"

Shiya swirled the wine in her glass, a lazy smirk returning to her lips.

"I wanted to see you," she whispered.

"To check whether my Adrian is still the same… or if he's changed."

Her eyes burned with jealousy.

But Adrian didn't react.

His heart was with someone else now.Maya's Night

Maya finally reached home.

The moment she entered her room, she grabbed her phone and dialed Adrian's number.

Ring.

Ring.

Ring.

No answer.

She tried again.

And again.

Still nothing.

Maya's heartbeat grew heavier.

"Where are you, Adrian…?" she whispered.

Hundreds of thoughts attacked her at once—

Who was calling him?

Who did he go to meet?

Why is he avoiding my calls?

Is he in trouble?

Is he hurt?

And the worst question of all—Is he pulling away from me?

Her chest tightened at the thought.

Outside, the night deepened.

Inside, Maya's fear grew louder.

And Adrian…

was standing right in front of the woman who wanted to drag him back into a life he'd escaped.
