Chapter 26 - Underground... where the truth was buried.

Inside a hotel.

Diego sat alone in his room.

He uploaded several videos using fake accounts.

Then he grabbed his phone and called his smartwatch, trying to trace its location.

Thanks to his computer skills, it didn't take long.

He pinpointed the signal.

A remote area.

Then the truth hit him.

An cement factory outside the city.

"An cement factory?!"

"Are they really holding mutants inside a government facility?!"

"…That means the government itself is involved in this!"

Diego said it while scrolling fast on his laptop.

Then he noticed something else.

The factory was semi-private.

Operated by Victor Morelli.

"This guy again…"

"Alright. Now everything makes sense."

He leaned back, thinking.

"This place has heavy security. No doubt about it."

"I need a perfect plan to get inside."

"But this is extremely dangerous."

"I need to scout the place first."

He searched the web for anything related to the factory.

Somehow, he got his hands on the facility layout—and more internal data.

"Good…"

"This is exactly what I need."

Focused. Sharp.

Next, he worked on copying a worker's access card so he could sneak in disguised as an employee.

After forging one successfully, a new problem appeared.

The uniform.

Their suits were custom-made. Factory-only issue.

"Damn…"

"That's a problem now."

He searched everywhere. No uniforms for sale.

Then—an idea hit him.

"Why not buy a regular suit and modify it at a tailor?"

"…It's worth a try."

He nodded to himself.

Mutant Village — Operations

Headquarters

The team went out to prepare.

Only Khaled stayed behind, questioning Almy about Victor Morelli.

"Can you track his location?" Khaled asked.

"Not yet," Almy replied. "No new movements. Just the places where the matches were held."

"Then we don't move," Khaled said.

"Not until you find the prisoners—or locate him."

"Why not now?" Almy asked.

"If he senses a threat and exposes us, things will get ugly," Khaled answered. "Especially since the government backs him."

"…You're right," Almy said.

Khaled walked down the corridor toward the equipment room.

Inside were Connor, Ethan, Boris, Simon, and Hana.

"So, are we rolling now?" Simon asked, lighthearted.

"Where to?" Connor added.

"We don't have a destination yet," Khaled replied. "We're waiting for Almy's signal."

"Seriously?!" Boris said, losing enthusiasm. "I thought we were leaving already."

Hana looked at Khaled.

"Are we taking a plane?"

"No," Khaled said. "They're still in the country. We'll use a van."

"A van?!" Hana exclaimed.

"Since when do we have a van?!" Simon shouted.

"I think Mousta brought it," Khaled said. "He found it in a forest. It was pure junk. He fixed it with help from the villagers."

"It was trash and now it's scrap," Connor smirked."Same thing."

Simon and Boris laughed lightly.

The team headed outside.

Khaled stayed behind. Then Mousta arrived.

"How's it going?" Mousta asked. "Got a mission?"

"Mousta—yeah," Khaled said. "But we're waiting for Almy's signal."

They stood together, watching the team. Connor, Ethan, Simon, and Boris were loud. Laughing. Full of youthful energy.

"Looks like the boys are excited," Mousta said.

"They're laughing at your van, lol " Khaled chuckled.

"Really?" Mousta smiled. "They're still young. They don't understand the value of things—especially these days."

Khaled fell silent.

Arms crossed.

Eyes on his team.

Thoughts flooded his mind.

What if I lose them? Like I lost my family…

What if the village is discovered?

What if they're all killed in front of me—just like my family?

What if I'm the only one left alive… again?

His heart started racing.

His breathing grew heavy.

Tension wrapped around him.

Mousta noticed the change.

"Hey…"

"Are you okay?"

"Huh?" Khaled snapped back. "Yeah… yeah. I'm fine."

"Your hand is shaking," Mousta said.

"It's cold," Khaled replied quickly, hiding it.

Inside, he spoke to himself.

" Calm down, Khaled. They're just thoughts.... Not real."

Cement Factory

The main gate stood open. Heavy security everywhere.

A workers' bus arrived and stopped outside.

Workers stepped out one by one, entering through the gate.

IDs were checked.

Clearance granted.

Among them was Diego. Disguised as a worker. Purple-and-blue uniform.

Yellow helmet.

He moved calmly. Confidently.

Like he belonged there.

A guard checked his card. Then waved him in.

Inside, Diego scanned the structure.

"Alright…"

"Now I find my watch."

He tracked the signal on his phone.

It led him to a storage section.

But something was wrong.

The signal came from an empty area.

Then he realized it.

Underground.

"This is the hardest part," Diego thought. "I need to find the entrance downstairs—and get in without being seen."

Then he spotted guards. Victor Morelli's men. Recognizable by their uniforms.

They exited through a small door in a corner.

Diego headed straight for it. He slipped inside. Walked down a long, narrow corridor.

Carefully opened another door.

Stairs.

He descended to the basement.

And froze.

A massive area.

Filled with rooms.

It looked like a high-security prison.

As he moved forward, he noticed two sections.

Regular prison cells.

And isolated rooms—far apart. Soundproofed. Glass walls. You could see inside.

Footsteps echoed. Guards approaching.

"Breakfast time, guys!"

"Yeah, let's go!"

Diego ducked behind the stairs. They passed right by him. Didn't notice a thing.

They entered an elevator and went up.

"An elevator too…" Diego whispered.

The place was loaded with cameras.

Diego didn't realize it.

Every move was being recorded.

But luck was on his side.

The monitoring guard was asleep.

Diego turned around.

"Perfect," he thought.

"It's breakfast time. I've got at least five minutes."

"I need to see everything—and get out before the next shift arrives."

He moved fast. First, the regular cells.

Real prisoners. Orange uniforms.

Mutants.

He slowed down.

Names.

ID cards.

Warning signs on the walls.

First room.

A young girl. Curled up against the wall. Asleep.

Name: Dalele.

Age: 14.

Ability Warning:

A destructive sneeze capable of causing a one-square-meter explosion.

Second room.

A man lying on his bed. Staring at the ceiling. Silent.

Name: Samir.

Age: 28.

Ability Warning: Insect control. (Ants. Bees. Wasps. Locusts).

Third room.

A man sleeping.

Name: Samado.

Age: 27.

Ability Warning: Destructive scream.

(Radius 10 meters).

Then the fourth room.

Diego stopped.

Inside was Soyo Zaki.

"He's here…" Diego

Soyo was practicing martial movements. Hands cuffed. Legs chained with heavy restraints.

Mid-combo, he threw a powerful punch.

BOOM.

The sound echoed inside the room.

The metal wall dented inward.

Outside, Diego read the data.

Name: Soyo Zaki.

Age: 23.

Ability Warning:

Superhuman reflexes.

Absolute muscle control.

Can absorb electricity and channel it into combat strikes.

"Wow…" Diego muttered.

"That's insane."

Suddenly— The elevator sound.

"The guards!" Diego hissed.

He bolted for the stairs.

Escaped.

Outside the factory, Diego disappeared into the distance.

Thinking. Planning.

How to come back. How to free them.

Knowing one thing. This would be extremely hard.

Back in his hotel room, a new announcement popped up.

" Matches until the finale " .

Location: a massive cargo ship in open sea.

Audience present—inside a cinema hall.

Diego narrowed his eyes.

"…Alright," he whispered.

"I'll attend."
