Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

Alpha and Subordinate

Marcus sat on the edge of the bed, So-Ra across from him, her posture stiff. Logan was hanging back, leaning against the wall, partially transformed, glaring but obedient.

Marcus: "Detective Han… I need you to understand exactly what's going on. First, I'm a werewolf. That's why I was able to fight Logan and survive his attacks."

So-Ra's eyes, still pulsing softly blue, followed him closely.

So-Ra: "…Alright. I can feel… some of that. The way you move, the way your presence… it's different. Unnatural."

Marcus: "Exactly. Logan—"

Logan: (interrupting, sarcastic) "Oh, yeah, he's the big scary Alpha, right? Bow down to sixteen-year-old Marcus, alpha of the school."

Marcus didn't look at him but continued.

Marcus: "…Logan is also a werewolf. And he's the one who bit you, which is why your body is changing."

So-Ra's face tensed.

So-Ra: "…He bit me? That… that explains a lot."

Marcus: "Now, because of that, you're permanently tied to this-physically, mentally, instinctively. Your wolf instincts will always respond to me as an alpha. If I tell you to stop, go, or act… your body will obey."

So-Ra's eyes flickered, a hint of resentment in them.

So-Ra: "You're telling me… I'm under the command of a sixteen year-old kid?!

Marcus: So, yeah. It's permanent. You don't like it, I get that-but there's no undoing it. The only way you survive this… is to accept it.

Logan: (snickering) "Yeah, welcome to the club, punk. Now even the cop's gotta take orders from the Alpha. Heh."

So-Ra narrowed her eyes at him, her fists clenched.

So-Ra: "And you… you're just going to let him talk to me like that?

Marcus: (firm) "Logan's not a threat. He's here to help you adapt, and his role is to listen to me. That's it. Nothing else."

Logan rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath but remained seated.

So-Ra: (muttering) "…I can't believe I have to take orders from a kid."

Marcus says, "I know it feels weird, but for now, this is the safest way for you. Logan will help guide you, but you obey me. Period. That's the rule."

Logan growled low in frustration, blue eyes flickering with a partial wolf instinct Marcus had taught him to keep in check, yet he remained by Marcus' side, grudgingly submissive.

Logan: "Fine, Alpha. Whatever you say. Don't expect me to like it, though."

So-Ra looked between them, torn but slowly realizing she had no choice. Her body and instincts already responded to Marcus in ways she didn't fully understand—but her mind resisted every bit of it.

So-Ra: "…Alright. I'll… try to follow your lead. But I don't have to like it."

Marcus: nods. "You don't. You just have to do it." Logan muttered something else under his breath, but for once, he stayed silent and obedient, his role as Marcus's subordinate painfully clear to everyone in the room.
