Chapter 26 - Chapter 26

Guiding the Beta

Marcus sat on the edge of his bed, the dim light from the desk casting shadows across the room. Logan leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his eyes flicking with annoyance and residual hostility.

Marcus: "From now on, Logan. it's your job to guide So-Ra. Teach her to control herself like a proper werewolf and a proper subordinate."

Logan's jaw clenched, yellow-to-blue eyes narrowing.

Logan: "Why me? Why should I be the one to babysit her?"

Marcus: "Because you bit her. That makes it your responsibility. You don't like it? Too bad. You obey my rules."

Logan: (snorting) "Yeah, yeah… Alpha this, Alpha that. I'm thrilled."

Marcus ignored him, pulling out So-Ra's phone number and handing it to Logan.

Marcus: "Here, call her. Coordinate with her. You leave my house, you leave my sight, you report back. Understood?"

Logan growled low in his throat but nodded, reaching for the number.

Logan: "Fine. But don't expect me to treat her like… anything more than a project."

Marcus: (smiling faintly) "Good. Just get it done."

Marcus's Thoughts: Expanding the Pack

As Logan and So-Ra went downstairs, Marcus relaxed back onto his bed, letting his mind wander. His pack—his people who came under his influence—had started first with Logan, now So-Ra. He pondered how he might expand it further.

Recruit others like Vasco and Jace, maybe other students with more potential or those in need of protection. His werewolf side would enforce loyalty, and the rules could keep everyone in line. If he trained them properly. he would have a small network, a proper pack. Protect his territory. Protect his friends.

He envisioned hierarchy: Logan and So-Ra as beta-level enforcers, then others he might bring in as omegas or trainees. Everyone in the pack would have a place and a role, with him as the alpha, invisible but in charge.

And if anyone dared get in my way… they'd have to answer to me. For certain.

Cut to Logan and So-Ra

Outside, So-Ra sat in her cop car, her hands clutched around the wheel, still trying to get used to her glowing blue eyes and strange instincts. Against the passenger side, Logan leaned, his irritation evident but contained.

So-Ra: "You know… I still don't like taking orders from him."

Logan: grumbling, "Yeah, well, you don't get to choose. Same deal for me. Alpha's rules."

So-Ra: "…You're serious about this whole guidance thing?"

Logan: (snapping) "I have to be. He told me to. He has the power over me. I'll do it—begrudgingly—but you better not make me regret it."

With a heaved breath, So-Ra clutched the wheel tighter. Logan remained faintly active with his partial transformation; tense, but the obedience Marcus demanded kept him in check.

So-Ra: "…I guess… we're stuck with this… Alpha."

Logan rolled his eyes but didn't argue further, the growl of irritation subdued by the rules Marcus had instilled.

Logan: "Yeah, yeah… Alpha. Got it." They drove off silently, both their minds aware of the strange pull Marcus had on each of them, the night air thick with possibilities.
