Instincts, Interference, and an Alpha's Hunger
Day Two – The Wolf Moves First
Marcus's Morning
Marcus woke before sunup, pulse already steady, breath even. His body felt lighter, stronger, more in tune with his wolf than it had all week.
He stepped into the backyard behind his house, cracking his knuckles, and began the routine.
100 push-ups.
100 sit-ups.
100 squats.
10 km run.
For a normal human, suicide.
For a werewolf Alpha consuming raw red steak every two hours?
Warm-up.
He finished the first set barely sweating, regeneration pumping through him. His fridge was packed-raw ribeye, raw sirloin, raw ground beef because the more he trained, the hungrier he became.
Marcus wiped his mouth with his thumb, having just torn into a chunk of raw steak.
Marcus: "This diet is insane… but it works."
His wolf purred contentedly.
He felt himself changing.
Growing.
Hardening.
He then checked his phone and saw the message from Logan:
"Bro… So-Ra's wolf is acting WEIRD. Hurry.
Marcus's eyes flashed red.
At the Park
Logan was pacing around like a paranoid raccoon, hands in his hair, tail practically twitching if he had one.
So-Ra stood ten feet away in a crouch, eyes glowing faint amber, breaths long and slow.
Not human breaths.
Wolf breaths.
Logan: "Marcus—bro—SHE—IS—BROKEN—"
Marcus: "Logan. Stop yelling."
Logan's wolf immediately submitted.
So-Ra, however…
Her wolf was different.
The moment Marcus stepped closer—
So-Ra's wolf bowed.
Not to the ground.
Toward him.
Her knees bent. Shoulders dipped forward. Her head lowered instinctively. Her human mind fought it—her jaw clenched, fingers digging into the grass.
She whispered, her voice layered with her wolf's tone:
So-Ra (wolf-muted): "Alpha. you are. stressed. Hungry. Overworking. Must. assist."
Marcus stiffened.
Marcus: "Assist what?"
Her wolf pointed.
"At your future… territory."
Logan: "OH MY GOD SHE'S TRYNA BE HELPFUL—"
Marcus glared.
Logan promptly shut up.
So-Ra stood with her wolf full in control. Eyes glowing, breathing calm, instinct drowning her human hesitations.
So-Ra(wolf): "Alpha… you need a base. A safe place. Somewhere private to command and gather. I… assist. I have… connections."
Logan facepalmed aggressively.
Logan: "BRO STOP OFFERING HIM THINGS WITHOUT YOUR HUMAN PERMISSION—SHE'S GONNA GET US ARRESTED."
Marcus stepped closer, his voice low, his eyes softening.
Marcus: "So-Ra. Your wolf is right. I do need that. But I need you to approve what your wolf is doing."
So-Ra blinked rapidly as her human mind surged upward.
Her glowing eyes faded back to dark brown.
She took a deep breath, nearly stumbling.
So-Ra: "Damn it—Logan—why didn't you stop me?!"
Logan: "ME?! YOU WERE ON FULL WOLF MODE. I tried! Your wolf slapped my wolf emotionally!"
Marcus: "Both of you. Quiet."
Both wolves submitted at once, shoulders dropping.
Marcus: "So-Ra, I'm building something. A real pack. A real territory. And yeah—I need a place to operate from. A base. A bar. Something that looks normal but with a private back area for pack business."
So-Ra rubbed her forehead.
So-Ra: "I can… I can help. I know someone from my precinct who's been trying to sell a run-down bar. It's cheap. No one goes there. Backroom is huge, and most cops avoid that area. It's perfect for… you know…"
Marcus: "Pack gatherings."
So-Ra (soft): "Yeah."
Logan: "See? This is why Marcus made me train you. Your wolf is way too eager-she acts on her own like she's trying to get employee of the month."
So-Ra: "Shut. Up."
Her wolf whispered inside her, louder than Logan could ever hear:
"Alpha must grow, Alpha must lead, we must build."
She shivered.
Marcus: "We'll go see the bar after training. But first—your routine. Both of you."
Logan groaned like he'd been shot.
Training – Day 2
This time, Marcus ran beside them, matching pace easily. Logan and So-Ra began sweating, panting, pushing themselves harder because their Alpha was watching.
But something changed today:
Logan and So-Ra's wolves synchronized perfectly.
Not just running beside each other—
but mirroring.
Pacing.
Breathing.
Bonding.
Marcus trotted ahead for a moment, then looked back.
Marcus (thinking):
Good. They are stabilizing each other. Pack cohesion is forming. Quicker than anticipated.
Logan tripped over his own foot.
Logan: "BRO STOP STARING AT US WHILE RUNNING IT'S INTIMIDATING."
Marcus: "Run faster."
Their wolves, not their mouths, responded:
Yes, Alpha.
Both sprinted.
After Training
They collapsed back on the grass again, their bodies buzzing with regeneration.
So-Ra wiped the sweat off her face.
So-Ra: "Marcus… about the bar. I can set up a meeting tonight. The owner trusts cops."
Marcus nodded.
Marcus: "Good. We need someplace safe and quiet. A real pack territory." Logan sat up, hungry, annoyed, but suddenly serious. Logan: "Marcus… when you talk like that… it feels like something big is coming." Marcus's eyes glowed red. Marcus: "It is." A long silence fell between them. Logan's wolf shivered. So-Ra's wolf bowed. And Marcus's wolf growled in approval.
