THUD!

Ash stepped in through the door, and his eyes landed on both Ajax and Xavier, who turned toward him as he entered.

He smiled awkwardly, making his way to his side of the room. He then sat on his bed, posture uneasy.

He looked toward them, noting how they were focused on him as though awaiting an explanation.

Ash laughed, brushing the back of his head while sighing.

He leaned back, taking a pillow and using it for support, sitting there in slight mimicry of someone seated on a chair.

"Okay," he said, slightly hesitant. "How do I start this?"

{ELSEWHERE}

In the comfort of the night, dressed in black and walking down an alleyway, with a torch raised to the front with its light leading the way, it was Wednesday.

Her movement paused when a dead end obstructed her.

Stationed there, glowing gold with rust, was a statue; more accurately, one of Edgar Allan.

Wednesday moved the torch to his face without a hint of reaction, as though mocking him.

She shifted the torch to the book he was holding, then climbed onto the base of his rusted golden feet.

She touched the book's pages, giving no hint or show of respect. Maybe that was her way of showing it. Because after all, she was an Addams.

She took out a black notebook, flipping through and touching its pages.

It took a second, maybe a minute longer, before she pulled a black pen from her pocket, focusing and writing a few words on its page.

She descended from the statue's feet, torch raised toward it.

Then, slowly, almost invisible to human eyes, a smirk embraced her lips.

She turned, looking at the statue that now stood before her.

And raised her hand.

TICK! TICK! TICK!

She snapped her fingers three times, and the statue came to life like a contraption. The stoned bird on Edgar Allan's hand moved its wings, causing the statue to shift backward, revealing what seemed to be a hidden room.

It was dark, but the darkness was far too beautiful for the girl who stood there.

So, she walked in.

DOO!

Unfazed, as the stoned entrance shut behind her.

{ELSEWHERE}

"So, let me get this straight," Ajax said, staring at Ash, who was now eating popcorn, eyes immersed in the pleasures of the game on his phone. "Her grandmother, the same person who's your guardian, made you and the goth girl get engaged… and you agreed?"

Ash only nodded, taking another handful of popcorn from his plate.

"It's more complicated than it sounds," Ash said, exiting the game while chewing the popcorn still in his mouth.

Xavier, who was seated next to them, just folded his arms, listening to everything.

"It's like… think of it as a promise our families made a long time ago, before I was even born."

"So, it's arranged?" Xavier asked.

"Yes," Ash shot back, smiling as he nodded at Xavier.

"Damn," Ajax said, shaking his head. "I kinda feel sorry for you. I know arranged marriages are normal in big clans, but still, man… at least both of you are planning on breaking it."

Ash slightly giggled, ironically thinking that breaking the engagement was the only truthful thing he'd said.

Xavier sighed, almost uttering something.

But his attempt instantly paused when both his and Ajax's phones started ringing with the same ringtone.

Both their eyes shot to each other, sharing a knowing expression.

Xavier pulled his phone out, answering while drawing it to his ear.

"Yes," he said, listening attentively to the voice on the other side. Then his eyes widened, bright enough for Ajax to notice. "Okay… yeah, we're on our way."

He hung up, staring at both Ajax and Ash.

"Principal Weems is looking for us," Xavier said. "Both me and Ajax."

Ash frowned, clearly bewildered as he took another handful of popcorn.

"This late?" Ash asked as Ajax cleared his throat.

"Yeah…" Ajax added, "She did tell me, I mean, us, yesterday… that…"

"That she would need us tonight," Xavier completed, causing Ash to almost giggle. "We forgot."

Xavier stood, making his way to the door as Ajax followed.

Ash just sat there, watching as they exited.

Ajax glanced back, nodding at Ash, who was the one to nod first.

THUD!

The door shut, closing in the endless, curious thoughts that flooded the immortal mind.

Ash had extraordinary hearing, one he knew was far greater than ordinary.

He clearly heard what was said on Xavier's phone call.

He heard who it was. And he heard what the person had announced.

A sentence that shook the very nature he thought was forever calm.

A single sentence.

"The sanctum has been breached."
