~~~ [START]
The rain poured downward from the unusually darkened sky, as a shirtless teen who looked far too beautiful to be considered ordinary carried the body of an unconscious girl dressed in full black.
Wednesday's eyes suddenly shot open, as most of the rain falling on her face was blocked by Ash's naked chest.
"You were bleeding," were her only words, as her eyes landed on the blood across Ash's chest.
"Shit, you're awake," he said, still walking forward, arms carrying her. "Yeah, ran into Frankenstein while you were taking a nap," he laughed while saying it. "I guess you really needed me after all, didn't you?"
Wednesday did not reply. And the silence was only broken by the sound of raindrops hitting the flour.
"Where are we going…"
"Ooh shit," Ash said, completely interrupting her. "Hoho, you gotta see this." He annoyingly placed her on the ground, pointing toward the floor.
Wednesday turned and her immediately eyes widened.
"So basically, the monster guy found us in the cottage," Ash said, smiling brightly. "After biting me and getting bored, it started raining, so he decided to run, because for some unknown reason, he seems to really hate water." He laughed when he said it. "I carried you, thinking of going back to Nevermore, but that's when Thing found the monster's footprints."
Ash brushed his hair, wringing out the water that had soaked into it like a sponge because of its curly nature. "We followed them, and here we are."
"So, the monster is…" Wednesday attempted to speak, but was once again interrupted.
"Yep, Frankenstein is human." Ash laughed loudly, and even Wednesday narrowed her eyes, sparing him a glare. "Nah, this is peak," he said, holding his gut.
Wednesday crouched near the monster's footsteps, right where they turned into human feet. It was unmistakable; even the walking patterns had a resemblance.
"We should track it…"
DOO!
The sound of Ash's body collapsing unconscious onto the wet floor interrupted Wednesday, as if fate itself had decided it.
"Ash?!" she turned, eyebrows raised, and for the first time in many years, showed hints of emotion.
Confusion filled their depths like fuel, perhaps proving to be a catalyst to something far greater.
{ELSEWHERE IN A DIFFERENT DIMENSION}
Ash's eyes immediately snapped open, his orbs adapting to the atmosphere in what seemed like less than a second.
His breathing hitched as he noticed the decayed forge, the smell of rot, or perhaps the scent of dried bones.
He turned, searching for something, heart skipping, body trembling inwardly from fear.
Then she appeared, out of nowhere like a ghoul.
One second standing twenty feet away, and the next, an arm's length.
She was pale, and her hair fell downward in two golden ponytails.
"Wednesday…" Ash almost spat, but his mouth was sealed shut by a force he couldn't question.
The girl walked closer to him with elegant grace.
Their eyes locked, but he was unable to look away, even if he tried.
And then she got close, close enough for him to feel her cold, dead breath bounce onto his face.
Then she leaned nearing for a kiss, their lips less than an inch apart, and her hand now lifting up his cheek.
Yet the kiss didn't meet. Instead, her breath carried clear, direct words, words he truly wished he never understood.
"Lucian," she whispered, breath brushing against him, overwhelmed by a constant feel of warm unknown intimacy. "Why did you abandon me?"
{ELSEWHERE}
Ash's eyes snapped open as his upper body launched upward.
He stared around, noting he was within the circumference of a room. His breathing was loud, far louder than any mortal could hold.
His gaze moved around him until he noticed Wednesday standing there, watching everything.
His heart was pounding too erratically, so he moved a hand to his chest, feeling its rhythm.
It took some time, perhaps a minute too long, before his breathing steadied and his focus returned.
"You were dead," Wednesday finally said, looking directly at him. "Your heart hasn't been beating for an hour." She continued, still observing his stunned expression. "Does that always happen?"
Ash only shook his head, his breathing still stabilizing.
Then it finally hit him. He turned his eyes downward, noticing that his clothes had completely changed, from torn pants and no shirt to clean clothes and what seemed to be fresh underwear.
His eyes turned to her in utter shock.
"What?" she asked, unfazed. "I didn't touch you," she said while walking toward the door. "Xavier and the nurses did."
But he caught a grin when she said it, one nearly invisible.
Wednesday moved halfway out the door until she suddenly paused, glancing back at him, slightly hesitant.
"I'm leaving for the Jericho High School marching band in a couple of hours," she said, still standing. "Everyone's going… so I'll allow it if you make yourself useful."
Then she left, leaving Ash to sigh with constant thought. Something truly overwhelming, even for him.
"Allow me… what?" Ash said, lying back in the embrace of the white bedsheets. "I'm not your minion." He giggled to himself, turning his head to the side.
Right on top of the drawer laying there undisturbed was his notebook, the one she had previously stolen. Now returned, beside a small Taco Bell plastic bag, one that Ash predicted would be full of fully black, freshly made tacos.
