"Go to the dance with me," Ash suddenly said, causing Wednesday to glance back at him.

"What?" she asked, perhaps thinking she had misheard him.

"Go to the dance with me," Ash announced, moving to one stone that had a tooth inserted within it, grabbing it, then pulling it out. "You know, like a date?"

"Flattering, but no," Wednesday replied bluntly, taking a plastic bag from her backpack and moving toward him. "Besides, we have to come back here tomorrow to see if we can spot him at night."

"We?" Ash widened his eyes, pointing at himself dramatically. "I'm going to the dance."

Wednesday paused, turned her head, and her orbs lifted and pointed toward him.

"I wasn't asking," she said, grabbing the tooth from his palm and placing it in the plastic bag for further evidence.

"What if I say no?" Ash asked with a smile, almost giggling as he noticed the almost invincible frown on her face. "What… you gonna break the engagement or something? Come on, we both know you wouldn't do that." He shook his head, brushing the knees of his pants. "And what? It's not like you're gonna go spotting with four eyes over there; you'll literally get killed." His giggles broke, hand raised, pointing at Eugene's shadow, which appeared to be picking its boogers.

"Get to the point," Wednesday cut in, eyes turning to him.

"Listen," he said, noticing the slight narrowing in her eyes, "be my date to the dance, and I promise I'll go with you to whatever danger you're planning to go to the next day." He smiled. "It's a win-win."

"Why?" she asked, walking closer, so close that he unknowingly had to step back. "What do you gain?"

Ash shrugged his shoulders, eyebrows slightly raised.

"I don't know," he said, diverting his gaze while moving to her side. "I gain you…"

She paused monumentally, clearly taken aback, but her expression remained stony and unreactive.

"What?" Ash asked, noticing her sudden halt. "First time getting asked out on a date or something?"

{ELSEWHERE}

Boats slammed atop the water as tides from the ocean drifted them around at monstrous speeds.

"Raise the anchor!" shouted an old woman, her posture bent downward from age, yet even in the monstrous storm, her stance still held elegant grace.

"My Queen," one guard, drenched by the ocean and rain, stepped forward. "The anchor is broken," he said, causing the woman to click her tongue in frustration.

She then turned completely, ignoring him.

"Ask the forge to make another one," the same lad said, as though he had gotten used to the unspoken commands given by the old woman he called leader.

DOO!

The woman opened the interior door, causing the outward storm to fling it.

And with elegant grace, as she entered, as if controlled by an unstoppable force, the door slowly slammed shut all by itself.

The old woman sighed, eyes staring at one point as her body moved forward.

Right there, stationed only a foot's length from where she stood, was a covered mirror. Its glass was completely obstructed by a bright red cloth with golden undertones woven into it.

SLICK!

She pulled the cloth away, revealing a mirror that reflected the room, but with the absence of her figure.

And around it, right where the image of her body should have been, hovered a cloudlike mist.

"Speak desire and give your price," spoke the mirror, its words sounding like the voices of many.

The old woman hesitated, but not for long. She had long since made her decision.

"I want to capture him," she said, voice confident, words devoid of any halt. "The Immortal."

"Your price is insufficient," the mirror replied almost instantly, voices growing deeper as if time was of the essence.

"Take a thousand of my men," she said without hesitation. "I give you their souls."

"Your price is insufficient," the voice continued, halting after its announcement.

The woman sighed, anger nearly showing on her expression. Hands clenched into fists, eyes almost red, and the veins in her neck nearly popping.

"Give me something," she said, frustration hinted in her voice. "Take as many as you want."

There was a pause, which the old woman knew meant her offer was being considered.

"We shall tell you this," the mirror said, unfazed, voice unaffected. "This fate cannot be set. This fate cannot be altered. In eight falls' brink: heart will meet spear; steel will pierce deep; deeming souls to burn for sin; deeming curse to cause life pending-death."

Then, the mist vanished.

Leaving the old woman to stare at a now visible reflection of herself.

Leaving her to bear witness to the fate coming.

DOO! DOO! DOO!

"My Queen!" A man slammed the door from the outside. "Thousands of men have thrown themselves offshore… they're dying!"

Silence filled the air, disturbed only by the outside noises that overwhelmed the entire atmosphere, as though all men on board had turned to infants.

"Fucking sirens," the woman spat, anger unashamed as she walked toward the exit.

DOO!

Clearly unbothered by the wind that blew in.

{ELSEWHERE}

"Okay, look," Ash said, hands raised, holding Eugene's shoulders. "I got you a dance partner, just… don't mess this up."

"Ash!" a feminine voice called from the back, causing Eugene's eyes to brighten.

"Emily!" Ash shouted back, smiling widely and moving toward her with Eugene following behind.

"I heard you said you wanted to talk about the dance," the girl said, fixing her hair by flicking her head to the side. "So, you finally want to accept my invitation…"

"Emily… listen," Ash cut in before she could finish. "Look, I need a small favor."
