Cossette – Chapter 17
I was in the kitchen, cooking steak and carrots for dinner.
The steak sizzled loudly on the pan, pshhh—pshhh, the sound filling the room while the gas burned underneath it.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I nearly burned everything.
"Shit."
I quickly pulled the steak off the fire and placed it on a plate with the carrots.
I sighed, my mind immediately drifting back to what happened earlier between me and Alaric.
Did Frost send him to flirt with me?
To soften me up?
Make me more… manageable?
Why Alaric, of all people—the man who never even looked at me before—would suddenly flirt with me?
He's Frost's best friend, the heir of a powerful company, just like Frost.
And if you're wondering why he works at Tasty instead of taking over his father's business… well, from what I've heard, he has issues with his dad.
So he chose to work as a manager at Tasty instead.
I set the plate on the table and started eating.
That's when the door opened.
Frost.
He looked at me, then at the food.
"You didn't wait for your husband to have dinner?"
I answered flatly, "I was hungry."
He walked into the kitchen, searching for his plate, then said, "And where is mine?"
"There's an uncooked steak in the fridge. Do it yourself."
I continued eating in silence…
But when I glanced at his face, I nearly burst out laughing.
He looked shocked.
As if thinking, You didn't cook for me?
Seriously? Of course I wouldn't.
"You've changed, Cossette," Frost said coldly, sitting next to me.
"Can I know the reason?"
I shoved the rest of the steak into my mouth in one huge bite—it was way too big, but I needed an excuse to get away from him.
Frost's lips twitched, like he was trying not to smile at the ridiculousness of it.
Wait…
Did he almost smile at me?
What is wrong with these mens today?
I stood up, cheeks full, and mumbled, "I didn't change. I'm just tired. Goodnight."
Then I rushed to my room and slammed the door shut.
Tomorrow at work is going to be… interesting.
