Chapter 259 - Chapter 22: Mom, I'm Still a Kid

"The more I look at this wing, the more it looks like a pigeon's..." Morin muttered, staring at the tattoo on his arm.

He knew it was supposed to be the pure white wing of Heaven.

But no matter how he looked at it, it still felt like a pigeon.

Morin had originally planned to run.

Then the system message arrived, and he changed his mind.

According to the system, that light point was a spatial positioning mark.

And since it was located in St. Michael's Church, its origin and destination were obvious.

One hundred thousand experience points would "purify" it.

One hundred thousand experience points was more than enough to push a profession to Master level.

The system never said experience points had to come from a single profession.

So gathering them wasn't a problem.

Reverse positioning wasn't hard to understand.

Before, the mark locked onto Morin's world.

He had no control.

They could've opened a spatial gate and sent angels over, leaving him completely passive.

Now, though, Morin could open the door himself.

And close it whenever he wanted.

Well-maybe the powerful beings on the other side had ways to interfere.

Either way, this door was a trump card.

One he'd only ever use against demons.

He wasn't brave enough to open it casually.

Inviting a god was easy.

Sending one away was not.

Opening Heaven's Gate at random was suicide.

If he wasn't careful, what came through might not even be an angel.

Or rather-

"Tsk," Morin followed the system's instructions and controlled the angel-wing mark until it vanished.

"A new trump card."

"Now I don't have to worry about Mephisto making a last-ditch move."

At the same time, Morin silently praised the Ancient One.

From what Blackheart had said outside the church, and from the mark Michael left behind, it was obvious.

The Ancient One hadn't just sealed Hell.

He'd sealed Heaven too.

That made sense.

Whether Heaven or Hell, aside from methods and energy types, their essence was the same.

They were foreign dimensions.

In their eyes, humans were nothing but soul resources.

The difference was approach.

One guided gently and wrapped things in kindness.

The other deceived, manipulated, and committed endless evil.

So the Sorcerer Supreme sealed them all.

Prevented Heaven and Hell from interfering too deeply with Earth.

And those were just two out of thousands of dimensions.

Just thinking about it gave Morin a headache.

Sorcerer Supreme wasn't a job for normal people.

"Next..." Morin fell into thought.

Blackheart, the Wind Demon, and the Water Demon had all escaped.

That meant they hadn't obtained any information about Carter.

The plot had completely deviated from the original storyline.

Which was fine.

Morin had never intended to follow it anyway.

But now the question was-

Where would Blackheart get the information?

And how would he obtain the San Venganza contract?

That was the real problem.

"...Wait."

"What does this have to do with me?"

Morin suddenly realized something.

The one who should be worried wasn't him.

It was Mephisto.

Only if Blackheart reached San Venganza, obtained the souls, and fought the Ghost Rider would Mephisto achieve his so-called "win-win."

So all Morin had to do was wait.

Wait and see how Mephisto fed Blackheart the information.

And how he dragged the plot back onto the rails.

With that settled, Morin casually left one of the photos he'd taken on the priest's chest as compensation for knocking him out.

He walked out of the church.

Switched the Universal Police Vehicle into another form.

And flew away.

-

Moments later.

The unconscious priest slowly woke up, rubbing his aching head.

He couldn't quite remember what had happened.

Then he noticed the photo on his chest.

When he looked at it-

"Lord, forgive my sins..." His eyes went wide.

It took him a long moment to react.

He clutched the cross at his chest, closed his eyes, and began praying.

Then he carefully backed out of the church.

He needed to examine this great evil properly.

To determine exactly which parts-

No.

Which places-

Were evil, so he could take targeted countermeasures.

-

"Pant... pant..."

Blackheart ran a long distance before collapsing to rest.

A moment later, the Wind Demon and Water Demon finally caught up.

"You two should go on your own," Blackheart waved weakly. "I'm going back."

The Wind Demon and Water Demon froze.

We followed you all this way to bet on your success.

Power.

Wealth.

And now you're quitting?

We haven't even given up yet!

"I can't," Blackheart said listlessly. "You saw it."

"Earth already has a powerful sorcerer."

"Heaven already set a trap."

"My plan has no chance."

"In front of them, I'm an ant."

"Not even worth noticing."

"So I might as well go back early and cut my losses."

"You don't need to risk your lives with me."

"At least you can keep what you already have."

Blackheart kept talking.

Maybe he was convincing them.

Maybe he was convincing himself.

"But if you go back..." the Water Demon hesitated.

"My father..." Blackheart shuddered.

He remembered Mephisto's rage.

If he returned to Hell, defenseless, punishment was guaranteed.

Betrayal was common among demons.

But a son betraying his father?

That carried the heaviest penalties.

Still, Blackheart said with forced hope,

"I'm still a child."

"Mistakes happen."

"He'll punish me a bit."

"Then forgive me... right?"

The Wind Demon and Water Demon were speechless.

You're still a child?

You're tens of thousands of years old.

Do you even believe that yourself?

At that exact moment, Mephisto arrived.

Just in time to hear the "still a child" line.

He almost choked on his own nonexistent blood.

He didn't care whether Blackheart counted as a child.

He wanted to send him straight to reincarnation.

Make him a real one.

Damn it.

Why is my son this useless?

If he weren't just a projection-

If he actually had blood-

Mephisto would've coughed up a liter on the spot.

How could there be such a useless demon?

And it had to be his son?

Naturally, Mephisto completely forgot that he'd never taught Blackheart anything.

He'd only restricted him.

As a Hell Lord who couldn't die as long as Hell existed, succession never mattered.

Suppressing offspring was perfectly reasonable.

"...Damn it."

Mephisto felt awful.

Going back empty-handed wasn't an option.

Blackheart thought he came to Earth alone.

In reality, Mephisto had paid a heavy price to support him.

If Blackheart returned with nothing-

That meant Mephisto returned with nothing.

After losing so much.

That was unacceptable.

A Hell Lord could not accept a losing deal.

Even if Blackheart returned-

He had to bring the San Venganza souls with him.

With that decision made, Mephisto appeared directly in front of Blackheart.

"Father!" Blackheart froze, then reacted instantly.

He stood up, excited.

"You're here to take me back?"

"I know I was wrong!"

"I'll accept any punishment!"

"I'll wait patiently for you to pass the throne to me!"

The Wind Demon, Water Demon, and Mephisto all went silent.

At a time like this-

You're still thinking about the throne?

Are you stupid?

Or just empty inside?

Mephisto had prepared a long speech.

It got stuck in his throat.

He even coughed lightly.

"Cough... cough."

"You can return."

"But first, get the San Venganza contract."

Blackheart immediately shook his head.

"No! That Earth sorcerer and Heaven are both trying to ambush me!"

"And your Ghost Rider-"

"The Ghost Rider is under my control, you idiot!" Mephisto snapped.

"That sorcerer signed an agreement with me."

"As long as you don't harm humans, he can't touch you."

"And Heaven can't cross freely."

"At most, they'll concentrate the energy of an entire church, attach it to a human, and open a gate."

"Even then, only a four-winged archangel."

"If you still can't bring back the contract and the souls under these conditions-"

"Then you're worthless to me."

"And you can die on Earth."

"No, Father! I was wrong!" Blackheart said hurriedly.

"I repent!"

"I'll obey!"

"I'll never defy you again!"

"Good," Mephisto said, producing a contract.

"Sign it."

"I... I have to sign too?" Blackheart froze.

"My son," Mephisto sighed.

"I never forced you before."

"Because you were my son."

"But this time-"

"You've broken my heart."

"With your intelligence."

"Your courage."

"And your power."

"Sign it."

"Or this is your last chance."

Blackheart's hand trembled as he read the contract.

"Father... what's this last clause-"

"Shut up and sign!" Mephisto barked.

He was embarrassed.

That clause involved Duke.

Blackheart's question only made him angrier.

"...Okay."

Blackheart read it again carefully.

He picked up the pen.

As he prepared to sign, he asked casually,

"By the way, Father."

"Where is the San Venganza contract?"

Mephisto sneered.

"At that place."

"The previous Ghost Rider is a gravedigger."

"He hid it in his shovel."

"Hiding in plain sight."

"A classic trick."

"I'm sure you'd have fallen for it."

"Yeah," Blackheart said softly.

"I definitely would have."

Then he suddenly sneered.

And threw the contract at Mephisto.

"So you're not that great either, old man."

"...You dare lie to me!" Mephisto caught it, glanced down-

No blood.

No true name.

His fury exploded.

"I dared to escape Hell."

"Why wouldn't I dare lie?"

"You're just an old man now."

"You might even die in a few years!"

"Roar!" Mephisto vanished in rage.

"Just wait!"

"Your end will be burial without a body!"

"That's still better than being used by you and tortured forever!" Blackheart snarled.

"...What just happened?" The Wind Demon and Water Demon were stunned.

They were all demons.

Why was the mind game so intense?

"I was going to use his info, find the contract, absorb the souls," Blackheart laughed.

"But the old man wasn't stupid enough."

"He wanted me to sign first."

"So I tricked him into talking."

"He even gave the info before I signed."

"He's really getting old."

"He was coughing earlier."

"Must be sick."

Blackheart grew more excited as he spoke.

"Let's go."

The three demons left.

Moments later, Mephisto reappeared, staring coldly in their direction.

The contract in his hand turned to dust.

"I thought you weren't that stupid."

"You always prove me wrong."

"You could have been reborn."

"But now..."

Mephisto shook his head.

And disappeared.
