Chapter 271 - Chapter 9: An Idiom Came to Mind

"Damn it... I hate this feeling. I want to resist, but it's too comfortable..." Bruce couldn't keep his heavy eyelids open any longer and slowly drifted off.

His last thought before losing consciousness was clear.

I have to learn this ability someday.

And then I'll find the right moment to get revenge.

"We'll be staying here for a while," Morin said to Diana.

"Once his physical training is complete, I'll teach him magic. After that, we'll travel through China."

"Okay." Diana didn't object.

In fact, she was curious.

Why would Morin consider Bruce-an apparently ordinary human-a key figure capable of influencing the world?

Over the next month, she understood.

Morin's training was, in Diana's eyes, outright torture for a normal human.

Every session pushed Bruce straight to his physical limit.

A limit was called a limit for a reason.

Hitting it every single time wasn't just a physical ordeal.

It was mental as well.

Even though Morin constantly healed Bruce's body and kept him in peak condition, Diana noticed something.

Morin couldn't "fix" the mind.

At least, that's how it looked to her.

And yet, Bruce never gave up.

Mental fatigue seemed nonexistent.

Later, he even asked Morin to shorten the intervals between these brutal sessions.

"That's enough," Morin said, ruffling Bruce's hair again.

"Your technique and physical condition have both reached their current peak. Continuing would affect your growth."

"Affect his growth?" Alfred's heart skipped.

"Yeah," Morin added casually.

"He might stop growing taller."

Bruce froze.

Then he reacted.

"Wait-why didn't I fight back just now?"

Alfred's expression turned complicated.

"Are you sure it's not because you keep ruffling his hair?"

"Alright," Morin waved it off.

"From now on, just follow this schedule to maintain your condition and improve steadily."

He handed Bruce a new plan.

"The most important thing now is magic. Learning it depends on you. I don't have much to teach you personally, so..."

Morin pulled out a USB drive and placed it in front of Bruce.

"Watch the videos. If you get stuck, call me. I'm going on vacation."

"...Isn't this teaching style a bit lazy?" Bruce took the drive.

"Especially when I'm about to learn dangerous magic."

"Why do you think I pushed your body to its limit first?" Morin laughed.

"Relax. Follow the steps I summarized and you won't be in danger."

"When you finish everything on that drive, I'll give you more."

"Steps you summarized?" Bruce frowned.

"Trust me," Morin said calmly.

"The magic I'm teaching doesn't require sacrificing limbs to cast. It's safe, standard white magic."

He pulled out a pitch-black scroll.

"Or would you prefer learning directly from this? Fair warning-this was a gift from Mephisto, the Lord of Hell. It's full of traps."

"For example..."

Morin unfurled the scroll.

A complex magic circle lit up.

The smell of sulfur filled the air.

"Hehehe! I am Chrysfelt, the Demon of Greed! Mortal, as a reward for unsealing me, offer your body and I shall-gah?!"

"See?" Morin said, calmly grabbing the demon by the throat and yanking him out of the scroll.

"Doesn't he look scary?"

The demon's introduction had been too long.

Morin didn't want to hear it.

That "gah" was the last sound Chrysfelt made as he struggled.

Bruce: "..."

You're the scary one.

At the same time, Bruce quietly shelved his revenge plans again.

Morin's strength was terrifying.

Until he was sure he could win, he had to stay calm.

He couldn't let Morin sense even a trace of hostility.

Even if his hair got ruffled.

A gentleman's revenge can wait ten years.

"Don't let his helplessness fool you," Morin said, still choking the demon while layering several Weakness spells on him.

"If you faced him yourself-even like this-you wouldn't stand a chance."

"Are there many creatures like this in Hell?" Diana asked after watching for a while.

She poked Chrysfelt with her Sword of Athena.

"Nah. He's low-tier," Morin replied.

"Barely even qualifies... Hey. Why did you cut his leg off?"

"I wanted to test his defense," Diana said awkwardly.

"That sword's a divine artifact," Morin shook his head.

"He's bottom-tier. There's no difference under your blade."

He prevented the demon from screaming and kept the blood off the floor.

"Don't be scared," Morin said lightly.

"I'm putting you back now~"

And with that, Chrysfelt was stuffed back into the scroll.

A true tool demon.

"By the way," Diana asked, "that sword you used before-what's its origin? The material felt comparable to mine."

"The Sword of Eden," Morin replied.

"Technically a divine artifact. From an advanced civilization."

Bruce: "..."

Yeah.

The revenge plan was officially hopeless.

"I'm sure someone as smart as you knows which choice to make," Morin smiled at Bruce.

"When you're almost done with the drive, call me. I'll come back with the next level."

Leaving Bruce to self-study, Morin took Diana to China.

They traveled for about a year.

As their relationship deepened, Diana finally decided to take him back to Themyscira.

"If we sail through this sea mist, we'll reach Paradise Island," Diana said.

They were on a yacht, surrounded by dense fog.

Visibility was less than ten meters.

"Old magic," Morin said, reaching out and tapping the air.

"Effective, but the potency has faded."

The mist parted.

A clear path opened straight toward the island.

"How good are you at magic, exactly?" Diana asked, still amazed.

"Honestly," Morin pointed at his head,

"even I don't know. I'm learning every second."

With his processing power, not analyzing magic would be a waste.

Understanding its foundations allowed him to create spells and grow stronger.

"Really?" Diana sounded doubtful.

"Of course. When have I ever lied to you?"

"I feel like you rarely tell the truth."

"I'm hurt," Morin protested.

"I'm the most honest person I know. This time it's real."

"So you have lied before?"

"Never!"

...

Amid their banter, the yacht reached a transparent barrier.

A magic circle Morin had prepared flickered.

The barrier parted.

At the island's center, Queen Hippolyta's eyes snapped open.

"Guard. Assemble."

...

"They might be overreacting," Morin muttered, eye twitching as he looked at the beach.

A fully armed Amazon unit stood ready.

Bows drawn.

I did run off with your most precious treasure, but is this necessary?

Then again...

Morin nodded.

Paradise Island lived up to its name.

Even if they couldn't compare to Diana, every warrior was stunning.

Lean. Powerful. Supermodel-tier.

Unfortunately, he'd already picked the best tree.

The forest was off-limits.

"I feel like you're thinking something inappropriate," Diana said flatly.

"Relax. I'll only defend, not attack," Morin replied smoothly, silently cursing female intuition.

"Fire!" Hippolyta ordered the moment the yacht entered range.

The Police Multi-Purpose Vehicle had transformed into a four-story yacht.

Morin and Diana stood behind mirrored glass.

Hippolyta couldn't see who was aboard.

Caution came first.

Hundreds of arrows arced through the sky.

"I've got this," Morin said, stopping Diana.

"Let me show off a bit. I don't want them thinking I'm just a pretty face."

"What does that mean?" Diana asked.

She understood Chinese, but not that idiom.

"It means I'm not a freeloading boyfriend."

"You don't look like one," Diana replied seriously.

"Good." Morin smiled.

"Because I'm about to make an impression."

He raised a hand.

The arrows froze midair.

"Cool," Diana admitted.

"Call me the Master of Magnetism," Morin chuckled.

On the shore, Hippolyta and the guards were stunned.

Blocking or deflecting arrows was one thing.

Stopping them outright was another.

"Anti-magic arrows. Fire-enchanted. Volley fire!" Hippolyta ordered, keeping calm.

Three volleys followed.

It was pointless.

Morin wasn't using magic.

He was using electromagnetism.

Science.

"Are you sure you want to keep going?" Diana asked, amused.

"My mother's going to think you're here to start a war."

"Probably... not," Morin said stiffly, glancing at the growing wall of arrows blocking the sun.

I just wanted to look cool.

I should've called ahead.

Why are they so stubborn?

Morin accelerated the yacht toward shore.

He needed to salvage his image with his future mother-in-law.

"Warriors!" Hippolyta commanded.

"The enemy is strong, but we will not falter! Fight to the death! Do not let them land!"

"Hyaaah!"

The Amazons charged.

Morin swallowed.

Tropical climate.

Minimal armor.

Emergency deployment.

Some hadn't finished fastening everything.

As they ran...

An idiom surfaced in Morin's mind.

Something about boiling waves.

Forgive me.

"It's a misunderstanding!" Diana laughed and leapt off the yacht.

"Sisters! I'm back!"

"Huh?" The warriors skidded to a stop.

Hippolyta pulled her reins.

"Diana?"

"It's me," Diana said, bowing.

"Mother."

"That... was you?" Hippolyta looked dazed.

Since when did her daughter have power like that?

"No," Diana smiled proudly and looked back.

"It was my boyfriend."

"Ha..." Morin stepped forward awkwardly, scratching his head and waving.

The frozen arrows drifted down, stacking neatly on the sand.

"Hi, Mother-in-law."

"And... hi, sisters?"
