When Emiya got home, only his mom was there, watching TV. His dad was probably still at the convenience store.
The moment she saw him, she stood up.
"You little rascal. Where have you been these past few days? You didn't answer your phone. I thought you went missing."
Emiya smiled.
"How could that happen? I told you a few days ago I was helping a friend."
"And now?" she pressed. "Is it done?"
"Not yet. I ran into a bit of trouble and might need to go abroad for a while, so I came back to talk to you about it."
It was the safest excuse he could think of. There was no way he could explain traveling between worlds.
"Go abroad?" His mom frowned. "What are you going abroad for?"
"A trip, I guess."
"A trip?" She looked surprised. "Where? America? England?"
"Neither. Some small country in Europe. I forgot the name," Emiya said without blinking. "But I heard the scenery is nice."
She gave him a sideways look.
"You're going on a trip and you don't even know where you're going?"
"It's because we're visiting a lot of places," Emiya said quickly, his gaze drifting. "Europe has tons of small countries. We'll probably stay for a month. We're landing in England and then traveling across Europe. Too many places to remember."
"Didn't you just say you weren't going to England?"
"That's because I didn't explain it properly," Emiya replied smoothly. "We're landing there, not staying. England's just a transit point."
Since she had never been abroad, Emiya wasn't worried about getting caught. He said whatever came to mind.
After enough back-and-forth, he finally convinced her that he was going to Europe with friends for a month. She reluctantly accepted it.
That only left his dad.
Emiya left the house and went to the neighborhood convenience store. His dad was there, working as usual.
Unlike his mom, his dad had traveled before. He wasn't easy to fool.
Even so, Emiya talked nonstop and eventually wore him down.
At noon, the three of them had a simple lunch together at home as a send-off.
After eating, Emiya said his goodbyes.
Once he left his parents' place, he returned to his own home and used his ability to go back to Axel. By then, it was already past midnight in that world.
He returned to the villa he had created and went straight to bed.
He was genuinely tired.
He slept until around eight the next morning, when a knock woke him up. Emiya got out of bed, opened the door, and found Darkness standing there.
"Good morning, Darkness," he said, yawning.
"Good morning, Emiya. Aqua and the others asked me to wake you for breakfast."
Emiya nodded.
"Go ahead. I'll be there in a bit."
After she left, he washed his face. Once he felt awake, he went down to the dining room. Aqua, Satou Kazuma, and Darkness were already seated.
The moment Aqua saw him, she asked, "What time did you get back last night?"
"Around one, I think."
As he spoke, Emiya used Fantasy Creation to make several breakfast dishes.
Aqua grabbed a plate immediately and took a bite of the burger.
"That's really late. What were you doing?"
"Ran into something minor," Emiya said, not elaborating.
He handed breakfast to Kazuma and Darkness.
Darkness looked surprised and quietly said, "Thank you."
"You're welcome."
They ate without much conversation.
Once they finished, they got ready to head to the Adventurer's Guild.
"I'm going to the bathroom first," Emiya said. "You guys take a quest. I'll meet you there."
No one thought much of it. Aqua and the others nodded and rode off on their scooters.
Emiya watched them disappear.
Then he switched worlds.
He arrived in the DanMachi world and headed straight for Loki's base without stopping.
Not long after, he reached Twilight Manor. After some searching, he found Riveria and Ais eating breakfast in the dining hall.
At the table with them were Loki, the Amazon sisters, and a small, strikingly handsome blond boy.
Emiya recognized him instantly.
Finn Deimne. The captain of the Loki Familia.
It was Emiya's first time meeting him since joining the familia.
Finn looked like a child, but he wasn't one. As a Pallum, his appearance didn't match his age.
He was a leader with both strength and intelligence, capable of commanding a massive faction. The title "Hero" had been personally granted to him by the gods.
He also had a peculiar trait.
When danger approached, his right thumb would ache, and he would bite it.
That habit immediately reminded Emiya of another Finn.
Fionn mac Cumhaill.
The descendant of the Celtic war god Nuada. Leader of the Fianna. A hero who defeated an evil god through hypnosis and fire, protected Ireland, and stood alongside legends like CĂş Chulainn, the Son of Light.
As a boy, Fionn gained supreme wisdom after eating the Salmon of Knowledge. It was said he could learn anything simply by sucking his thumb.
Same name. Same thumb.
Even more interesting, the Finn before him was a Pallum, while the Fionn of legend was often depicted as a benevolent giant.
The connection felt almost too deliberate.
While Emiya's thoughts wandered, he walked over.
Loki noticed him first.
"Yo, Emiya-boy. Here to pick up Riveria and Ais?"
Emiya nodded.
Finn looked up and smiled.
"So you're Emiya. Nice to meet you. I'm Finn Deimne, captain of the Loki Familia."
"How could I not recognize the famous Hero?" Emiya replied politely. "I'm Emiya. It's a pleasure, Captain."
Courtesy was returned with courtesy.
"Riveria already told me about your trip to another world," Finn said. "I think it's a good opportunity. I'll leave my familia members in your care."
"Don't worry," Emiya said. "They'll come back and surprise you."
"Hm. I'll look forward to it."
Just then, Loki circled behind Emiya, hooked an arm around his neck, and pulled him closer.
"Listen carefully, Emiya-boy. I'm letting you take Ais, but you are absolutely not allowed to try and 'conquer' her. Got it? Ais-tan is mine. If you dare try anything, I'll seriously get mad."
Emiya smiled.
"Relax. I'm not interested in the Sword Princess. If I had to choose someone to conquer, it'd be Riveria."
Compared to the airheaded Sword Princess, Riveria suited his tastes more.
Loki froze.
Her expression went completely blank.
In her mind, Riveria was practically the familia's mom. Romance wasn't even a consideration. Not to mention Riveria was old enough to be Emiya's grandmother.
The words came out before she could stop them.
"Huh? You like Riveria? Are you a mom-con?"
She hadn't lowered her voice.
Everyone heard it.
Riveria stiffened when she heard Emiya's comment, but when Loki finished speaking, her expression darkened instantly.
Old?
Mom-con?
That crossed a line.
Without hesitation, she grabbed a knife and fork and hurled them.
Loki reacted instantly and ducked behind Emiya.
Seeing the utensils flying at him, Emiya instinctively activated his Psychic Shield.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
The knife and fork slammed into the invisible barrier and were deflected.
Finn's eyes lit up.
"So that's how it is. No wonder there are rumors."
"Rumors?" Emiya asked.
"I know this one!" Tione raised her hand. "Didn't I go into the dungeon with you last time?"
Emiya nodded.
"Your psychokinetic attacks are invisible," Tione continued. "So when you killed monsters, it looked like you just stared at them and they died."
She grinned.
"Before long, people started saying a new member of the Loki Familia could kill monsters just by looking at them."
"Lots of adventurers are curious about what you'll become in the future," she added. "Of course, some people don't believe it at all."
"Killing with a glance?" Emiya muttered. "That's exaggerated."
He never expected his fighting style to turn into something so absurd once rumors got involved.
Rumors really were terrifying.
