Chapter 152 - Chapter 1: The Touch of Gold

After leaving Shizuka's world, Emiya arrived in a new one, just as he had every time before.

This time, he appeared inside a restaurant built in a classical style.

It was empty.

Not a single customer in sight.

However, loud noise drifted in from the entrance.

Curious, Emiya walked outside.

A large crowd had gathered.

At the center stood a mature woman. She was beautiful, but panic showed clearly on her face.

She was clinging to a man's arm, begging him not to leave.

The man wore a white robe and a turban. Long black hair fell down his back.

His expression was impatient.

He tried to shake her off.

What caught Emiya's attention was the crowd.

Many of them still wore ox-tail braids from the Old World.

It felt wrong.

Then Emiya heard the woman speak.

"Shao'an, at least tell me why you're leaving."

Shao'an?

The name rang a bell.

The man sneered at her.

"Why?" he said coldly. "Because you have nothing left to teach me, old hag."

He violently shook his arm.

The woman was sent flying.

She staggered, then fell to the ground.

Emiya's eyes twitched.

This felt familiar.

He looked up at the restaurant's sign.

Under the sunlight, three golden characters gleamed.

Kikkaro Restaurant.

So that was it.

Kikkaro Restaurant of Sichuan.

Cooking Master Boy.

Everything clicked.

No wonder the hairstyles were so strange.

This was that world.

And Shao'an-

The senior brother of the protagonist, Mao.

The woman on the ground-

The legendary fairy.

Madam Pai.

So this was the timeline.

Emiya watched as Shao'an shook her off and strode away.

Then Emiya shouted.

"You bastard. Stop."

In the next instant, he sprinted forward.

Long strides.

Fast.

He raised a fist the size of a pot.

And brought it down on Shao'an's head.

Shao'an was a chef.

Not a fighter.

He didn't even have time to react.

He was smashed into the ground.

He couldn't get back up.

Emiya didn't stop.

He held back-barely.

Otherwise, Shao'an would've died from the first hit.

Even so, Emiya showed no mercy.

Punch after punch.

In moments, Shao'an's head was covered in swelling bumps, his body caked in dirt.

The crowd was stunned.

No one expected this man to appear out of nowhere and beat Shao'an into the ground.

"St... stop."

To Emiya's surprise, no one stepped in.

Instead, Madam Pai-who had just been thrown aside-lunged forward and grabbed his arm.

She stopped him.

Emiya frowned.

"Fairy Pai, I'm avenging you. He treated you like this, and you're protecting him?"

Too kind.

Far too kind.

Madam Pai shook her head.

She looked at Emiya gratefully.

"Thank you, sir. But if you keep hitting him, Shao'an will die. It's not worth you bearing a murder charge for his sake."

Emiya understood.

He let go.

Shao'an lay there, bruised and swollen.

Emiya stood up and turned to the crowd.

"Two of you. Take this ungrateful dog to the clinic."

No one moved.

They exchanged looks.

Emiya took out a piece of silver.

"Whoever takes him gets this."

A young man burst out of the crowd like a starving dog.

He grabbed the silver, bit it, and grinned.

"Sir, leave this dog to me. I'll make sure he gets there."

Emiya nodded.

The man hoisted Shao'an onto his shoulder and ran off.

The crowd sighed in regret.

Too slow.

That silver could've been theirs.

Madam Pai finally relaxed.

No matter how cruel Shao'an had been, she had raised him.

She didn't want to see him die.

Now that he was gone, her gratitude toward Emiya deepened.

"Thank you, sir."

"It's nothing," Emiya said. "I'm... glad I could help, Fairy Pai."

For some reason, his speech had become more martial-arts-like.

Probably local influence.

Madam Pai was shaken by what had happened, but she invited Emiya inside nonetheless.

He didn't refuse.

The moment he entered, two children rushed over.

"Mom!"

"Mom!"

One older.

One younger.

They clung to Madam Pai, checking her anxiously.

Her children.

The girl was Karin.

The boy-

Mao.

Emiya's gaze lingered, especially on the younger one.

A future Super Chef.

As a foodie, Emiya wanted to stay on good terms with him.

Madam Pai noticed and quickly introduced them.

"These are my children. The older one is Karin. The younger is Mao."

Emiya smiled.

"Please don't call me 'sir.' I don't deserve it. Just call me Emiya."

"My surname is Emi. My given name is Ya."

Madam Pai nodded.

"Then Mr. Emiya, please don't call me 'Fairy.' I'm not worthy of that. Everyone calls me Madam Pai."

Emiya accepted it.

"I came here to taste your cooking. I didn't expect to run into this. I already understand what happened. That Shao'an is heartless. A disgrace."

Madam Pai's expression darkened.

She had raised Shao'an since childhood.

Taught him everything.

Treated him like family.

And this was the result.

Emiya saw her mood sink and spoke quickly.

"Madam Pai, don't take it too hard. What is Shao'an worth?"

He looked at the children.

"Your two children have bright eyes. Extraordinary talent."

Then he focused on Mao.

"Especially your youngest. Exceptional gift. Extraordinary bones."

"In the future, he will inherit your legacy."

"He may even surpass you and become a god of cooking."

Madam Pai flushed.

"You're exaggerating, Mr. Emiya. Even if A-Xing is talented, no one knows his future."

Mao looked up.

"Mom, I'll work harder. I'll become a god of cooking everyone recognizes."

"Well said," Emiya said, giving him a thumbs up.

If you get there faster, I get to eat faster.

Just thinking about it made his mouth water.

Madam Pai smiled gently and stroked Mao's head.

"A-Xing, becoming a god of cooking isn't easy."

"I'm not afraid," Mao said firmly. "You said nothing is difficult for a willing heart."

"If I'm willing, I can do it."

Emiya clapped.

"Excellent. Then let me help you."

Mao's eyes widened.

"Are you a chef too, Mr. Emiya?"

Madam Pai was surprised as well.

Emiya shook his head.

"I don't know how to cook."

"But I am a celestial."

"A... celestial?" Mao froze.

Madam Pai and Karin were stunned.

"I know you don't believe me," Emiya said. "I'll prove it."

He opened his hand.

A gold bar appeared.

He placed it on the table.

Opened his hand again.

Another appeared.

Then another.

And another.

In just moments, dozens of gold bars filled the table.

"This is a celestial technique."

"The Touch of Gold."

Mao stared, mouth wide open.

"So... amazing."

Even Karin was speechless.

Only Madam Pai cried out inwardly.

Stop calling it that.

This isn't the Touch of Gold.

This is creating something from nothing.

But regardless of the name, one thing was certain.

The man named Emiya-

Was no ordinary person.
