Chapter 163 - Chapter 12: Joining

In a single day, the crow flew from Mount Sagiri to the Ubuyashiki residence and back again.

It landed in front of Sakonji Urokodaki's hut.

Its beak opened.

"Caw, caw... Sakonji Urokodaki. By order of the family head, escort the honored guests to the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters immediately. Escort the honored guests to the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters immediately."

Hephaestus looked at the crow, her eyes flickering.

At the last god meeting, Loki had brought out several Transponder Snails.

That alone had shocked all the gods present.

Including her.

When she first saw cell phones in Emiya's world, the impact had been enormous.

But she hadn't expected to encounter something similar in another world.

The world really was full of wonders.

Although she had already made some progress modifying phones and had begun developing a magical version, it still wasn't complete.

She had also been thinking about something like a Transponder Snail.

Seeing the crow now, she felt that although it wasn't as convenient, it could still serve as a substitute.

She even considered introducing it to her familia.

But after a brief thought, she dismissed the idea.

Transponder Snails were clearly something Emiya had found in another world.

If Loki could obtain them, she could too.

There was no need to settle.

She would just ask Emiya to take her there when the opportunity arose.

Meanwhile, Sakonji Urokodaki nodded after receiving the order.

He set off with Hephaestus and Emiya toward the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters.

Emiya activated his Nen and lifted both himself and Hephaestus into the air.

"You lead."

Sakonji Urokodaki had already seen Emiya descend from the sky with Kamado Tanjiro before.

He wasn't surprised.

He pointed in a direction.

"This way."

Whoosh.

The next instant, the three figures shot forward like arrows.

Two humans.

One god.

They departed in the morning.

By noon, they had arrived.

They descended from the sky and landed in the courtyard of the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters.

The scene immediately drew attention.

Swordsmen rushed over.

Inside the residence, Kagaya Ubuyashiki received the report and understood at once.

The honored guests had arrived.

He brought his wife and children and hurried outside.

They knelt before Hephaestus and Emiya.

"I, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, head of the Demon Slayer Corps, greet the God-sama."

His wife and children knelt as well.

The swordsmen who had arrived froze.

Seeing the family head kneeling, they didn't dare hesitate.

They followed suit.

In moments, the courtyard was filled with kneeling figures.

Emiya looked at Kagaya Ubuyashiki.

Just as in the stories.

His face was badly scarred from the eyes upward.

He was blind.

It was hard to imagine he had once been a handsome young man.

Hephaestus spoke softly.

"That... is a curse, isn't it?"

Kagaya Ubuyashiki smiled bitterly.

"God-sama is correct. A curse that has plagued the Ubuyashiki family for a thousand years."

Emiya remembered.

The Ubuyashiki family shared a blood connection with Muzan Kibutsuji.

After Muzan became a demon, the family was cursed.

Children born into the family, especially males, were sickly and short-lived.

To preserve their lineage, they married into shrine maiden families for generations.

Even so, no one lived past thirty.

Only after Muzan's death would the curse fully end.

Kagaya's son-the cross-dressing boy Emiya saw at Mount Fujikasane-would become the longest-lived member.

Emiya had explained the general plot to Hephaestus before.

But he had skipped this detail.

He explained it now.

Hephaestus listened and nodded.

"I see. A bloodline curse tied to karma. That is troublesome."

She raised her hand and placed it on Kagaya Ubuyashiki's shoulder.

Power flowed in.

In seconds, the scars faded.

His face returned to its youthful form.

Light returned to his eyes.

His frail body felt strong for the first time in his life.

Kagaya stared at his hands.

Disbelief.

"Has... the curse been lifted?"

His wife and children burst into tears.

Many swordsmen stared at Hephaestus with fervent eyes.

But Hephaestus shook her head.

"No. It hasn't."

Kagaya stiffened.

She casually ruffled her hair.

"Some curses are trivial. Others are not."

"If it were man-made, I could erase it instantly."

"But yours is a karmic bloodline curse."

"To truly remove it, the bloodline must be severed and the karma broken."

Kagaya understood immediately.

In the end, Muzan Kibutsuji had to die.

"Then my current condition..." he asked carefully.

"I've suppressed the curse," Hephaestus said.

"I restored your health."

"But the curse still exists."

"When my power fades, it will return."

Kagaya's heart sank.

She continued calmly.

"That said, it will take at least thirty years before it devours you again."

Kagaya's breath caught.

"Thirty more years?"

"If you aren't killed by something else," Hephaestus nodded.

"That's enough," Kagaya murmured.

Thirty years was more than enough.

Enough to lead the Demon Slayer Corps.

Enough to challenge Muzan Kibutsuji.

Enough to end everything.

They now had a god on their side.

Emiya spoke.

"This posture is unnecessary. Let's go inside."

Hephaestus nodded.

Only then did Kagaya rise.

He led them into the residence.

The swordsmen returned to their duties.

Inside, Emiya created a table and chairs.

He disliked kneeling.

So did Hephaestus.

Kagaya, however, brought his wife, children, and Sakonji Urokodaki and knelt again.

Hephaestus waved her hand.

"Sit."

She pointed at the chairs.

Kagaya refused several times.

Emiya said, "I know your customs. But since she spoke, follow it."

Only then did Kagaya sit carefully.

The others followed.

Hephaestus spoke.

"Sakonji Urokodaki should have explained Orario in his letter."

"My familia is a forging familia."

"I want Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand."

"You can name your price."

"If it isn't excessive, I'll consider it."

Kagaya answered immediately.

"The Demon Slayer Corps is willing to offer it freely."

"Our only request is to join your familia."

"We are willing to serve you for generations."

Emiya wasn't surprised.

This was Kagaya Ubuyashiki.

He would never miss this chance.

Hephaestus looked at Emiya.

"What do you think?"

Emiya blinked.

"You're asking me?"

She nodded.

"This is your familia," Emiya said. "Why ask me?"

Hephaestus replied calmly.

"We're a forging familia."

"If they were blacksmiths, I'd accept without hesitation."

"But we don't need many combatants."

"You're interested in their swordsmiths," Emiya realized.

She nodded.

"I've seen their Nichirin blades."

"The craftsmanship is excellent."

"I can feel their passion."

Emiya smiled.

"Then take them."

"Extra combatants aren't a bad thing."

"They can also gather rare materials for you."

Kagaya's heart leapt.

"Yes, God-sama. The Demon Slayer Corps will gather every rare ore in the world if you wish."

Emiya added calmly.

"And don't underestimate Kagaya Ubuyashiki."

"He may look frail, but he's an exceptional leader."

"He can help Tsubaki manage your familia."

"It'll save you a lot of trouble."
