----------------------------------------------------------
After finishing a satisfying meal, Emiya and his group bid farewell to the three goddesses and returned from the dungeon to the Type-Moon world.
By then, it was completely dark.
It was around ten at night in Fuyuki City, and most residents were already asleep.
That didn't mean the city was quiet.
The Holy Grail War was in full swing.
The Type-Moon world had an irritating rule.
The more people who knew about a mystery, the weaker it became.
Because of that, ordinary people were never allowed to learn about these matters.
If the Holy Grail War were exposed to the public, those involved would be eliminated.
This was why CĂș Chulainn had killed Emiya Shirou at school back then.
For the same reason, the Holy Grail War never took place during the day.
If Servants fought openly under the eyes of ordinary people, secrecy would be impossible.
So the war belonged to the night.
Not long after Emiya's group returned from the dungeon world-and before they could make it back to the hotel-Medea, Artoria, and CĂș Chulainn all turned their heads in the same direction.
Emiya was a step slower, but he felt it too.
Two powerful forces were colliding somewhere in Fuyuki City.
A clash between Servants.
"Which two do you think are fighting?" Emiya asked.
Three of the city's Servants were already on his side.
That left only a few.
Archer.
Heracles.
Medusa.
Gilgamesh.
And Assassin-Cursed Arm Hassan.
That Assassin was the least influential Servant of the Fifth Holy Grail War.
He only appeared in the Sakura route and never showed up in the Saber or Rin routes.
His presence was even weaker than Sasaki KojirĆ, who had been illegally summoned by Medea.
CĂș Chulainn considered it briefly.
"One aura feels familiar. That should be Red Archer," he said. "The other one's wild. Berserker. Heracles."
Medea nodded slowly, her expression complicated.
"You're right. It's Heracles. I once met him when Jason led the Argonauts to my homeland."
A great hero?
Emiya didn't comment.
He admitted that some Greek demigods were terrifyingly strong and capable of feats beyond ordinary people.
But to call them great heroes?
That was debatable.
From a modern perspective, whether Jason stole the Golden Fleece or abducted Medea, he was still a thief.
A criminal.
Heracles himself had gone mad and killed his own children and a close friend.
Once, while passing through Magnesia, a king barred him from entering.
In his rage, Heracles killed the king.
Then he fathered a child with the king's daughter.
Thinking about it calmly, how could the daughter of a murdered king willingly bear the child of her father's killer?
There was only one explanation.
After killing the king, Heracles forcibly married the daughter and made her give birth.
What was the difference between that and abducting a woman?
If there was any, it was only that the victim was a princess instead of a commoner.
How could someone like that be called a hero?
Of course, Emiya knew better than to judge ancient heroes by modern standards.
They lived in a different era, under different rules.
Comparing them wasn't fair.
And in the end, Heracles's behavior could also be blamed on his upbringing.
After all, Zeus himself was a notorious womanizer who committed countless misdeeds.
With a father like that, it wasn't surprising.
Emiya kept all of this to himself.
"Let's go take a look."
He led Medea, Artoria, and CĂș Chulainn toward the source of the clash.
When they arrived, Emiya paused.
It was a church.
Fighting in front of it were Red Archer and Heracles.
Heracles was a top-tier Servant.
But as a Berserker, he had lost his sanity.
Even with overwhelming combat experience and raw strength, that madness prevented him from defeating Red Archer quickly.
Worse, it gave Red Archer chances to kill him.
If not for his Noble Phantasm-God Hand-which allowed him to resurrect multiple times, Heracles would have already returned to the Throne of Heroes.
The difference between having a mind and lacking one was simply too great.
Although Berserker Heracles possessed superior physical strength, compared to having intelligence, this wild state was unnecessary.
Berserker Heracles was not on the same level as Archer Heracles.
Against Gilgamesh, the Berserker version was dominated from beginning to end.
But Archer Heracles?
He had the strength to defeat Gilgamesh.
And if it were Alcides, the Avenger version, the gap would be even wider.
Gilgamesh would be completely suppressed.
Unfortunately, the Einzbern homunculi were idiots.
Instead of summoning Archer Heracles, they insisted on Berserker.
They didn't want a hero with too much independence.
They wanted a loyal, obedient dog.
So they chose Berserker.
In doing so, they weakened him.
For most Servants, madness was a buff.
For Heracles, it was a nerf.
A sane Heracles was far more terrifying.
As Red Archer and Heracles clashed, Emiya noticed something else.
Not far away, another battle was unfolding.
Rin Tohsaka and Illyasviel von Einzbern.
While Servants fought in front of the church, their Masters were locked in their own deadly struggle.
This was a fight where the loser would likely die.
On the church rooftop, a blond man in ordinary clothing watched everything with interest.
Gilgamesh.
The Archer left over from the previous Holy Grail War.
When Emiya arrived with three Servants, Gilgamesh finally reacted.
He shifted his gaze from the battlefield and looked at Emiya.
CĂș Chulainn and Artoria stepped forward at the same time, placing themselves in front of their Master.
Emiya sighed.
"In the Fourth Holy Grail War, you stood on a streetlamp. Now it's a rooftop," he said. "Do you just like looking down on people, Gilgamesh?"
Gilgamesh sneered.
"Who gave you permission to address me by name, mongrel?"
Strictly speaking, they were the same person.
But the Gilgamesh of this war and the one from the Fourth might as well have been different people.
Their ways of thinking weren't the same.
"CĂș Chulainn. Artoria," Emiya said calmly. "You two deal with Heracles. Free Red Archer up so he can face Gilgamesh."
CĂș Chulainn froze.
He looked reluctant.
"Master, I really want to fight that ancient Heroic Spirit myself."
Seeing the fighting spirit burning in his eyes, Emiya didn't stop him.
"Fine. Go."
Gilgamesh's smile turned mocking.
"As a Master, you can't even control your own dog."
Emiya didn't care.
He'd long since gotten used to Gilgamesh's mouth.
"Go, CĂș Chulainn."
CĂș Chulainn laughed.
He kicked off the ground and shot toward Gilgamesh like an arrow.
Gilgamesh didn't move.
A sinister smile curled at the corner of his mouth.
The Gate of Babylon opened behind him.
Countless Noble Phantasms erupted from the treasury.
Whoosh-whoosh-whoosh-
A storm of weapons rained down.
At the same time, Medea raised her hand.
Layers of magic circles unfolded.
Streams of magic bullets shot upward, striking the Noble Phantasms with precise accuracy.
One after another, they were knocked aside.
CĂș Chulainn swung his spear, deflecting the few that slipped through.
He closed the distance rapidly.
From elsewhere, Rin Tohsaka shouted, "Since you're here, help me!"
As a homunculus, Illya possessed magic circuits spread throughout her body.
In raw output, she overwhelmed even the genius Rin.
Rin wasn't at a disadvantage yet.
But if it dragged on, the outcome was uncertain.
Emiya decided instantly.
"Artoria, protect Medea. I'll help Rin Tohsaka."
Without hesitation, he rushed toward their battlefield.
The moment he stepped in, he was attacked.
White Crane Knights.
Illya's familiars.
Silver constructs formed using her own hair as a medium.
They looked like small birds.
In reality, they were autonomous floating gun platforms.
High-performance familiars with automatic tracking.
Small, but capable of generating magic like miniature magi.
Extremely convenient in battle.
Emiya's hands turned jet black.
Mana Burst combined with Armament Haki.
With this, he could fight a Servant head-on.
Using it against a girl-
He paused.
-felt a bit despicable.
At least, that's what he thought.
Even though Illya was technically older than Emiya Shirou, and no longer a child by age.
She still looked like one.
