Valentina caught a glimpse of the pieces of glasses scattered all over the wall side of the room, and her breath sharpened.
"I think you may need to sit for this," she said to Luciano.
He didn't argue with her. Only nodded, and took a seat on the high stool.
She did the same, but right where she was standing, to create a healthy distance between them.
Luciano avoided her gaze, as he waited patiently for her to say what she had to say.
There wasn't a part of him ready to truly believe Chris would ever betray him. But he wasn't stupidly arrogant enough not to keep an open mind.
He heard her clear her throat, and he adjusted on his seat.
"Nana died over a year ago, and it kinda just-" her fingers trembled, but she pushed through. "It sucked. A whole lot. But it was also the first time I could truly walk into the world and live as an adult. It was on one of these random strolls into a park to clear my mind, I met Jared."
