Chapter 161 - Chapter 161 Father and Son Finally Reunited

John and Zhang Jie, who had boarded the speedboat, let out a long sigh of relief. Being in the water for so long was not a pleasant or comfortable experience.

"It seems both gentlemen are doing quite well?"

Carlos even had the presence of mind to tease them.

After both men were on board, the white-haired old man turned around, started the speedboat, and quickly departed.

Feeling the cold canyon wind blowing past his face, Zhang Jie glanced at Wesley, who was lying on the speedboat.

"Heh, he's sleeping quite soundly."

He took off his hoodie, wrung it out, revealing the bulletproof vest underneath.

Yes, as a qualified 'old six' (a term for a cunning, calculating person), safety must be paramount, especially when facing guys whose bullets can curve. Wearing a hoodie was meant to mislead them.

Except for John, who, as always, wore his suit. Well, this man, who insists on being dapper even unto death, always has his own principles.

After wringing out the water, he casually tossed the hoodie aside.

"Have you thought about how you're going to face your precious son now?"

Zhang Jie looked at the unconscious Wesley again and said to Carlos.

Carlos's left shoulder was injured, and his bulletproof vest on his chest was damaged. That spot was exactly where Wesley's bullet had struck.

Carlos shook his head, apparently still unsure how to face his precious son. After all, they hadn't seen each other for so many years, and their reunion involved shooting and killing. Anyone would find it hard to remain calm.

Truth be told, he genuinely only wished for his son to be an ordinary person, not to get involved in the killings of the assassin world, living a life of constant anxiety.

But that damned Sloan still dragged him into the dangerous abyss. The main reason, however, was that Carlos had never actively contacted his son, which made it easy for Wesley to be deceived.

Especially when faced with the temptation of a seven-figure bank deposit, who wouldn't be swayed?

A bewildered Carlos turned his gaze to John. John, seeing Carlos looking at him, was momentarily stunned.

Then he glared at Carlos, somewhat annoyed, "What are you looking at! I don't have a son, don't look at me!"

Helpless, Carlos could only redirect his gaze to Wesley. To be honest, this was the first time he had formally, and at such close proximity, encountered his son.

However, remembering how Wesley had unhesitatingly shot him when he tried to save him on the train, Carlos's heart was quite pained.

Just then, Zhang Jie suddenly spoke, "I say, you, a top master, why are you thinking so much? Just tie him up and show him the evidence, wouldn't that be fine?"

These words instantly brought clarity to everyone, and Str, who was standing at the front, holding the rudder, showed a slight smile.

"Sometimes, the most complex problems can always be reasonably solved with the simplest methods, don't you agree?"

He said at the right moment. Carlos and John immediately fell silent. In this regard, they surprisingly had less say than Zhang Jie.

Once again, they returned to Carlos's residence. This time, Str and Wesley also came.

When a conscious Wesley suddenly emerged from the bathtub, gasping for air, he alertly noticed the change in his surroundings. He cautiously looked around and saw Str sitting in a chair.

Looking at Str, who was sitting in a chair by the window, a peculiar sniper rifle rested beside him.

Although Wesley was alert, he did not make any drastic moves, because he recognized the old man; it was the same old man he had seen at the Abbey.

"You're awake."

Str sat in the chair, without any panic or fear, just calmly looking at Wesley.

"Where is this?"

"This is your father's home." Saying this, Str pointed to the photo frames beside him. Wesley walked over and found that all of them were photos of himself as a child.

From photos of him as a very young child, to photos of him in school, to photos of him in college, and even photos of him entering society. Some were frontal, some were profile, but most were taken from a candid angle.

At this moment, Wesley realized that his father had always been by his side, silently protecting him in a way he hadn't known.

"Carlos has actually always been by your side, but you just never noticed. He never acknowledged you because he didn't want you to get involved in the Brotherhood's conflicts."

Str slowly explained.

While looking at the photos in his hand and listening to Str's explanation, Wesley finally understood that Carlos was his true father.

Especially after seeing one particular photo, which seemed to have been taken of his home from across the street, he immediately went to the window and looked out. Across the railway, he saw his own home. His father had been by his side all along.

Then, Str stood up, took a box from a nearby cabinet, then took out a folded piece of paper from the box, and handed it to Wesley.

"Take a look, you should be able to understand it."

Wesley took the folded paper, puzzled, then opened it. It was a list of assassinations and a piece of woven cloth.

"Your father discovered early on that the Brotherhood's assassination targets were becoming increasingly strange, so he also investigated in secret until he found this assassination code on the loom."

Str leaned against the window, looking at Wesley who was deciphering, and said lightly, "This list has appeared many times. The loom has been repeatedly emphasizing that the assassination targets have not yet been eliminated. And after Carlos discovered this segment of the code, it aroused Sloan's suspicion, which is why the endless bounty was placed on him."

As Wesley deciphered the woven cloth onto paper, Sloan's name quickly appeared on it.

It was only at this moment that he realized Sloan was the one who truly deserved to die.

He had deceived him from the very beginning. He was afraid that his father, Carlos, would assassinate him, but he couldn't find Carlos's hiding place, so he chose to drag himself into this muddy water, using his father's love for him and his own desire for revenge against the fake father to kill his biological father.

Wesley was instantly stunned, because the person who killed his biological father was himself. He regretted it immensely. When his father reached out to save him, why did he have to fire that shot?

But just then, the door on the other side opened, and three people walked out.

Carlos, John, and Zhang Jie emerged. Seeing Carlos, who was not dead, Wesley suddenly didn't know what to say. He stood frozen in place.

I thought you were dead, but you're standing alive right in front of me. My sense of guilt, which I had so painstakingly maintained for less than three seconds, was just diluted by you like that.

After being stunned for a good while, Wesley finally couldn't help but walk towards Carlos and then hugged Carlos tightly.

Carlos's movements were a bit stiff as he was embraced. After a while, he hugged Wesley back tightly, gently patting Wesley's back, his eyes slightly red.

"Good boy, you're always the best!"

But even until the end, Carlos only managed to say this one sentence. In his eyes, his child truly was the best; even without his companionship for so many years, he still grew up strong.

Learning the skills an assassin should have in the Brotherhood in such a short time, isn't that amazing?

Although he carried a mysterious hatred, it was resolved in the end, wasn't it?

John watched this scene with mixed emotions, while Zhang Jie felt a little choked up, not knowing why, perhaps because the original owner's parents died looking for him.
