The thread felt warmer this morning than it had yesterday.
Bruce noticed it with his first conscious thought. Not because he had been searching for it, but because the warmth was already there, a faint presence he carried at the edge of his awareness. It seemed layered somehow, as though the thread itself had retained a sensation gathered from the other side overnight.
He lay still, letting his attention settle on it.
Last night's push had changed something. For the first time, he had felt his body move its fingers on the far side of the thread. He had gone to sleep with the knowledge humming at the edges of his awareness, and the night's rest had allowed it to settle.
His soul-body had absorbed the sensation and processed it in whatever way it processed new information. Now, in the morning, the thread felt fuller.
That was the word that kept coming to him. As though the channel had widened slightly after their first successful two-way interaction.
