The first thing Ava became aware of was warmt, not the warmth of the blanket wrapped around her, nor the soft morning sunlight spilling through the curtains.
It was something else, a feeling, as though someone was quietly watching her.
Her eyelashes fluttered before she slowly opened her eyes and her breath caught.. Damian was sitting on the edge of the bed.
He had already changed into one of his usual dark suits, his tie still hanging loosely around his neck as though he hadn't finished getting ready. One elbow rested against his thigh while one hand was folded loosely in front of him.
He was simply looking at her.
The intensity of his gaze made her heartbeat stumble.
"...Good morning," she whispered, her voice still thick with sleep.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"Good morning."
Ava immediately became aware of herself. her hair was undoubtedly a mess, she was wearing his oversized shirt and she had just woken up.
