Chapter 17 - CHAPTER 17 : REIKA

Confusion and myriads of questions cloud my mind the moment I lift my head of the ground and my eyes land on her.

"Hello brother." she beams at him. What was her name again? .....K....Kal. KAL!! That was it. Reid's adopted sister who was also a kylte, and the solution to my problems right now. She was as tall as I am if not an inch shorter. And a bundle of joy while still at it. You surely couldn't imagine that someone that insanely beautiful, with her ginger hair that differed from Reid's dark hair and blue eyes and an insanely sharp jawline was going to shun your powers. But she was. Her personality was so peppy and cheery it really made just stare in awe at her for the better part of the day.

How could someone have so much happiness inside of them? No honestly. I might have been a cloud of gloominess and pessimism compared to her. But that was not what had my brain in a messy shamble.

henna? renna? enna? There's something that she said to me the first time we met. She seemed to be confused when she saw me. If I could just put my finger on it. Or you could ask her. You could ask any of them, I'm sure they know your name. Except my strange self wanted to remember everything on my own. I have a feeling that once I remember everything, shit would change, and not in the ow I'm moving away to a new town type of change. Its the move your feet and the earth explodes or move your hand and the gravitational force collapses causing the earth to fold out and explode.

"What if I get expelled from the Academy because of this?" Kal asks across the room. Shit, I hadn't thought of that. Kal is a student at The Academy. A third year in her mage-hood. And this was some complex stuff we are getting her into. Not to mention her dad was on Meridian's board, shit. Reid hand holds mine making me startle for a moment. he keeps doing that you know. He was still talking to Kal.

The little gesture calms me down though, enough to now concentrate on the on hand discussion. "I think Reika should just say no. You are a freaking Psythelian mage and to make matters even better, if it is true that the sages want you, Then why aren't they the ones protecting you?" Ameira shoots. She has a valid point. Why aren't the mages protecting me? An uncomfortable feeling settles in my stomach at the thought of the sages. Whatever I can't remember yet, that was the reason they weren't here.

"Because they need me to come to them willingly. Whatever is left of my memories that I don't remember, clearly there's something or a reason there as to why they aren't helping me right now." I said to them. "Well the blonde guy who was next to Fiona's body did say that this was the second time you killed one of your own." Garth chips in and my heart sinks to my stomach and I can feel the blood drain from my face. The focus in my eyes goes blurry and I feel my Knees give out.

My arms move forward, releasing a power surge so strong even I had never felt before...

Sometimes you need to embrace death to be enlightened.....

My eyes open quickly and instantly meet a familiar blue pair. Don't panic. He says into my mind and I notice his eyes soften then. Telena and My dad are here, they want to take you, but just remember. You won't go if you don't want to. He adds as he straightens himself to stand up but i grab onto his shirt before he does so. I think I remember something. I say into his mind and he pauses and leans into my touch for a second before fully straightening and helping me get up from the couch.

Scanning the room, I see all familiar faces that were here before I land on new faces. Oh, my God. Its her, it's really her. One a tall brunette woman I recognize as the friend who gave me the spine tattoo on my back. No way.

"Telly?" I query and all eyes turn to me, clearly confused, but not her, she smiles and walks toward me. I walk toward her too and we engage in a long hug as I remember all the little fun memories we had right before I settled in this town. "You're the all powerful arcanist on meridian's board that's coming to take me away?" I ask laughing as I release the hug.

She chuckles back and shoots Reid a look. "I see they've already warned you." she starts. "And given everything that's happening. I want to keep you safe. You might not have all your memories yet but trust that we have your best interests at heart." She says with a heartfelt smile. I exhale the breath I didn't even know I was holding in. For the first time in months I felt what I could only term as familiarity and comfort. I glance towards her companion in tow. A tall broad-chested man with dark hair and dark blue eyes. Instant recognition hits. Christ his son was a spitting image of him. I glance at Reid then back at him confirming only what I already know.

"Well I guess you must be Riveka sr." I say as I walk up to him and stretch out my hand for a handshake. He takes it without hesitation, his handshake firm and meant to intimidate. "And I don't have to guess who you are at all, seeing that we've had our eyes on you for the better part of the year." he says.

"Nice bonding moment that we have but how do the two of you know each other?" Ameira interrupts. I glance once more at Telly who proceeds to explain. "Well I knew her for quite some time considering she's one of the most powerful mages of this time. She knows me as well, she just can't remember everything yet. So when she walked into my tattoo parlor at the beginning of the year, I knew something was off. So I recommended that she settle down here, where I knew she wouldn't be tracked down for some time. Then I notified Meridian. And we've been keeping an eye on her since." she finishes and a couple of glances are exchanged around the room, followed by a couple of nods.

Reid remains rigid a few feet apart from me. It's like he can't believe his ears. Did you know it was her? he asks into my mind, his tone rather curious and relaxed. Whether he was actually relaxed and not agitated I couldn't tell. Did I know that the all powerful arcanist you're all terrified of was my friend and tattoo artist? No I didn't. Need I remind you I also don't have a chunk of my memories? He physically relaxes after I answer him, folding his arms and his feet go apart a little.

And just for the record. She doesn't terrify me. He adds. Right, she just annoys and intimidates you because you can't channel her power. I shoot at him. A chuckle threatens to escape my lips but I manage to keep it together as the discussion begins.

"You're welcome at Meridian. Training facilities, food, your own private bunker, everything. And we can work on getting your memories." Reid's dad starts. Its a good deal honestly. But there were no such thing as good deals in the magic world. "What's in it for you guys?" My tone is sharp and inquisitive. I barely needed to use that tone in the last nine months. But then again I wasn't on constant alert. I was a normal human for the most of it.

"You'd be our inside man." Telly says.

"Why?"

"Well we can't tell you why now seeing as you don't have your full memory and it's also kinda classified and we're in a room full of agents who don't have clearance to that information." Riveka sr. drones and moves to settle himself in my armchair by the corner of the room.

"I'd like to talk to Telly privately." I say and all eyes land on me, again. How terrified could they really be of this lady?
