Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Pro-war

I sat on the chair as the nurse took the bandage off my head.

"Alright, your forehead must have fully healed by now. We're gonna discharge you know from the hospital." The nurse said.

"Yes sir and thank you."

"It's no problem. Just be careful not to hit your head." He replied.

I nodded and got off of my chair and walked out of the nurse room.

When I came out of the door, I saw Gideon leaning against the wall.

"We're finally got discharged from the hospital, I was just starting to miss my mom." Said Gideon.

"Will your mom be waiting outside?"

"Nah, She's a pretty busy person. What makes you think she never visited me?"

"I thought she was pretty cruel women who didn't care about her child."

"Heh, can't blame you."

We walked down the hallway, passing by patients and doctors until we got to the front door.

When I opened door.

The shining sun flashed my vision for a second.

But as it gradually went back to normal.

I could see both Tomas and Wesley waiting outside.

They waved their hands and I waved back.

Me and Gideon ran up to them.

"Can't believe you two are still alive. I thought you two were dead." Wesley sneered.

Tomas looked at Wesley with a deathly glare.

Telling him that if he said that again.

He would tear him apart.

I cleared my throat.

"Oh? Sorry, I was just warning him." Tomas said.

"Its ok. Just..." I slowly gave a glare at Wesley.

"Don't do it again."

He wheezed.

"Who do you think you are?" He continued wheezing and laughing.

I sighed before looking back at Tomas.

"What's been happening while we were away for some time." We walked together as I talked.

"Oh just the usual. First the initial shock of the Grand Dukes death then his funeral and everyone giving him flowers and things. And then the protest came."

"Protest?" I said.

"Yeah, lots of people and I mean LOTS of people rallied up the streets to protest." Tomas said.

"Why?"

"They were mad at the Grand Dukes death and blamed Varian. So the people were protesting to declare war." said Wesley.

"Oof. I wonder how it's going right now."

"You wanna see? A protest going on right now at the streets. Follow me." Wesley soon ran off and Me and the other two followed pursuit.

"Why are we running again! We always run!" Gideon yelled.

"Your problem not mine." I replied.

"I'll kill you!" I picked up my pace and his voice gradually went down as he cursed me.

I stood at the alleyway as I watched a large horde carrying signs saying to declare war.

"Declare war! Declare war! Declare war!" Everyone synced in to yell.

Their march rang out through the entire streets.

Their yells and demands were heard everywhere around the town.

And their signs screamed louder than themself.

"Looks horrible." Said Gideon.

"That's not the worst part. I heard rumors that the government was actually thinking of doing it. But the church is trying to stop it." Said Tomas.

"Huh...The church." I whispered to myself.

Could the church even do anything about it?

How much power do they have anyways.

I mean those church members did seemed like they had higher authority.

"Anything else I should know about?"

"Oh yeah. The protesters once were beating up Varians that were living here." Said Welsey.

"Gosh...poor guys. They were not at fault in the first place." Said Gideon.

It was certainly true.

It was easier to blame the whole group rather than the specific people.

"I...want to go home now. This is..." Gideon breathe fastened.

Wesley realized what was happening to Gideon and came over to him.

"Hey you ok? Come on guys. We should really go. There is nothing to talk about right now." Said Wesley.

I soon nodded in agreement before leaving the alleyway.

We were following the streets until we got to the crossroad.

The left was were my home was.

And the right was where it lead deeper into the city where the three of them lived.

"I should go home. I hope you take care of yourself." I said and waved.

Tomas waved back but Gideon was still in distress whilst Wesley comforted him.

Before finally turning left and went home.

As I walked down the dirt road.

All I could think about was...

Were they really gonna declare war?

How could they? I bet they don't have the balls.

I do hope so.

Because if they did, there was a chance me and my friends could join.

But of course won't!

We would never.

Unless...we got drafted.

I shook my head violently, trying to stop thinking about it.

I wonder how was mom doing.

I looked back up as I drew closer to my home village.

I bolted up the hill and ran home.

"Yo! Lukas!"

I heard a girls voice coming from behind me.

I looked back to see it was Amelia.

"Oh...Amelia nice to meet you aga-"

But then she immediately punched my shoulder.

"Ow! What was that for!?" I yelled.

"That was for giving me all the responsibility with farming."

"I was at the hospital goddammit!"

"No excuses sir! I want you pay back."

"Amelia, please leave Lukas alone. He had enough and the fact that he was injured makes it worse." Said Claudia.

"I'm so sorry for what Amelia is doing to you. Just go home and rest. And Amelia if you do that again I will SENT YOU BACK TO THE FARM!"

"Ah!" She jumped before she ran off.

I scoffed before turning back and headed home.
