"Have you lost your mind?"
The words ripped out of me before I could hold them back.
Joe didn't answer. He didn't even flinch. He simply turned his back to me and walked to the window, his broad shoulders shifting like living stone, sweat glistening on his skin under the faint lantern light. He looked less like a man and more like a statue carved from ice, impenetrable, unmovable and untouchable.
The silence between us burned hotter than any scream.
I stepped forward, my anger breaking through the fear twisting in my chest. "You just ordered your beta to sleep with your wife. To tape it. To… to humiliate her, to humiliate you! Do you even hear yourself?!"
Still, he kept quiet
My voice rose, sharper and desperate. "Joe, this isn't a strategy. This is madness! You're gambling with people's lives. With Xavier's loyalty. With…"
His head turned slightly, just enough for me to see the blade-sharp edge in his eyes.
