Chapter 224. Evil HERO New Cards Explained! Searching "Super Polymerization" to Break Boards and Shock the Old Guard!
After hearing the whole story of Cyber-Stein's return to the list for a second run, everyone assumed that on its second charge it must have caused some huge uproar to get Forbidden.
But no one expected this!
It got Forbidden that casually!
Or rather—
Cyber-Stein being Forbidden for a handful of reasons…
Left the old guard across every world unable to accept it for a while.
Most Forbidden cards are there because their power is off the charts or they're so generically useful that they make the meta rancid.
But Cyber-Stein—
In the end, when it was Forbidden—
Didn't seem especially strong.
Nor would it really make the meta that toxic!
Which forced everyone to rethink things.
As the group chat kept turning it over and debating, messages piled up.
Joey Wheeler: "So it just gets Forbidden like that? Isn't that a bit too hasty?"
Akiza Izinski: "It's not hasty, actually. This card only gets stronger over time. Banning it as a precaution makes sense."
Jaden Yuki: "True. But it even lived into the Tearlaments era—I think that's long enough!"
Yusaku Fujiki: "It spanned a long time. Hopefully it can come back on a future List. Kind of a pity."
As the discussion went on, the initial disgust
Was gradually replaced by regret.
Not only because this card brought a historically transformative way to perform Fusion Summons,
But more importantly—
Without this one card,
A lot of fun, casual decks just lost another set of toys.
Even so, they could understand.
Cyber-Stein could bring out far too many Fusion Monsters.
You can't just limit other Fusion Monsters
And keep letting players run three copies of Cyber-Stein indefinitely, right?
By comparison,
K-Snake simply made Cyber-Stein disappear.
It's not the worst way to deal with a ticking time bomb.
Rather than let it explode in the future,
Snuffing it in the cradle is pretty normal.
GX world.
Even after finishing up in the group chat, Jaden Yuki couldn't help feeling a little helpless.
This one Cyber-Stein
Had put so many interesting Fusion bosses on stage.
Some Fusion Monsters,
Because their summoning conditions didn't mesh with their decks,
Had long sunk into the sea of card pools.
But with Cyber-Stein,
Those sunken cards could shine again.
That's the potential Jaden saw in it.
"What a shame. Wouldn't putting it to 1 have been fine?"
"They just had to clamp it down!"
"Kinda hurts!"
Jaden Yuki sighed and muttered to himself.
When his eyes returned to the short video,
The next clip had already appeared.
The title:
"Massive Buffs for Evil HERO! Is Searching 'Super Polymerization' Now Possible?"
Seeing that title,
Jaden froze.
This "Evil HERO" is…?
Hold it—
Looks like it's him! Supreme King Jaden!!!
With that thought,
Jaden, who had been lamenting Cyber-Stein, immediately recalled the old Evil HERO cards.
[Evil HERO Malicious Edge]!
[Evil HERO Infernal Prodigy]!
[Evil HERO Adusted Gold]!
Once his memory snapped back into place,
Jaden already had a sense of Evil HERO's overall strength.
As for Duelists from other worlds who didn't really know Evil HERO,
They zeroed in on the words "Super Polymerization" in the title.
They might not know how strong Evil HERO is,
But they absolutely know how strong Super Polymerization is.
It can't be chained to, and it can use the opponent's monsters for the Fusion.
An invincible card like that—can it really be searched?!
Just what kind of archetype is Evil HERO?
As Duelists in every world wondered,
The Evil HERO deck breakdown had already begun in the clip.
Evil HERO Player: "So satisfying! So satisfying!"
Evil HERO Player: "Just a few days ago, Evil HERO got a massive wave of support!"
Evil HERO Player: "That gave the frail and tattered Evil HERO archetype a strong competitive boost!"
"First, a quick primer on Evil HERO."
"Simply put, many cards in the theme are Elemental HERO that have fallen to darkness."
"And pure Evil HERO, by itself, has been very weak."
"The only thing you can realistically splash"
"Is the archetypal ace Evil HERO Fusion—[Evil HERO Malicious Bane]."
"The materials are an Evil HERO monster + any Level 5 or higher monster."
"It has battle/effect destruction protection."
"During your Main Phase, you can destroy all your opponent's monsters with ATK less than or equal to this card's, and this card then gains 200 ATK for each monster destroyed."
"After you activate that effect this turn, only 'HERO' monsters can declare attacks."
"Even with such an Evil HERO ace—"
"It still isn't quite strong enough."
"Hence Evil HERO stayed obscure."
"But now, with these buffs, things are different."
"At last, pure Evil HERO can actually operate and show a glimpse of modern Yu-Gi-Oh!"
Hearing the creator's excited spiel,
Duelists from every world were stunned.
What the heck?
Malicious Bane
Isn't strong enough?
But when they looked at what "pure Evil HERO" used to look like,
The old-guard Duelists fell silent again.
Indeed.
Rather than "Evil HERO,"
It was basically a HERO-goodstuff shell
With a small Evil HERO package slotted in.
That way you'd at least feel
You were playing Evil HERO.
Now the Duelists were thoroughly hooked.
They had to see
What exactly these Evil HERO support cards were.
Evil HERO Player: "Next is our new-card breakdown."
Evil HERO Player: "This wave touched almost every axis."
Evil HERO Player: "But it's also that toothpaste-squeeze kind of incremental buff."
"Even though I'm hyped for Evil HERO support, I know—"
"With buffs like this, pure Evil HERO just gets smoother, nothing more."
"Card #1: [Evil HERO Toxic Bubble]."
"Fiend / WATER / Level 4."
"ATK/DEF 800/1200."
"Each of its 'self Special Summon' and its second effect can be used only once per turn."
"① It can Special Summon itself directly; self-restriction: after that, you can only Special Summon 'HERO' monsters."
"② If it's Special Summoned and you control a monster that must be Special Summoned with 'Dark Fusion,' draw 2 cards."
"Our in-house Evil HERO 'Pot of Greed.'"
"The key is that it can Special Summon itself; being WATER is also a plus."
"As for the 'draw 2,' I think running 1–2 is fine."
"Card #2: [Evil HERO Death Prism]."
"Rock / LIGHT / Level 4."
"ATK/DEF 1700/1100."
"Each of its 'self Special Summon' and second effect can be used only once per turn."
"① If you control a Fusion Monster that must be Special Summoned with 'Dark Fusion,' this can Special Summon itself from the hand."
"② Send 1 'HERO' monster from your Deck to the GY; this face-up card can be used as a substitute for 1 Fusion Material whose name is mentioned on a 'HERO' Fusion Monster you Fusion Summon this turn (the other materials can't be substituted)."
"How to put it…"
"Compared to Elemental HERO Prisma, its material coverage is broader—no longer a specific name."
"It also gains a way to Special Summon itself."
"Being a Rock might be to enable Gaia lines."
"Run 2–3."
"Card #3: [Evil HERO Infernal Rider]."
"Fiend / WIND / Level 6."
"ATK/DEF 2100/800."
"Each of its [1] and [2] effects can be used once per turn."
"[1] If it is Normal or Special Summoned: add 'Dark Fusion' from your Deck or GY to your hand."
"[2] Banish this card and 3 other monsters from your GY; Set 1 'Super Polymerization' from your Deck."
"This card's value is maxed—no further commentary needed."
"Double searching."
"For Evil HERO as a theme—and honestly, I think you can even splash this outside."
"It's just a monster in its text; nothing says it has to be a 'HERO' monster."
"I believe this will shine in many places going forward."
"And being able to search 'Super Polymerization'"
"Isn't just talk."
"Most importantly, HERO already has lots of splashable modules."
"For example, the [Fusion Destiny] + [Destiny HERO — Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer] package."
"The issue is being Level 6—multiple copies can be clunky. Run 1–2."
Stunned.
Totally stunned.
These Evil HERO cards,
Compared to earlier Evil HERO options,
Are a complete, dimension-reducing power jump.
Especially this Infernal Rider Evil HERO monster,
Which directly tutors the theme's key Fusion cards.
More importantly,
Super Polymerization.
Yes.
Seeing that you can truly search Super Poly,
And that it doesn't even say you must banish only HERO monsters,
Everyone immediately realized how valuable this card is.
Duel Monsters world.
After hearing these few cards,
Yugi Muto immediately compared them to his current Dark Magician support.
He instantly realized this set isn't weak at all.
You've got milling; you've got searching,
And that search goes straight to Super Polymerization.
In deckbuilding terms, that means 1–2 copies of Super Poly are enough.
Drawing it isn't bad,
And if you don't see it, you can fetch it.
If you can reliably search Super Poly going first and Set it,
That's pure, clean disruption for your opponent.
GX world.
Jaden Yuki was dumbfounded after watching.
Aster Phoenix also looked shocked and at a loss.
Is this the power of Evil HERO?
Is this
What other HERO branches are getting as buffs?
It's completely different from what they imagined.
Pair it with [Elemental HERO Stratos]
And other single-card HERO power pieces,
And HERO's operations
Seem to have gained yet another line of play.
"Mamma mia!"
"What kind of dumb luck does Jaden Yuki have?"
"First, Kaiba's Blue-Eyes gets buffs!"
"Now HERO gets buffs again!"
"When is my Ancient Gear Golem getting some love?!"
Professor Vellian Crowler looked at the clip with envy and jealousy.
Jaden had just been saying HERO had no buffs,
And now?
The higher world had it arranged right away.
Evil HERO Player: "Next up is the Fusion side of the support."
Evil HERO Player: "Three new Fusions this time."
Evil HERO Player: "But they're not 'break the heavens and earth' power."
"Fusion #1: [Evil HERO Neos Lord]."
"Fiend / DARK / Level 10."
"ATK/DEF 2500/2000."
"Materials: 'Elemental HERO Neos' or a Fusion that mentions it + 1 Effect Monster (on the field)."
"① once per turn."
"① If this card is Special Summoned, or while it's on the field a monster is sent to your opponent's GY: target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; take control of it."
"② It cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects."
"How to say it…"
"The first effect is a Brain-Control-style steal; on Special Summon, it already takes something."
"Not bad as a board-breaker."
"But it looks like it targets, which isn't ideal."
"And going first, summoning this means you 'waste' the steal—so it's a going-second breaker."
"Fusion #2: [Evil HERO Inferno Wing — Backfire]."
"Fiend / FIRE / Level 6."
"ATK/DEF 2100/1200."
"Materials: 'Elemental HERO Avian' or 'Elemental HERO Burstinatrix' + 1 'HERO' monster."
"Each of its two effects is once per turn."
"① If this card is Special Summoned: add to your hand 1 non-Fusion card that mentions 'Dark Fusion,' or add 'Dark Fusion' itself, from your Deck or GY."
"② If your 'HERO' monster destroys an opponent's monster by battle: inflict 2100 damage to your opponent."
"For this card, the key is still the search in effect ①."
"It's a springboard—after you Fuse it out, it feeds other lines."
"Fusion #3: [Evil HERO Darkest Knight]."
"Fiend / EARTH / Level 8."
"ATK/DEF 1600/0."
"Materials: 1 Fiend + 1 Warrior."
"① Your opponent's monsters lose ATK equal to the total original ATK of the materials used to Fusion Summon this card."
"② It can make a second attack during each Battle Phase."
"③ If this face-up Special Summoned card you control leaves the field by an opponent's effect: Special Summon 1 Fiend or Warrior from your GY."
"You can tell this is more of a splash piece."
"But you still basically need 'Dark Fusion' to bring it out."
"As for its effect—it's basically a reckless board-buster."
Indeed.
Looking at the three Fusions alone,
The only one that could be your "boss"
Happens to be a going-second breaker that's awkward going first.
In fact,
Given how tight the Extra Deck is,
[Evil HERO Neos Lord] might not even make the cut.
But including a single copy still seems necessary.
As for [Evil HERO Darkest Knight]—
A dude that just solves boards by swinging twice,
A measly 1600 ATK isn't exactly inspiring.
Viewed this way,
Among these Fusions,
[Evil HERO Darkest Knight] feels like the filler.
That left old-guard Duelists across every world pulling complicated faces.
So Evil HERO's real upgrades
Still focus on the Main Deck monsters.
Evil HERO Player: "For Spells, there's [Dark Contact]."
Evil HERO Player: "Pick 1 of 2 effects, and you can use each once per turn."
"① From the field/GY/banished, shuffle materials back into the Deck to Fusion Summon a monster that must be Special Summoned with 'Dark Fusion' (treated as a 'Dark Fusion' Summon)."
"② From your Deck, add 'Supreme King's Castle' or 'Dark Fusion' to your hand."
"How to say it?"
"If effect ② could add both cards,"
"Turning 1 into 2, my rating would be 'broken.'"
"And effect ① is not bad—it even works from the banished pile."
"Recovery is maxed out."
"But my rating is: Tearlaments still reigns."
"Spell #2 is [Evil Assault]."
"Each of its two effects is once per turn."
"① Discard 1 card; add to your hand or Special Summon from the Deck a Level 4 or lower 'Evil HERO' monster."
"After activation, until the end of the turn you can only Special Summon 'HERO' monsters from the Extra Deck."
"② As a delayed effect, banish this card from your GY (not the turn it was sent there) to add 'Dark Fusion' from your GY to your hand."
"Trap #3 is [Dark Supremacy]."
"Each of its two effects is once per turn."
"① Target up to the number of face-up cards your opponent controls equal to the number of 'Dark Fusion' and cards that mention it in your GY; negate those targets' effects until the end of the turn."
"② As a delayed effect, banish this card from your GY (not the turn it was sent there), then shuffle up to 5 'HERO' monsters from your GY and/or banished back into the Deck."
By contrast, in the Spell/Trap department,
These three pieces are far more sincere than the Fusions.
The best part is,
All of them can be searched by [Evil HERO Inferno Wing — Backfire].
In an instant,
Evil HERO's combos were already starting to take shape…
