Simon Forrester placed Sienna Thornton onto the bed, took off her shoes, covered her with a quilt, then went to the bathroom to fetch an empty basin and placed it by the bedside. He also brought the tissue box from the vanity table to the bed stand, and then poured a glass of warm water and set it aside.
Having done all this, just as he was about to leave, the small woman lying on the bed suddenly started to cry, "Woo woo."
He gently patted her shoulder, drew a tissue, and wiped the tears from her eyes, but the tears were like broken pearls, never-ending. Resolutely, he went and locked the room door.
When he returned, Sienna was still crying with her eyes closed, so he sat by the bed, gently embraced her, kissed her hair, and comforted her softly, "I'm here, you can sleep."
As expected, there was a knock on the door. He gently kissed Sienna's forehead, covered her properly with the quilt, and went out.
Maeve stood waiting outside, using a look that only he understood.
