The 'Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor', Spiritual Pivot chapter on Stimulating Evil Pathogens, says: "When the virtual evil penetrates deeply into the body, and cold and heat clash, staying inside for long periods, if cold overcomes heat, it causes bone pain and withering muscles; if heat overcomes cold, it rots muscles and turns them into pus, injuring the bone internally, and this internal injury leads to bone erosion."
This means virtual evil invades deep into the body, where cold and heat clash and stay for a long time without leaving. If cold overcomes heat, it results in bone pain and muscle withering; if heat overcomes cold, muscles rot into pus, causing internal bone injury, which develops into bone erosion.
