These past few days have felt endless, like we're walking through mud that just won't let our feet go. Ever since the flood destroyed our house, every new morning comes with another reminder of how much we've lost… and how much we still have to rebuild.
Right now, we're trying to start the actual reconstruction. You'd think that after a disaster, people would be a bit more understanding but reality really doesn't care about our expectations.
The workers and contractors in our area know how desperate everyone is to rebuild. So instead of helping, many of them are demanding huge amounts of money upfront. Some even say it openly:
"If you can't pay, there are plenty of other families who will."
That's the situation we're stuck in.Not because the work is special… not because the materials suddenly became gold… but simply because they know people have no choice.
My father and brothers have reached the point where they're saying,"We won't spend more than necessary. We'll do most of the work ourselves."
And honestly? I don't blame them.
We don't need extra labour for lifting bricks or mixing cement — my family can handle that part. The only thing we absolutely must pay for is the skilled work, like the person who actually builds the structure. But even then, the prices are climbing higher every day.
It's exhausting watching them try to stretch every rupee, trying to keep the cost under control when the people we rely on only raise the demands even more. And at the same time, we can't stop — rebuilding the house isn't a choice. It's survival.
That's why every bit of support matters so much right now.
