Chapter 42: One Shot
At the restaurant—
[A few minutes ago]
Sera was busy packing the last of the boxes, humming softly, anything to drown her worry about James, Leo, and Lily. The quiet clatter of dishes was the only sound that filled the room—
Until the front door exploded open.
The lock shattered, and so did her calm with it.
Her breath hitched as the sharp scent of splintered wood filled the air. Slowly, she peeked out from the kitchen—and what she saw made her blood run cold.
Zerek.
He stood at the entrance with three men, arrogance dripping from his smirk as his eyes scanned the room like a vulture over a carcass.
"She must be here somewhere," Zerek drawled, his voice smooth… and venomous. "Bring her to me."
Sera's trembling hand darted toward a kitchen knife.
The faint glint of steel caught Zerek's eye; his grin widened, cruel and amused.
