Chapter 5 - A Series of Tragic Events (1)

I left the last of those thoughts behind as I made my way back to my apartment since I completed the quest. Talking with Celeste Flux wasn't bad in the slightest, it was actually kind of nice.

But it did feel great to be back at home with some peace and quiet. Sitting back on my couch with my feet up once again.

If my life was a story... Man would people be bored as hell. I couldn't imagine following me on my day to day routines, even I get bored just thinking about it.

The heroes outside of my life are a lot more interesting than what I have going on.

Click. "Today we are here to cover the latest tragedy that has come to our attention. The death of a hero by the name of Astal has died in the line of duty today. Ranked at #2 on the hero rankings by the commission and #1 on the popularity charts. We mourn his death today." The woman says on the TV.

I'm sure other heroes died that didn't get any coverage like this but it probably doesn't matter. Only the big heroes get this kind of attention after dying, I do think it sucks but this is just irritating.

If it was someone lower on the rankings they wouldn't be covered since there is nothing to gain from it.

Astal was a pretty big hero too. Though, I don't know a thing about his powers or what he does. Just going based off of what she said about his rankings on both charts.

Popularity was high and he was a powerful hero according to the commission. That means a powerful villain is out there, one that was strong enough to kill a hero like him.

Not like it'll ever be a problem for me to deal with. I'm not a hero and I have no intention of ever being one.

Knock. Knock. The sound of someone knocking on my door immediately took me out of my thoughts. "Coming!" I shout while standing up from the couch.

I walk over to the door and open it up to see my parents are there, along with my brother as well.

"Uh, what's the occasion?" I question with a bit of confusion in my voice.

"Can we not stop in to see our other son once in awhile?" Dad responds with a bit of anger in his voice.

"Uh... Sure, come in." I say before moving out of the way.

My family never usually comes to visit me so this was kind of unexpected for me to see them like this. Especially my brother, he didn't change in the slightest.

He still has that long hair that goes past his shoulders, covers his eyes, and yet he is the successful one. He was wearing a nice suit though.

Mom and Dad looked about how I expected them to look. I get my looks from dad mostly so we look pretty similar except he looks older of course.

His eyes are also blue and actually... They are all dressed up pretty nicely.

I stood back for a moment as they got comfy on my couch. "So what's this really about?" I ask with a casual tone.

"We just wanted to make sure you're doing well." Mom answers before anyone else can.

~Is it wrong for your family to stop by? (・o・).

They just don't stop by usually so this is kind of unlike them. I'm considered the disappointment of the family... I never usually hear from them.

That's exactly why it doesn't make any sense to me for them to be here all of a sudden.

~I guess family can always surprise you. ^^.

Sure, we'll go with that for the time being. Something about this whole thing just feels wrong, like this shouldn't be happening right now.

I walk over and take a seat on one of my chairs while the TV continues to talk about the tragedy from before. Talking about how it happened and blah blah blah.

My family kind of just talked amongst themselves while I sat there silently.

They could've just stayed home if they weren't even going to acknowledge me in the slightest. No one has asked me anything about what's going on with me or how work is.

This is exactly why I didn't care for them dropping by all of a sudden. It made no sense in the first place.

I scratch my head and lean back in my chair while staring at the TV. My attention was completely on the TV until I realized that a bright light was coming towards the window from outside.

~I'd advise you use lucky step now. \(°o°)/.

What is that? Yeah, yeah. Use it!

[Lucky Step Activated]

Without realizing it I felt myself move instinctively as if my body knew what to avoid. CRASH!!!!!! BOOOOM!!!!!

I just barely managed to dodge whatever came crashing into my apartment but an explosion wasn't far behind. It came from below us, not even from my apartment.

I could see a giant hole in my apartment from whatever this thing was since I didn't get a chance to look at it.

Wait... I could dodge something like that but what about...

Without wasting any time I look towards where my family was sitting and I can only see my brother on the ground, he was just barely breathing.

The lower halfs of my parents bodies were all that remain after that thing impacted my apartment...

Blood painted my floors and the walls and I took another look to see that it went completely through the building. This whole apartment building was damaged and multiple people probably died in the process.

Surely a hero is on the way to help... My parents aren't dead either. No, this is actually just a dream... No... A nightmare.

~Saito, this isn't the time to breakdown. The person who caused this is nearby. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻.

What the hell do you think I can do about that?
