The moment Theo stepped forward, Cain's hand dropped and the room exploded.
The first wolf lunged without warning, and Theo caught sight of just a blur of grey muscle and snapping jaws aimed straight for her throat. She ducked on instinct, its claws tearing free as she rolled beneath him.
She felt fur ripping under her fingers as she slashed upward, the force of it jolting her arm to the bone. The wolf yelped, crashing into a pillar behind her with a sickening crack, but there was no time to register it as two more came for her at once.
One from the left, and the other from behind.
She spun and had just barely blocked the first with her forearm when teeth sank into her flesh. Pain flared up her body as she screamed through clenched teeth, quickly driving her knee up into his chest. He flew back, but the second wolf's weight slammed into her spine half a second later, sending her skidding across the polished stone floor.
