Athena's breath caught again when Eryx's forehead rested against her chest, his hands tightening at her waist like he needed her to stay anchored there. His body was trembling not just from pain, but something deeper, something wild and burning underneath his skin.
She could feel it.
His breathing warm against her through her shirt.
His chest rising too quickly beneath her palms.
The way his hands moved down, dugging lightly into her hips like he was fighting himself.
God...is this guy planning to murder her?
"Eryx…" she whispered, not even sure what she was asking.
He didn't answer.
Instead, he lifted his head. His heavy, unfocused gaze met hers. And God, there was something in his eyes that made her stomach drop, raw, desperate, aching.
His voice was a gravelly whisper.
