"Did you come here to tell me that?" Athena asked, trying so hard to keep her voice neutral.
To pretend her heart wasn't doing full-speed somersaults in her chest.
Azrael's eyes flicked up with amusement.
"No…" he murmured, stepping closer.
"Actually, I came here before you plan to destroy me with your…"
His gaze swept over her hair, her face, the faint pink on her cheeks.
"…morning innocence."
Athena froze.
Oh…okay…that was…that was illegal. That was unfair. That was heart-stopping.
Her stomach flipped. She could feel all her intestines running around her abdomen. Heat shot straight to her chest and neck.
She took a tiny step back without meaning to and Azrael noticed. Of course he noticed every little thing she does
His eyes dropped to her lips again…slowly, the way someone admires something they shouldn't touch but very much want to.
Then, as if his gaze had its own path, his eyes drifted down the length of her body… and back up.
Athena swallowed hard.
