Josh grabbed Lawrence by the arm, dragging him out despite his thrashing and insults. Lawrence's indignant screams echoed down the hallway, growing fainter and fainter until the room finally settled into a tense, stunned silence.
"If the gate wasn't forced open....combined with your scent leaking out then no gate would have appeared at all," Edwards said gravely, his tone carrying seriousness that made the room fall silent. "Esper Louise has many guides who would literally die to have him. I wouldn't even be surprised if one of those obsessive idiots thought doing this would give them a chance. Someone clearly used your vulnerability as the final trigger."
