Hades watched as Layla moved before anyone could stop her.
The girl who had been shaking only moments ago suddenly seemed to snap, horror burning away her hesitation and replacing it with something raw and reckless. She shoved Ratnik aside with both hands, the force of it surprising even herself, and wrenched the gun from her mentor's grasp. Her fingers trembled, fear still haunting her, but not enough to stop her.
Without thinking, without waiting, Layla raised the weapon and aimed straight at Hades's head.
For a fleeting second, Hades almost commend the action. That fragile, desperate courage humans sometimes mistook for resolve. It appears that compared to the rest of the humans, this girl still had basic decency which the rest of the hunters had long forgo to make sure they could survive against faes.
He smiled and before her finger could tighten around the trigger, Hades moved his hand, shoving the same hand that was holding to Daniel's neck.
