"What do you mean, was he not here?" I asked, confused. Kai is pacing around panicking and the salesman looks a little worried? I'm guessing he either bet on him or is scared that he is dead already. Either that or he just really cares about Dove, which is kind of sweet and surprising at the same time—maybe a blend of both.
But right now our pain focus is to find Dove but I bet he probably just ran away to the next level or something on accident. I decide to walk around because I didn't get a chance and slowly try to slip away from the panic. And I am sure it's a good idea because looking around, I am seeing things I never saw!
Opening a door, I see the garden, which is surprisingly in color! In fact, looking back, it's in color too. Everything is in color. How did this happen? I notice a black substance dripping from my eyes and I hear a scream as I am dragged back, black stuff still coming out from my eyes.
"OH MY GOD, ARE YOU OKAY?" Kai is yelling but I feel no pain. The salesman is running around freaking out, yelling in a high pitch that does not even sound human. "Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?" I say calmly and slowly.
"YOU'RE LEAKING FLUIDS FROM YOUR EYES AND YOU WENT OUTSIDE!" Kai said, freaking out.
"What's wrong with that?"
"Oh my God, I told that guy I should've told you." He sighed, still sweating bullets. My vision is a bit blurry but it's not that bad.
"Okay so you see there is a 'sun' on this level. Basically this 'sun' provides all life in the backrooms. And this level is the closest to it and to witness it firsthand, you would go outside, which is known for instantly killing people. You're dead; it just happened so fast your body is still moving." He is starting to cry and I'm starting to panic.
"WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?" Am I really going to die just because I went outside?
I think of the things I didn't get to do yet, like at least manage to last to the end. I am so scared right now but the liquids still don't hurt. I have decided that if I am to die, I should at least know something. "What is this sun like?" I ask slowly just in case talking decreases my lifespan.
"It's said a high-ranking angel provides life to this realm of reality. Its name is unknown but seeing it in its glory will make anybody die." I nod.
"Okay, so um, when do you think I'm going to die? I hope that I don't die too soon because I really want to win this race," I say slowly, looking up in the sky, my hands on my chest. I still feel no pain.
"ARE YOU IN DENIAL? YOU'RE GOING TO DIE. THAT'S IT. YOU WILL DIE." Kai put his head on his knees, weeping. "Well…. As a last act of kindness, can you at least describe what you saw before you die?" He said silently. He really wants my last words and breath to benefit him?
"Are you fucking sick? If I really am dying, you're asking me to use my last words just to benefit you." I say silently, not even daring to look at him, who probably stopped crying by now. "Well, you can do something useful. It's not like if you said your last words you have anybody to send it to, just a thousand disappointed betters who only like you because they think you'll win." He said coldly. That bitch was nervous but not now because he thinks I'll die.
"You really are a bitch, aren't you…" I said slowly.
"Look, it's just for my survival so I can win the race. You'd understand if in some alternate universe the roles were swapped." He argues back. But I realized that I could still see normally. All of this arguing made me think I was going to die but I was completely fine and I guess Kai noticed that too.
"Hey… Your eyes are not leaking out." He says slowly. I get up and look around and notice something. I can see in complete color. Once I stand up, Kai is on the ground shaking in terror. "HOW DID YOU SURVIVE?" He asks yelling very terrified and looks like he is going to pass out.
I shove past him, annoyed because he wants to act like the victim as if he was not trying to use my death as his benefit I walk over to the salesman who stops panicking and looks at me in shock.
"H...How?" he says slowly to me. "I don't know; I guess I'm very, very lucky today." I say silently, looking down. He grabs me by my shoulders. "Tell me, what can you see?" He asks.
"I can see color."
"That's it?"
"I also know you'll say 'anything else.'"
"Anything else?"
…
"I guess your eyes are advanced." He said,
"Yeah, just as when you were made, every time you ate somebody, you became even more powerful.
"Huh?"
"I can tell; seeing you again, something tells me about this. I know that Dove has been kidnapped by the backrooms king and is being tortured at this moment."
Everybody looks at me shockingly. I even feel a bit shocked myself after that, after I just casually know where everything is. It's like I know everything through these eyes. "WE MUST GO THEN!" Kai yells and I see my horse, who is lying in the front yard, which isn't dangerous at all and I wake him up. And head to the next level.
