"You cannot proceed with the wedding."
The words made Lin Rui freeze for a second, wondering where Lian Zhi was going with this suggestion.
"There will be a coup at the ceremony," she continued, "The Chancellor is the one behind it. The wedding is just a distraction to get everyone in one place without their weapons."
Lin Rui's head snapped involuntarily to face her, too quickly. Behind his mask, his eyes widened. He stared at her with a racing mind.
"How," he asked, "do you know this?"
He watched her closely and saw her hesitating. Her fingers twisted nervously in the silk of her robes, and he could see the frantic pulse beating in her throat. She was terrified, but she didn't back down.
"Because," she said, her voice shaking but growing stronger with every word, "I wasn't meant to survive it."
The words hit him so hard that they made him stop breathing for a second. To say he was surprised was an understatement. He was horrified.
